If Donovan McNabb is going to be traded, he allegedly hopes that his destination is the Minnesota Vikings. (Really, who can blame him?) This brings up a bit of a situation. . .one that I'll be addressing this evening after I get home from work.

I'm all for it....

trade for a 2nd rounder, get it done chilly.

What a line-up at QB...

Favre, McNabb, and Jackson!

I BELIEVE...

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Mar 26, 2010 11:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Hate to say it

Jackson wouldn’t want to be 3rd string even for one year and wouldn’t hang around to be a career back-up either.

yeah...

‘cuz he’s generating such a market buzz for his skills…

I BELIEVE...

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Mar 26, 2010 12:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, he could always have a chance to start in Oakland. lol BUt that’s what I was trying to say. Most know he wont or isnt a starting QB but he thinks he is. Hence why I say he wont want to stay, but as you said, look at all those team’s lining up to get him…………..oh wow, there goes a tumbleweed……….

True

But he’s had his time to decide. :)

but

do you want brett or mcnabb??

by J.A. Aka The Mullet on Mar 26, 2010 4:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Brett

I do think he is better than McNabb.
1) He knows the offense, players, coaches, etc

HOWEVER, Picking up McNabb would be a good move for the Future without Favre. We could use him for WildCat plays and such. My dream would be to have both Favre AND McNabb.

Who really knows how Favre will react if we get McNabb? Though I am sure Chilly could spin it to keep Favre here.

Wow.

You have a HELL of a lot more confidence in Chilly than I do.

I was beginning to speculate that you were tired from speculating all the speculation on what McNabb is speculating where he would like to go.

I speculate that you might be right,

except that I speculate that I am not sure on your speculations of my speculations as they relate to all the speculations here in general. Speculatively speaking of course.

I truly have that brain-ache now.

hmmm

Take Tebow in the first, trade a second for McNabb and we are set at QB

by ajmargarine on Mar 26, 2010 11:53 AM CDT reply actions

all of this

“Tebow in the first” talk makes me a saaad panda.

What a wasted pick it would be. I hope, like they are saying, that someone in the top 15 is going to take a chance on him, because I don’t want the Vikes to even think about using the 30th pick on him.

He was wildly successful in college as a “System Quarterback” where system QB’s CONSTANTLY have major success (Colt Brennan… Graham Harrell… Timmy Chang… Chris Leak… Troy Smith… the list goes on and on). To be a successful QB in the NFL you need a certain skill set, and I’m sorry, but Tim just doesn’t have it. And don’t give me all that “true leader, heart of a lion” stuff. That stuff is only worth a 1st round pick if the guy has the proper skills to go with it.

I’ve been proven wrong PLENTY of times, and maybe I will be here too, but using a 1st rounder on a guy who barely knows how to take a snap from under center and has the longest delivery (yes, even his “new and improved” motion is slooooow… watch the vids) of any QB in this draft just seems like a total waste to me.

What a wasted pick it would be.

Just wanted to clarify… I don’t think drafting him ANYWHERE would be a wasted pick (3rd round or later would make sense to me… then his inevitable failure to climb an NFL QB depth chart wouldn’t be as hard to swallow), but it would certainly be a waste of a 1st rounder where we could grab a starter in the form of a CB, S, or OL.

I agree with you 100% vike83

"We have a right to be proud, for in our veins flows the blood of many brave races who fought as the lion fights for lordship. Here, in the whirlpool of European races, the Ugric tribe bore down from Iceland the fighting spirit which Thor and Odin gave them, which their Berserkers displayed to such fell intent on the seaboards of Europe, ay, and of Asia and Africa too, till the peoples thought that the werewolves themselves had come."

by NMVike on Mar 26, 2010 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Get it done.

As long as it doesn’t involve the #30 selection in the draft (to be used on a real CB), I’m all for trading for McNabb.

Finally, we could stop hearing about McNabb v. Kolb on ESPN.
Finally, a QB who will be a viable starter for 3-5 more years.
Finally, no excuses for Chilly and Bevell’s offensive production or lack of SB rings (part 2).
And finally, probably a closed book on whether McNabb is a good QB or not (he is).

by KC Viking on Mar 26, 2010 1:52 PM CDT reply actions

Hey if you think Kolb/McNabb gets a lot of headlines

Try Favre/McNabb for a while. I mean c’mon are you serious? If we picked up McNabb and when Favre came back I would drop Sage and TJ and pick someone up in the draft to work. Finally we’d have a little breathing room to work on a new QB.

I will say this watching McNabb tank Philly’s chances in the play offs year after year does make me a bit skeptical, but he’s still a pro bowl caliber QB and not the kind of Pro Bowl caliber QB Culpepper was either.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Jepp The Viking on Mar 26, 2010 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Not even

I didn’t watch them in the playoffs last year, but the previous year, when they made it to the NFC Championship against the Eagles, McNabb looked absolutely terrible. He was horribly inaccurate and couldn’t even hit his tight end from about 3 yards out. Again, I didn’t watch much of him last year, but to say that it isn’t McNabb is a bit of a stretch.

It isn’t all him, but he deserves more of the blame than what you’re suggesting.

by Frost on Mar 26, 2010 6:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Favre

would not come back, at least not with the Vikings, if McNabb was acquired.

McNabb has taken the Eagles to 5 NFCCGs and 1 SB. The Vikings have not gotten that far that many times in 30 years!

by KC Viking on Mar 26, 2010 7:23 PM CDT up reply actions

True

The Vikings have, however been to 5 NCCGs and 0 SBs in 33 years. It’s sad to think about.

What you said there

only underlines how much Donovan McNabb has achieved in a fraction of the time.

by muffin man on Mar 26, 2010 3:15 PM CDT reply actions

Anyone see

McNabb as a possible WIldCat tool? I know we ran some of those plays with Harvin this year. Imagine the possibilities…… :)

I’d get McNabb whether or not Favre returned, for the right price of course. Say..For a 2nd rounder and some player we don’t want any more?

Ski-U-Mah!

by CrazyCollegian on Mar 26, 2010 3:26 PM CDT reply actions

If PFT is correct

McNabb’ s trade value has dropped from a one to a two and again to a three. Philly still wants at least a high second but there bargaining position is getting weaker because of all the speculation and because McNabb only has a year left on his contract. A second or third with Rosenfel’s thrown in would be a great deal. The fact that McNabb reportedly is only interested in being traded to us only makes the price cheaper.

by CanadianViking on Mar 26, 2010 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

I had heard

Philly wanted a high 2nd.

Yeah it was either between T-Jack or Rosenfels that I would trade. I’m leaning Sage too, just because he could back up/mentor Kolb.

3rd and Sage sounds like a perfect deal. Make it happen Zygi!

by CrazyCollegian on Mar 26, 2010 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions

They said they wanted a top 42 ?

Because they want BUF to bite at 41 , since the St. Louis trade talk is a no go. Chilly and Andy worked it out in Alaska . Did anyone here if they had any time to actually catch a fish ? The McNabb talk isn’t good. THE REAL QUESTION IS ?? W e need to do a Bellicheck and find Tarvaris a new home , maybe a 4th in 2011 . How does that sound ? If the vikes want Tebow , the CLE/MIN slots in the third would be the place though we are looking at Curran/OLB In that spot. I hope Wash from TCU could fall in the second because he didn’t do a complete work out but it’s a pipe dream…GET THE JACKSON DEAL DONE ?????

by gothicpurple on Mar 26, 2010 3:58 PM CDT reply actions

Hahaha

But who would we want in the CFL…..

Ski-U-Mah!

by CrazyCollegian on Mar 26, 2010 4:12 PM CDT up reply actions

TJack

would easily be MVP in the CFL and I might watch more than a few games a year. Cleo Lemon is getting a shot with the Argonauts and will probably do well. The only players who make it to the NFL from the CFL and succeed are usually talented but undersized players who get overlooked and then star in CFL.

by CanadianViking on Mar 26, 2010 4:41 PM CDT up reply actions

undersized is good...

the WRs hands would be closer to the ground… TJack could hit them.

I BELIEVE...

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Mar 26, 2010 5:01 PM CDT up reply actions

That's pretty funny

even though I do like TJack. Actually, there seems to be more CFL players going to the NFL lately. Cameron Wake in Miami, Stefan Logan KR for Steelers, and Kenny Onatulu on our own Vikings.

by CanadianViking on Mar 26, 2010 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions

3 guys from the CFL

Did they only play for a year or two and are still young? 3 guys don’t start much of a trend.

One power slam from Brock and Mir might be dead. He better watch his words. He'll be eating them soon.

by VikesPma on Mar 26, 2010 6:24 PM CDT up reply actions

They all played 2-4 seasons in the CFL out of college and last year was their first year in the NFL. Not suggesting it’s a trend just something I noticed. Two out of the three are special teamers and only Wake made any impact as a regular player. For perspective Wake was probably the best defensive player in the CFL and it was still surprising to see him have some success in the NFL. The difference in talent level is huge and I’m not a fan of the CFL, but it is nice to see tweener type players eventually make it to the NFL.

by CanadianViking on Mar 26, 2010 7:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't see it happening.

I don’t think the Vikings are going to pay:
Favre $13.mil.
Rosenfels $4.mil
Mcnabb $6mil + a signing bonus.

That’s $10+mil worth of QB’s sitting on the bench. (not to mention our 1st rd draft-pick)
The Wilffs are rich, but I don’t see them throwing $10+mil out the window for 2 back up QB’s.

by chaosg on Mar 26, 2010 5:38 PM CDT reply actions

1 year insurance policy, then...

First, they wouldn’t likely keep Rosenfels if they did this. He would have to go. Next, getting McNabb as insurance at $6M for 2010 and extending him with it loaded beginning 2011 is a great move! It sets us up to get a nice young QB to develop (this year or next) to take over in 4+ years.

by PurpleJesus on Mar 26, 2010 6:18 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think

they’d just suddenly drop Rosenfels. They traded for the guy only last year. He hasn’t even gotten a shot. No, if anything, I’d see them cutting Jackson rather than trading away Rosenfels, unless they could get that 4th rounder back somehow.

by Frost on Mar 26, 2010 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

I didn't say "drop"...

…I said he would have to go. I would see a deal with Philly looking something like Rosenfels and our 2nd round pick for McNabb.

And for someone they traded for, he didn’t even play a series all year when he clearly could have been activated as part of the squad in many games during the year. Pick one (Cleveland, Detroit, NYG, etc…..). It became apparent early on that Chilly didn’t quite like what he got versus what he had in TJack.

by PurpleJesus on Mar 27, 2010 7:40 AM CDT up reply actions

anything is possible,

but the Vikings are losing $Millions every year as sit is, so I just don’t see them forking over that kind of money to have Mcnabb sit on the bench.
Plus I don’t think they want to upset Favre right now, and I doubt Mcnabb wants to sit on the bench…….Just my opinion :)

by chaosg on Mar 26, 2010 6:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Right now

Their loss of income still gets supplemented by the NFL. The Vikings get many millions$ each year. They are also fighting for a stadium and are getting closer.

Besides that, think about the Favre revenue they made. They could also make McNabb revenue in the future. Frankly, I think it is a wise investment, especially at $6M as I saw elsewhere + and extension.

by PurpleJesus on Mar 27, 2010 7:42 AM CDT up reply actions

It could work, there's lots of variables involved here.

I just think it’s easy for us fans to spend Wilff’s money…..lol. There’s no guarantees about a 2011 season, so he’ll want a front heavy contract…
It also comes down to McNabb willing to sit out for a year, (and I highly doubt he is).
If McNabb wasn’t McNabb it would be different, but McNabb is good enough to start for a bunch of teams, and he’s like 34yrs old. I think he would rather start for the Raiders, Rams, Bills, Buc’s or somebody like that, than sit and watch Favre play for a year….again, just my opinion.

by chaosg on Mar 29, 2010 5:19 PM CDT up reply actions

It's either Favre or McNabb

They would never play on the same team together. McNabb would under no circumstance accept a backup role and he shouldn’t. Yes, even if it meant he knew he would be the starter next year if Favre came back for this year.

One power slam from Brock and Mir might be dead. He better watch his words. He'll be eating them soon.

by VikesPma on Mar 26, 2010 6:27 PM CDT up reply actions

i think...

that after getting mcnabb, brett would try and come back and ask for the starting gig, upon saying its a competition (remember chilly and mcnabb go back) favre asks for his release and joins the chicago bears, going on to beat us twice and throw another game ending interception in the championship game.

by redhearring on Mar 26, 2010 7:18 PM CDT up reply actions

well if he leave the Vikings in that sort of fashion, then he can throw all the game losing INT’s he wants…lol
but if he’s a Viking, I hope those game losing INT’s are behind him. :)

by chaosg on Mar 26, 2010 8:49 PM CDT up reply actions

One more year of Favre or

3-5 more seasons with McNabb. If I thought McNabb could stay healthy for 3 seasons straight I would have my answer, but I don’t.

One power slam from Brock and Mir might be dead. He better watch his words. He'll be eating them soon.

by VikesPma on Mar 26, 2010 6:22 PM CDT reply actions

I would love to see McNabb in the Purple. At least we know that McNabb does not end the season on INTs like the QB we “currently” have on our register. The Vikes would have have to be in paddling up Sh*t creek if Favre does not return.
