Late night with CFV (and jersey orders) :) FA Thread Join in this evening
I'll get it over with. If you want to place a jersey order this will be my last for a month or 2. Write me at vgerkovich@yahoo Thanks for all your help guys.
I didn't spell check as I wanted to get his on B4 BF and his BS come on TV.
NOW! If your going to stay up and watch BSPN free agency hoopla tonight. Drop in here and give your thoughts and updates as you get them. Below is a list of the top 20 as NFL .com sees it. Note our man Chester is up there. He is a must for us to sign. I can bet someone is going to offer him big $. He is older but has not taken the beating most guys his age have. All the more reason to give him a contract similar to what he has now. Fair deal, but someone will really want him. Then what?
I say skip on the Westborook idea until you talk to Thomas Jones. If Westy can quit with the concussion syndrome I would love it. Tommy Jones will come to play and be a good replacement for Chester. Which again, I hope we don't need to do.
Next. Dump Madueu Williams contract and go after Dunta Robinson. Wonder if Sharper would even talk with us. Robinson is a cover and hit corner who is not going to make stupid mistakes going after an impossible interceptions. He will make a guy pay for it in the flats. Love to see him in purple. Maybe we consider Pennington if Favre would out and out say something. All the more reason I think Favre is ready to come back and watch for the Vikes to move up in the 2nd round to grab McCoy to tutor under BF.
LB's? How bout Fajta or Okafour? With EJ a big question and Brinkly still learning could one of these 2 or Joey Porter come in and allow Greenway or Leber to take the MLB.
Let us know your thought tonite. One of the few highlights until draft day.
Tier 1
1. Julius Peppers, DE, Carolina Panthers: Peppers has 81 sacks in 122 games and fits in any defense. At 30, he's young enough to play for four years. Like him or not, he had 10.5 sacks last season.
2. Karlos Dansby, LB, Arizona Cardinals: If he hadn't been franchised twice, the Cardinals could figure a way to keep him. He's still close to a 100-tackle-a-season linebacker in any scheme.
3. Gary Brackett, LB, Indianapolis Colts: I have to think Indianapolis figures out how to keep the leader of the defense.
4. Thomas Jones, RB, New York Jets: The Jets opted to part with the veteran, but he has gained more than 1,100 yards on the ground in each of the last five seasons.
5. Chester Taylor, RB, Minnesota Vikings: He's been a situational player, but at 30, he has fresh legs from a limited workload. He can do more, and someone will see him as the answer to their running back woes.
6. Darren Sharper, S, New Orleans Saints: At 34, he may be old, but he tied for the league lead in 2009 with nine interceptions and took three back for touchdowns. He also averaged 41.8 yards a return per pick.
7. Dunta Robinson, CB, Houston Texans: Cover corners are just hard to find. He has been franchise tagged in the past, but is out of the team's price range and also has a medical history.
8. Ryan Clark, S, Pittsburgh Steelers: A heads-up free safety who could step in for a number of teams.
9. Darren Sproles, RB, San Diego Chargers: While he may not be an every-down back, he offers big-play capability.
10. Antrel Rolle, S, Arizona Cardinals: Rolle was due a $4 million roster bonus this month. He is a safety with corner skills. He can match up on wide receivers and hybrid tight ends that cause problems in the slot. He is excellent at baiting quarterbacks and playing the 'robber' role.
Tier 2
11. Derrick Mason, WR, Baltimore Ravens: Would be entering his 14th season and threatens to retire, but what he really wants is a multiple-year contract. He had 73 receptions for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
12. LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego Chargers: He's not the same back he was a few years ago, which is why the Chargers opted to go in a different direction. With his work ethic, he can still be a 1,000-yard rusher in the right situation.
13. Kevin Mawae, C, Tennessee Titans: The veteran made the Pro Bowl on a team that's in a youth movement. A playoff-type club could get a year or two out of him.
14. Leigh Bodden, CB, New England Patriots: The organization tried to get a long-term deal done with him a year ago and it didn't work. He had five picks this season and could start for a number of teams.
15. Chad Pennington, QB, Miami Dolphins (M): There's no denying he's a medical risk, but his name came at the combine. He's still better than a few starters out there.
16. Kevin Faulk, RB, New England Patriots: It's hard to imagine Faulk in any other uniform. He's still a terrific third-down back, and tough to blitz or cover.
17. Brian Westbrook, RB, Philadelphia Eagles (M): The Eagles decided it was time to cut ties with the versatile threat. He may not clear a physical, but if he does, he will have choices. While he needs to be treated with a conservative practice regime, he's not a bad role player.
18. Kyle Vanden Bosch, DE, Tennessee Titans: He went to the Pro Bowl last season and still plays with great intensity. His production dropped to just three sacks without Albert Haynesworth around, but a team like Detroit might love to have him line up next to possible draft choice Ndamukong Suh and teach the rookie pro football.
19. Ben Watson, TE, New England Patriots: Not many tight ends with upside in free agency. He can still flex his alignment and stretch the field.
20. Keith Bulluck, LB, Tennessee Titans (M): The veteran says he'll be ready for the season, or maybe closer to mid-September. However, if you are willing to wait, he can still play the run and attack an offense. It would be great to see him return to the Titans. Coach Jeff Fisher told me he would like to see Bulluck finish his career in Tennessee.

chester to visit bears
i think this is dumb. he will not start there over forte and the bears are far from a team that will be contending for a title. come on Chester. i think he will have the same role he has in Minnesota
That's mega ultra lame for him to visit the Bears
but hey this is a business!

Chester Visting Bears makes me wanna puke but...
Does this mean that Chilly has talked Zigi into signing Westbook for a lower amount. Westy’s concussions took him out of a big $ contract.
Something is up. No effort to make a deal with Chester, or seemingly little, was there a deal done? Not tampering but did Westy call someone and say this is what I’ll sign for/
Why is Chester so quick to bolt. Chicago? Forte? It’s not like he is walking into any beter situation as the "go to " RB on the team.
I have a feeling Westbrook has a flight into Mpls/St Paul tomorrow or Sat. this is too fishy smelling. maybe Westy wants to come to Minny all along. Is the concussion thing a smoke screen. He’ll get some good $ but Philly is a dying team. I don’t care about jackson and all the young rookies. Westbrook knows he will be too old before Philly is a force in the near future. He knows he can last sharing reps with AD, Favre at QB? If Brian signs you gotta know Favre is coming back as if Phat Pat coming back wasn’t enough of an indication.
Maybe CT
has given up on being the feature back and is out to cash a check. Couldn’t really blame him…
Still I think we have a much better chance at a SB than the Bears...
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Interesting about Taylor. I thought he would want to go somewhere like Houston or San Diego so he could be the featured back. With the Bears he’d probably split time with Forte. It would hurt you guys to lose him but let’s be honest, you have the 2nd best Rb in the league.
On a side note, apparently Clifton is visiting Washington, which like Citrus, makes me want to puke! We’ll likely lose him now and then will be without a true LT. If we lose Clifton it won’t matter how dominant our passing offense is going to be next year because Rodgers will be laying flat on his stomach!
I heard that the Mullet
Was sending pictured of Clifton to Snyder. He then wrote him a letter stating Clifton was teh best LT he had played against last year…
I hear he’s going to bring BBQ sauce to Green Bay this year.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Any chances the Vikings would want to pick up Aaron Kampman or is Ray Edwards going to continue to be opposite of Jared Allen?
Well the Vikes are where good Green Bay players go to die
So I wouldn’t rule Kapman out, however I don’t think we want to be spending the money on him on a spot where we already have a lot invested. There is a lot of money in that defensive line I’m not sure we can live with another high price player (which is why we might be losing Edwards this year.)
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Thomas Jones
was the guy bad mouthing Favre. I don’t think he’d be a good fit. If Chester leaves we still have AD, Percy, Albert Young and/or Ian Johnson to pick up his slack.
I would be interested in seeing what Albert Young is up to
Although it sucks when we’re in a going to the Superbowl mode to lose anyone. You just never know who was the lunch pin for the team last season. Losing one key player could drop us out of it and that worries me.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
I think it is Westbrook
As much as we all speculate Favre is back and they are just covering up an agreement so BF can get out of mini camps and probobly part of training camp. I think Westbrook sent a word to Minnesota.
It makes sense. Why would the Vikes not make a huge effort to sign him (CT)? Does Chester just feel slighted or are the Vikings letting him play the market for value and then make their offer or is a Westbrook agreement in place? Pretty big gamble considering CT is unrestricted. I think there are plans for Westbrook. Favre would love having Westy as a backfield pass option. Percy could be your true option as the #2 back but he is more effective at running out of a wildcat and spread. Counting on Young or Johnson if AD goes down is not a comfortable scenario-Westbrook is gonna visit and probobly sign if we find out Chester signs with the Bears.
I’d take Westbrook from a few years ago. He was awesome. I think he is just not the same. Westbrook is football-fragile due to the severe concussion he had. He can have a normal life, but he shouldn’t go play pro football anymore. Just my layman’s opinion. Furthermore, his knees get worn out if he has to practice on turf during the week, and the Vikings usually practice indoors at Winter Park. Westbrook’s old ACL injury and his old ankle injury are still there, slowing him down.
My guess is Chester Taylor will sign somewhere else.
Then we will do the following at running back. We stand pat and go with AD, Albert Young, and Ian Johnson for the season. Albert Young will have the second running back job, including being the 3rd down specialist, if he has a good offseason and training camp. Maybe we will bring in a guy to compete with Johnson for the third running back job. Harvin will contribute out of the backfield on certain plays and in the wildcat.
We might draft or sign an undrafted free agent fullback, like John Connor, although that is hard to guess at. Tahi was tendered, and will probably be in uniform at training camp.
I'm not sure Westbrook
can block like Chester. I do know he’s very dangerous on the screens, but so is Percy.
