Farve told player: "100 percent positive" he's retiring

Brett Favre is saying publicly that he hasn't made up his mind about whether he'll play in 2010. But he reportedly told another player privately that he's finished playing. Peter King of SI.com reports that after the season, Favre told a fellow NFL player whom he knows well that he's definitely done. "I'm 100 percent positive I'll never put on pads again in my life," Favre told the unnamed player, according to King. However, as King astutely points out, that doesn't mean much because Favre changes his mind all the time. He probably sincerely meant it when he said he was 100 percent positive he would retire. And a few days later he was probably 100 percent positive he would return.

He probably said this right after the season and it’s only being reported now.

This just in, Ed Werder is reporting from an unamed source the Brett Favre took a dump and Jared Allen ate it.

Let's see...

Put on pads again, get my $13 million guaranteed, bonuses, additional sponsorships from doing commercials (i.e., Wranglers, Sears, etc)., a chance to play with a great team with supportive fans, and another shot at a Superbowl. Not to mention being the first NFL player to play as a grandpa…

Or……..

Retire….. And fade out of the spotlight… And watch your starting streak end… And have to put up w/ Deanna giving you all these extra chores to do.

Hmmmmmm
Decisions….. Decisions….. Decisions………

There is no way

Favre will be first grandpa to play in the NFL.

Kurt walked away from a concussion with 7 kids still at home.

Different injuries, different situations, but I would say that the decision process and the questions faced are very, very, similar. The money probably does not drive these guys at this point.

none of this has any meaning at all. Anyone especially Peter King can make up something to spark some talk about his bf Brett. The only date that matters to me in whether he is coming back or not is Sept 9…i truely can’t believe favre would give up another oppourtunity for a championship…and revenge against the ’aints

Just saying....

You are a SB caliber team with him. Where are you without him? Borderline playoffs? Out of Playoffs?

by N4S on May 3, 2010 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

Borderline playoffs

Don’t mind the other guys, I don’t get why they’re acting all butt-hurt. It seems like a genuinely curious question.

Without Favre though, we would seem to be borderline playoffs. The team obviously has talent enough to get there without him, like we did the year before he came to town. It’ll be much more of a struggle to reach the post-season.

by Frost on May 3, 2010 3:49 PM CDT up reply actions

You know he was just trying to stir things up, Frost.

I think we are a playoff team for sure without Brett. I do not think we would win a Super Bowl, however.

But none of this matters, because he’s totally coming back. :P

by KC612 on May 3, 2010 3:07 PM CDT reply actions

Why are you guys getting defensive?

As if I am trying to disgruntle people over here. I’m asking a serious question. Non-Viking fans aren’t allowed to ask Viking fanbase’s thoughts regarding them?

by N4S on May 3, 2010 3:17 PM CDT reply actions

I would say..

Because even B. Favre doesn’t know what he is going to be doing come Sept. 2009…. But all signs point to a likely return..

But we haven’t ruled out the chance he doesn’t return.

Come mid July, he could say that he is throwing in the towel, and even go back on his decision and decide to come back late in the pre-season.

Until he doesn’t take the first snap for the Vikings come Sept 2009, the chance of him returning is out there.

by Deek on May 3, 2010 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

What question did you ask?

I read through your post twice. There’s no question to Vikings fans there.

It’s just an Eagles fan stirring the pot with an unsubstantiated controversy. The controversy, and drama, is created more by the media and folks like you, than it is by Favre himself. No doubt it’s disappointing that you aren’t drawing as much attention as you’d like, but we’re accustomed to drama fiends trying to get their fix at the expensive of Favre and the Vikings. We’re not falling for it.

Very true

The more I read into this… I see it is an attempt to stir a pot…

I initially thought it was a fan just scared of Favre not returning. I guess I was wrong.

by Deek on May 3, 2010 3:28 PM CDT up reply actions

You my friend a an imbecile

because in all honestly it was a serious question. My thoughts were I’m wondering if you guy think you will start Rosenfels or Jackson. Or try to trade for a QB somehow. Two which I thought that came to mind are Vick or Quinn (Denver). So yes, it was a serious question you defensive cry baby. If I was doing this on a Dallas board then it would be totally acceptable for you to believe I was stirring up trouble which I do from time to time. But the Vikings I don’t mind one bit so for you to claim this is pathetic.

by N4S on May 3, 2010 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Ryan Perrilloux

He could out compete both Sage & T-Jax. He’s a 3rd option.

Sage never took a snap in an actual game of the 2009 season.
T-Jax only served in garbage-time duty… But his QB rating was pretty high, but most of his plays were hand offs w/ a few passes.
It seems as if he assumed to be the starter for 2009 pre-Favre….
He has great mobility, great arm strength, but the accuracy and decision making is questionable.. Did it improve over 2009 and we didn’t see it? Too hard to tell.

But if T-Jax got two years under Favre and Ryan P. got a chance to serve on the Vikings squad and we cut T-Jax.. We would be looking pretty good going into the 2011 season. Because Ryan or Tavaris could be the next QBOTF.

Ya never know…

by Deek on May 3, 2010 4:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Ya I needed to clarify my post.

When I said Cut T-Jax, I meant to say cute Sage..
Sage would know the offense pretty well, but he also has not had much time to actual utilize it in a regular game.

Ryan sounds like he could be a potential hidden Gem.
But most rookie QBs never really shine right off the bat. He could be the insurance policy the Vikings want.. Give him time to develop and slowly introduce him into the game.

by Deek on May 3, 2010 4:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Didn't mean to come off as being

defensive. I think we’re a playoff team with or without Favre, but definitely a Super Bowl caliber team with him. I hope he comes back for one last run…

by KC612 on May 3, 2010 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

If Favre already knew "FOR SURE"

I am pretty sure he would of informed the front-office and his fans…

End of Story….

My theory, it’s really on the fence and in a position he doesn’t want to truely commit a solid decision. However, as Sept. 9th approaches, that itch to play will just increase. See, he had a great 2009 season (when you view it overall) being a Viking for the 1st year. What does that mean? Well he can have an even better year if he is just as healthy as he was in 2009. He knows the team better, he knows the offense better, and the team will support him.

Not to mention, he could have fun passing to a new potential threat (Webb!) and Gerhart could pick up blitzes or take the load off of Favre to make way for a better run-game.

by Deek on May 3, 2010 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

Then why go on Leno and say he is unsure.

He may have felt that way after the demoralizing loss to the Saints, but even the next day probably thought of giving it one more crack.

He will be back.

McCourty will do. If the Packers don't take him first... they would.

He avoids attention because he is an attention whore? Has he ever missed training camp while under contract? He doesn’t want to go to OTs. What a shocker. Other than hot to trot rookies, there probably aren’t many players who do.

This story is total BS.

Look, its possible Favre may have made his decision to retire, and if he has I don’t want to hear about it. Because what happens if the fire comes back in August and he changes his mind….again? No. If he has decided to retire, let us know in August. Let Chilly know now. That’s all that matters, is that he’s communicating (which every indiciation seems to point that he is) with Chilly.

But Favre is coming back…..so everything that I just said is also BS.

I’m confused how he’s milking anything.

by Salty on May 8, 2010 11:26 AM CDT up reply actions

You have to be a conspiracy buff to understand.

But some, who are in the know, believe that Brett took a picture of his bad ankle one day after the Saints game. He then secretly had his ankle surgery. He has decided to play but won’t unless millions of fans around the country beg him to do so.
So he releases the “photograph” at the time of OTAs. He will fake a surgery during training camp. After that he will ride into Viking stadium on his white horse to save the day by the second pre season game.

This applause is the only reason he plays the game. Loyalty to his teammates, loyalty to the fans, loyalty to his family and the Viking organization mean nothing to him.
The fact that he is 41 years old and way past the normal prime mean nothing to him. He simply needs to milk everything for the applause.

Hope that helps clear it up for you.

by jethrophet on May 8, 2010 6:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Remember guys

This more than likely came right after that beating he took in NO and it’s just now coming out. Remember Favre came out and said his decision would be extremely easy if it weren’t for the players and fans of the Vikings. He felt a sense of belonging. So he may have felt bad after the game and honestly felt he was hurting too much to go at it again but with all the support and love he’s feeling, how can he not come back for one last season?

by Favrecomingbackwhaaaaat? on May 3, 2010 5:54 PM CDT reply actions

I am so sick of morons out there...

who continue to believe or comment on what “an unnamed player or source” says or what some reporter who needs to fill his columns so what better way to say “according to an unnamed source” to get a few hits on thier blog or article. There are so many ignorant people out there who want to bash the guy and say he needs to retire and he needs to stop doing this because he is making a fool out of himself. Really? The last time I checked, the last comment Favre made was he needs surger. The last comment before that was after the Super Bowl. But yet, there are hundreds of stories about the “Favre Watch”. And you idiotic fans both Packer and NFL team trolls can shove it as well. He did not put the fans through this. The damn media did it. Every year, the media asked Favre when he was going to hang it up. Not the other way around. And if you want to argue with me about this, try. I grew up rooting for the Packers but you fans (im waiting for Packer trolls) made me sick to my stomach. I have kept quiet but enough is enough. This man has done more for the game and for the city of Green Bay, the state of WIsconsin, the Jets organization (trust me, he help sell some of the seat license thingys) and for the state of Minnesota. And thats just a few places. Funny how people are so sick of reading Favre stuff that he has the most comments on blogs about him then any player or team does. Go look it up.
I swear this country is going to the crapper if we have this many uneducated people in the country.

Yes, this is nothing more than a rehash of what I heard in January, that he was telling people that. In fact this may even be the exact same comment, also reported back then by King, made the day of the Saints loss, so it’s probably not news at all. King is recycling news.

Favre's statement proves one thing for sure

Favre said 100 percent. Who else on this site always says 100%? My God, it’s what I’ve always suspected. R4F is Brett Favre.

Did ayone really believe that Favre gave R4F four pairs of Wranglers? He got them in the mail from Wrangler, because he is Brett Favre.

Now when R4F says that Favre is coming back 100 percent guaranteed, you had better believe it.

That would be awesome is R4F was really B. Favre!

Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Favre has maybe lurked on DailyNorseman once or twice… Considering their are a lot of blogs, articles about him on here…
