YES!

No way the appeals process gets exhausted before the end of the 2010 calendar year. We get the Wall all year long! SKOL!

You sure about that?

If that is true, that is some great news……

We won the battle

but ultimately I think the NFL will win the war.

by StuckInCA on May 21, 2010 12:35 PM CDT reply actions

They will, I think...

… but will the war end before it’s rendered moot by the retirement of the 2 players in question? There’s a decent chance that at least one of these guys will end his career before the case is over, which might be exactly what they’ve got in mind.

What will be resolved first?

1. The Williams Wall court case(s).
2. The resolution of the Favre retirement speculation in 2010.
3. A new Vikings stadium bill is passed.
4. Cutler is sacked.

I am guessing #4 based on nothing at all.

Well for #4 to happen...

Cutler would have to get sacked by his teammates since it would be during practice before the season starts. So ya I agree #4 is probably the correct answer! haha.

Actually

I doubt Cutler would maybe even be getting sacked by his own teammates.. Since most of the QBs go un-touched in practice, etc.

When Pre-season hits, he may see limited playing time.. So it could happen during the pre-season, but with his limited play reduces the fact that he may be sacked… But the chances are still there… Just like the chances he would throw an interception.
Now, I think he’ll throw an interception before being sacked.. Since he will obviously be throwing a ball in camp.

Most qb's go untouched.....

But this is Cutler we’re talking about. I bet even his own teammates wanna rip him a new one.

You know.....

According to the what the judge said in the article I read..

It seems he is basically saying that the NFL is in the complete wrong & will likely lose all the appeals. Why can’t the NFL just admit they made a mistake?

I know I have read that some players have been informed and not suspended, while others got the suspensions. All while the NFL knew about the situation using it to play “gotchya” to players of certain teams. Almost seems that the NFL is playing favorites.

But, if we were to get the Williams wall all year, I could care less what the outcome is for next year. Since I am pretty sure not only will Pat Williams be retiring, so will Favre. Unless we make it to the Superbowl this time around, and lose and Favre figures, every year, we do 1 better!! ha-ha, than I could maybeeee see him return 1 more time.. Going I was just too damn close to give up.

Because this judge is wrong?

He’s already been found to have made the wrong call in this case once. The NFL did something irresponsible and dangerous by not disclosing the existence of the illegal substance in StarCaps, but in the end, MN law is not (in my opinion) going to prevent the enforcement of the CBA. And if the CBA is enforced, the league gets its suspension. They might be foolish, player endangering, negligent a-holes, but they’re right on the law, and that’s why they’ll never admit they made a mistake.

Well, that and the honest belief that the Williams were taking other illegal substances besides those found in Starcaps.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

Any Law Majors?

Curious on how this Appeals process will go.
Can it easily go on & on? Judge seems to favor the Williams Wall, but now the NFL is appealing.

Seems not long ago the Williams were just in court, and now the appeal already happened.. Can this be a back & forth match that goes on and on?

by Deek on May 21, 2010 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

Yes.

Especially if one party has an incentive to drag their feet (which the Williams do). Technically, the league can come back and ask that the injunction be lifted if the Williams aren’t diligently pursuing their appeal, but they have to go back to this judge to get the injunction lifted, and he’s clearly pretty hacked off at the league. Plus, it’s a complex case with serious conflict of laws questions and a convoluted procedural history. That’ll buy the Williams a couple of extensions on filing appellate briefs, which likely won’t even be due until August or September to start with. Once the briefs are filed (and you can tack on a couple of months for that to happen), they’ll probably ask for oral argument and a decision would come, at the earliest, several weeks after that hearing. I don’t practice in MN or their federal courts but I’d be shocked if the appeal was resolved before December at the earliest and there’s a decent chance it won’t be done until well after the season ends. But they’re slowly exhausting all of the available maneuvering and I suspect either the league or the players will emerge victorious before the 2011 season.

Which means the league might win the right to suspend the Williams just in time for the lockout.

Basically, this is a judge smarting from getting overturned saying “no, fuck YOU”, back to the league and the court that told him he was wrong.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

Nice write-up

I like how it could be delayed….
And for the lock-outs, a year w/o football will suck….
Ideally, what may happen is businesses going out of business.
This will prove to the public of Minnesota why a stadium deal maybe needed….
We can look at the lock-out in a positive manner if it were to help us get a stadium built.
What would suck about a lock-out is all the players are off of experience by one year.
Older players would just be 2 years older than the previous year and could cause a few retirements..

Plus the draft would end up being all messed up

Nice comment I enjoyed from the Yahoo Sports blog

That was pertaining to the article about the Williams Wall.

Here is an imaginary conversation:
“You are banned.”
“For what?”
“Taking a forbidden substance.”
“But I didn’t know.”
“You should know what you are taking.”
“How would I find that out? It wasn’t listed?”
“We knew, why didn’t you?”
“Wait, what, you knew? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Um, uh, um, uh… Oh yeah, how dare you ask! You broke the rule. We’re the league. Shut up and take your suspension. I am the all-powerful Oz! Tremble before me, mortals!”
“Yeah, whatever, that’s a pretty thin curtain, and a cheap flashlight shining through. I’ll see you in court..”

Ha-Ha!!! From the way the media is reporting on this, it seems as if they are siding with the Williams on it as how they portray the articles.. Finally, a media that biases its way in favor of what I would like them to be in favor of. haha
