Ray Edwards Signs His Restricted Free Agent Tender; Vikings Also Sign Triplett

In a move that surprises absolutely nobody, restricted free agent defensive end Ray Edwards signed his tender on Monday, giving him a one-year deal with a salary of $2.521 million for the 2010 season.

Had Edwards not signed the tender on Monday, the Vikings would have had the right to rescind the offer and replace it with an offer for 110% of Edwards' 2009 salary.

Edwards really came into his own last year for the Vikings, putting up 8.5 sacks in the regular season, and notching four more in the post-season, including an outstanding three-sack performance against the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional playoff round.

The Vikings also signed another one of their draft choices, as fifth-round selection Nate Triplett inked his deal today.  Triplett, a linebacker out of the University of Minnesota, did not have the terms of his contract disclosed by the team.

You sure Edwards had 4 sacks in the post-season?

Pretty sure he just had the 3 against Dallas. Don’t remember our D-Line getting any sack in the NFC CG.

Huh.

When’d that happen?

by Frost on Jun 15, 2010 5:34 AM CDT up reply actions

Saints fans were crying he drove brees into the ground

it was practically the only time brees was touched in that game, can’t remember exactly what part of the game it happened but over at CSC they were using that as “we did it too” to justify their team’s actions.

by nmvikesfan on Jun 16, 2010 12:26 AM CDT up reply actions

Well

Was it a potential late hit or was it the 1 & only sack that happened that game? You figured a DE running full speed will likely want to take the QB down in nearly any manner that is not too high/too low that may potentially even knock out the ball by any means necessary. Hard tackles could also wear him down.

I don’t see this as justification for the continued late hits that seemed pretty much done on purpose in attempt to rattle the cage. With so many late hits, you think one of the defenders would of maybe gotten a sack off. We didn’t have much for late hits, but we still managed one. When you think of it from an out-side perspective, you start to think a little bit if it was almost intentional.

by Deek on Jun 16, 2010 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Naw not really

It was a clean sack, just a solid tackle brees had to hang on to the ball and like you said Edwards hit him with some steam. It wasn’t high or low or late but still because of their many late hits/cheap shots they cried foul.

by nmvikesfan on Jun 17, 2010 2:21 AM CDT up reply actions

Well

Since he still had the ball, it coudln’t be considered late.

And if it wasn’t too high or low, than it’s pretty clean.

Their rebuttals are junk. Their fans really don’t have a leg to stand on w/ that stance.

They should take the D-line out to a field full of bulls and have them bull-rush the bulls for some good practice to get to the QBs… Get them good-n-ready!!

Edwards sacks

Trade Edwards

Robison is better and actually tries. I like what he does at DT when they put him in. Griffen will hopefully come into his own and while it is good to have a rotation in there we could get a good pick for Edwards. I am not high on him at all.

Let Ray Prove Himself

He has this season to prove that his performance in the latter half of 2009 wasn’t a flash in the pan. It’s up to Ray now, to show the Vikings and the fans that he’s worth top banana.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
SKOL!

lol top banana

ray isnt the top banana on the purple d-line and never will be … dont get me wrong ray is as talented as any one on the field at any given time however ray spends too much time thinkin and not enough time trustin in his god-given abilities and just turnin it loose … when ray just lets it all go he is dang near unstoppable and has proven that on several occasion … the real question can ray be as good without jared / kevin & pat i dunno … chances are that ray will get to find out thou given that his backups are really pushin to make ray expendable and by that i mean ray could potentially set up the purples draft next season and provide the purple front office with more amunition to further solidify the vikings entrenchment at the top of the nfc north and the elite teams in the nfl

at 2.5 million ray is a very attractive DE as trade potential

ray may even get us that early first round pick that we wouldnt hav pickin at #32 next year … the possibility of acquiring buffalo’s first round pick might land the purple with the likes of michael pouncey c/g from florida Ht: 6-4.5 Wt: 298 40: 5.87
and twin brother to maurkice pouncey now with the steelers … michael pouncey will be highly covetted so i think ray would be just the guy to insure the purple hav a shot at michael pouncey

Happy Birthday to me happy birthday to me .... I wish I could reject such a worthless gift today on my Birthday !!!!

I wonder if all the NFL owners have agreed to squeeze these players . Ray deserves to get paid and Studwell should right this one before the opening kick off.

Guh. Edwards

I’ll never forget the sight of mostly shutting down the Williamses and having the guy on the other end that I’d never heard of before that day be down Romo’s throat all day.

God Bless Texas

Yup

That was a great day in Viking history for me watching Dallas get blasted and Romo smashed to the Metrodome turf.

What game was it that he did that Superman thing

flying through the air over some defender (and getting a penalty as I recall)?

by Salty on Jun 18, 2010 9:22 AM CDT reply actions

I remember that!

Pretty sure it was earlier in the game. I think his excuse was that was the only way he coudl get to where he was. And the funny part was is that he only had contact w/ the player as he almost hit the ground. He basically landed near the players feet and maybe made slight contact yet got flagged. Would be interesting to see a quick video of it.

Maybe someone can find a link.
