LT is scheduled to visit us on Thursday
First, i didn't dig this piece of info up it was Raysofhope who first commented on this. Second, Whoopeee. I am ecstatic about this news. The reason LT left San Diego, was because he did not have enough left in the tank, to be a starter. Coming here would only mean most third downs and on exotic play packages. I really think that he can excel in this kind of offense. Plus, a future HOF 'er and the Best RB in football today, i like that quite a bit.

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson will make a free-agent visit Thursday to the Minnesota Vikings, according to Sports Illustrated.
Tomlinson could be a replacement for Chester Taylor, who signed a four-year, $12.5 million deal with Chicago on Friday. Tomlinson was released by San Diego, so he wouldn’t count toward the restrictions the Vikings are facing in free agency as one of the final four teams in the playoffs.
Tomlinson averaged 3.3 yards per carry last season and there are concerns about his explosiveness after nine years and 2,880 carries in San Diego. But as a third-down back, the role the Vikings must fill with Taylor gone, he could be a good fit in Minnesota. He has 530 career catches, averaging 59 catches per season.
In terms of ball security, Tomlinson has lost 12 fumbles in his career, so his ability to hang onto the ball could be attractive for the Vikings. Starter Adrian Peterson has lost 13 fumbles in three seasons.

SHOW YOUR HORNS!
Can you imagine?
I think LT could be a good 3rd Down back. My only question is could he be an option for Favre to throw to like Chestor Taylor was?
Otherwise I would LOVE this move!
Plus think of all the jersey sales…….

LDT had 100 catches a couple of years ago.
So short answer is yes.
As a Chiefs fan though who watches him twice a year I’d say “buyer beware”. I used to cringe when he got the ball, but lately I was relieved as I knew he would just run into the pile ahead of him for 2 yards. To me, adequate 3rd down backs can be found cheaper and just as effecive in the bottom of the draft.
He also wouldn’t be a guy who I would bring in to mentor AD or for the locker room presence as he didn’t get the knickname “Complainian Tomlinson” for nothing. That being said if Brett Favre doesn’t return, I don’t give a shit what the Vikings do! haha kidding (Kind of)

Thanks!
The only mentoring I could see LT do for AP was ball control.
In terms of Locker Room, Favre has us covered many times over. :p LT could go pout in the corner for all I care, as long as he converts 3rd downs. That’s why we want him in Purple, to convert 3rd downs.
BTW, Chiefs 2010 AFC West Champions? Maybe?

2010 might be pushing it
2011, definetly.
Thomas Jones signing was huge, I think we have the best backfield in the AFC now with Jamaal Charles going off in the second half.

That's what GB thought
about Ryan Grant after he exploaded in the second half of the ‘07 season… look where that ended up. I’m not knocking the guy, I’m just saying that one good half of a season doesn’t guarantee he’ll be good next season, or any after that. But if he doesn’t, you always have Thomas Jones, which would make up for it.
LT...
I am so pumped…I know he is deteriorating in the last couple years, but LT is a stud who rarely fumbles. We need to get this deal done, Adrian needs someone to help him make sure he won’t lose the ball any more.
LT is a great receiver in the flat and he also can throw for a few too…could definetly help out if we want to continue to explore wildcat with harvin.
LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!
why was LT and westbrook above AP in peterson's 1st 2 yrs.?????
they both catch well. you heard it here first sign them both . wow that will help build a stadium and get the purple dinasaur up off the tractor. he needs a john deere commercial’, why didn,t GB think of that , he could race percy and jared.
If we are that hellbent
about not staying in house with Young and Ian J. then I would like to see a deal with
Seattle for Forsett!
A bird in the hand is worth about 10.99 at KFC and makes me lick my chops
Yummy!!!!!
LT
LT is just a shadow of his former self. His speed has diminished and he just looks old. Thomas Jones would be a much better addition.
Hmmm, I don't know
My kneejerk reaction is to say Tomlinson’s done, and roll the dice with Westbrook. But is LT done? Tough to say. True, his YPC was way down, but he had a better average receiving (7.7) than Westbrook did (7.2). True, LT had 20 receptions in 14 games, and Westbrook had 25 in 8 games. But LT is durable, and Westbrook isn’t.
I think LT, if used properly, can be a good addition to this team. We might find out.

well hold on everyone..
all this talk was happening around this time this year about sir brett, also consider this, LT won’t be starting. He is going to be in a limited role. Just take that into consideration.
If he wasn't I would be pissed
I don’t think anyone here wants LT even sharing the load with AD. Personally, I would rather have a speedy back to offer a different look than what AD shows. Would keep the defenses working a bit more.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
If...
If they pick up LT, let’s hope that he doesn’t end up serving the sort of “limited” role that sir Brett did last year. If they can keep him limited, though, I think he’s a great weapon on an already potent offense.
(Now let’s make sure that the purple doesn’t leave MN after next season!)
LT comes with a few question marks.
Can his ego handle the small role he’ll play ?
Will he talk smack to the media when AP goes on a fumble-spree ?…..schism
Could LT carry the load if AP were to get hurt for a few weeks ?….doubtful
I wonder if we wouldn’t be better off with the young talent we have waiting on the practice squad.
LT better deal
I think that LT would be a better deal than Westbrook to replace CT as a 3rd down back. I am not looking to much into this meeting, who knows if LT will sign as a Viking.
Facts are stubborn things, but statistics are more pliable. ~Mark Twain
i worry
because this is the kind of move that will put the franchise into despair in 1-2 years, i think they are built to win now, which i am for, but the next few years means rebuilding right? couldnt we find/draft a young unproven guy? think about it, its the same question will he perform better than last year (college vs san diego) at least with a young guy if he developed we could have a building block. LT is merely a finger in the levee.
I'm 50/50 on this.
If LT can accept his role and perform better than he has been, then this could work well. But I’m not sure that will happen. I’d really prefer seeing how Young and Johnson perform.
In AP I trust

You'll see how they perform...
in the preseason. Personally, I’d rather go with LT than Young or Johnson because I didn’t really think they’re anything special from last pre-season. But then again its hard to judge how a player is when he’s only in for a quarter a game.
Scrubs?!
Come on man, isn’t that a little harsh?!
Second and third stringers get no respect… maybe that’s why CT left, the chance to be a starter took him out of ‘scrub’ status.

The real question is how much are they going to give him?
What happens if they give him close to what Chester got?
Here's the real questio...
Many guys just need a scenery change. LT was bumed after a "mediocre1200 yd season. Along comes Sproles, young and pumped.
This is not Shaun Alexander. Look at a lot of good player marked “washed up” they got a new lease and pulled out a coupel productive years. Roger Craig and LeRoy Hoard when they came here. Were they superstars anymore-no. Did they seem to have a new fire in assumig a role. LT could never imagine not being #1 back in SD. But here, he knows what his role is and may just find that fire. If so-WOW!
Also look at Sharper. He looked ready foor retirement his last year here. He goes to NO and feels he can be something special again.
Point is, alot of this is in these guys head. If LT can bang off 700-800 yds rushing and 40-50 grabs out of the backfield I wouldn’t complain at all. Even a little less than that. If he picks up key TD’s when he sniffs the end zone this could be one of the best running back duo in Vikings history.
What do we have to lose. He bites the big one and we go on to young and Johnson which is our only alternative anyway. Unless you think we’ll go after Gerhart in the draft (who I like) but that won’t happen. I don’t want to rely on young talent this year. We have one more year left of Brett and then back to grooming a QB/ It may be now or a long time.
Go for it Vikes-sign LT. Little money and big incentives will light his fire. At least he won’t miss a half a season like Westbrrok probobly will. Then again I would gamble on Westy if we don’t ink LT
Makes sense to me :)
That’s really the best argument I’ve seen for LT so far. Worst case, if he tanks, the Vikings tank him. I don’t consider Westbrook to be a viable alternative, and after that, Young is probably the best bet anyway.

You know what will be interesting?
LT is a 90-something, or possibly high 80s, in Madden… so We’ll have two amazing RBs in Madden next year! Totally trading LT for a CB w00t!
Not LT will most likely be in the low 80's and adrian in low 90's next year in madden
"And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you!"
I like the move
If he sign we are set. I live in SD. SD does not run the ball well. They line is not a run blocking line. With our line LT will be better. Get it done.
I'll ask again, what if the Vikings give LT close to or more money than Chester?
I like the move and I hope they sign him but that would be a signal that something more than money was going on with Chester’s desire to leave.
In the end I think it was also about playing time for Chester.
Signing LT would be a wise move.
I don’t think he’ll get as much as Chester got, but I could be wrong. LT would be valuable to the Vikings, but he is not a “must-get” for the Vikings like Chester was for the Bears.

Lets play a game
It’s called design a defense that can simultaneiously cover the following:
AP
LT
Shank
Percy
Rice
Berrian
Oh wait, you can’t.

Don't need a defense
If all those guys are out there at once, it’s 12 men on the field again… assuming the QB is there as well, of course.
Fine
Remove one of your chose. The challenge still stands. And one should never, NEVER forget Jimmy Klein. A thousand apologies.

He ran a lot of
draws as well….usually succesfully.
Methinks
That Chilly’s visit to Brett had a little to do with who to get incaes Chester left. Don’t fool yourself, Bretty had some input in this decision.

lol I'm sure.
The thing is that Brett is to old to be on a rebuilding team. Unless the team is definitely shooting for the super bowl he’s not going to want to get off his rocker. Now the good news is we proved we can get there. The bad news is we depended on him doing it far to much. Some of that can be directed at the O-line play and the shortening up of the gaps. However, strong pass teams tend to play a tighter gap anyway.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Spielman says today that the Vikings are simply going about the process.
He basically said we are not rushing anything. We have 22 starters coming back and we are going to do the best we can to fill in the gaps whether that be FA or the draft or both.
Sounded like a man going about his business, not panicking, just doing what he does best.
