Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

Ha Shank, But when will this END???

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/blogs/95389419.html

On Tuesday afternoon we did a blog post about Vikings coach Brad Childress and some of his coaches and players being taken via helicopter for a visit and tour of the National Guard base.

Included in the group was tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, who you might recall got into a bit of a feud on Twitter with his friend and former teammate Darren Sharper last month about the Sept. 9 regular-season opener between the Vikings and the Saints. Sharper, of course, now plays for New Orleans, which beat the Vikings in the NFC title game last season and went on to win the Super Bowl. (It all started when Sharper tweeted the Saints were going to target Brett Favre's surgically repaired ankle hours after it became known that Favre had undergone the procedure.)

Shiancoe sent plenty of tweets and pictures from his National Guard visit (www.twitter.com/VShiancoe) and at one point wrote: "TRUE STORY! Before target practice a soldier suggested a custom target for me. Guess he wanted to start my engine early for the SAINTS game!"

Turns out that target had a picture of Osama Bin Laden with a No. 42 drawn on the front of his shirt and a bubble quote with the words, "I'm Darren Sharper." Shiancoe posted before and after pictures with plenty of holes from target practice in the after picture. Shiancoe wrote, "The aftermath.. Can't even hold a game check with hands like that.. See you thurs night."

That was a reference to the fact Sharper tweeted that if Shiancoe has no touchdowns and less than three catches on Sept. 9 that the tight end should turn over his game check to Sharper. If Shiancoe exceeds those figures, he would presumably get Sharper's check. (None of this is going to happen, of course, but ... )

No word yet on how Sharper will respond to this latest bit of Twitter byplay but there is little doubt he will come up with something.

This FanPost was created by a registered user of The Daily Norseman, and does not necessarily reflect the views of the staff of the site. However, since this is a community, that view is no less important.

This is going too far IMO

I guess I don’t have a “sense of humor” to appreciate this. Sorry. I still have too much hatred of OBL to see it trivialized like this. What next, Hitler? And the shooting is a little too much too. Shank can join in it if doesn’t see it that way, but I don’t have to see it his way either.

How does serving in combat relate to

drawing a number and a speech bubble on a photoshopped picture of the biggest enemy of America.

Not only that but it was someone in the National Guard who did this, not Shiancoe.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 2:32 AM CDT up reply actions

See now you want to have some fun but when Sharper originally made the comments about Favre’s ankle it was like the world was going to end. I think writing “I’m Darren Sharper” coming out of Osama Bin Laden’s mouth is a little more serious then what Sharper orginially said about Favre and what he had said to Shiancoe. Seeing how the guy is well, probably one of the most hated men amongst Americans and rightfully so.

by packallday555 on Jun 2, 2010 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

And exactally

How is this offending people? Just seeing the image or the fact it is photoshopped and has been written on?

Clearly Sharper isn’t OBL so why would this be so offensive? If it was an actually picture of Sharper it would’ve perhaps been worse as he could of suggested that he was unfairly being used as target practive on a gunrange as opposed to a picture which was written on which depicts the most saught after person by our armed forces.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 2:36 AM CDT up reply actions

It’s pretty obvious why it’s offensive, I shouldn’t really have to explain it to you.

by packallday555 on Jun 3, 2010 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Ya

But keep in mind, it was a Minnesota National Guard member who put it up. I believe probably even wrote on it and even shot at it.

Can we as normal civilians really find it offensive for our troops when it was a troop member who did this?

Maybe C. Gates can chime in on this with his thoughts.

Ex-Navy SEAL

I do not find it offensive

Them shooting at OBL isn’t offensive. He is/was a legit target of our military so yeah that would make sense!

Whats on the picture wouldn’t be offensive to any of us. It may be offensive to a person named Darren Sharper though…and only he knows if he’s truly offended. There is nothing for all of us to be offended about military or not. That said, the point isn’t if WE should be offended, its that Sharper found it offensive (supposedly) and it is CLEARLY crossing a line to take target practice at a ‘representation’ of your opponent.

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep, Sharper found it offensive, and if I were ever in Sharper’s position I would have personally found it offensive as well. If others don’t find it offensive, then that’s fine.

by packallday555 on Jun 4, 2010 11:44 PM CDT up reply actions

So many things wrong with this. CLEARLY crossing what line? Seriously who gives a flying F whether trash like Sharper is upset and its doubtful he is.

What makes something a “legit” target?

Yeah, it was dumb of Sharper to every say anything about it. Shank just might have taken it too far.

All I said was that I don’t understand it. I am allowed to not understand it and not see some things as funny, I hope?

I didn’t find funny Bush’s 2004 correspondant dinner where he did a video spoof of himself looking for WMDs under the cushions in the oval office and not finding it.

What can I say, I don’t find much humor in the root causes of any of our Middle Eastern wars. Call me a party pooper I guess.

by Grime on Jun 4, 2010 7:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Now THAT was friggin HILARIOUS

That took some serious balls to do what he did. I owuld not have been brave enough. He was sitting 10 feet away from Bush, and he cut very close to the bone for everyone in that room, not just the WH, but the press as well. People were ROTFL staring at youtube screens across america the next day, but in that room … there are times in the audio where you could hear a pin drop in response to his jokes.

There are so, so many gems from that …

I stand by this man. I stand by this man, because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things, things like aircraft carriers and rubble and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message, that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound with the most powerfully staged photo-ops in the world.

Most of all, I believe in this president. Now, I know there are some polls out there saying that this man has a 32% approval rating. But guys like us, we don’t pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in “reality.” And reality has a well-known liberal bias.

The greatest thing about this man is he’s steady. You know where he stands. He believes the same thing Wednesday that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change; this man’s beliefs never will.

So, the White House has personnel changes. And then you write, “Oh, they’re just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.” First of all, that is a terrible metaphor. This administration is not sinking. This administration is soaring! If anything, they are rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg!

But not all the jokes were at Bush’s expense:

let’s review the rules. Here’s how it works. The President makes decisions. He’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put ’em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration? You know, fiction!

I like the accountability placed on Sharp by the fans . Saints fans seem to begin to feel the same from what I’ve read . Over at Canal I stated that a big enough target is on the Saints’ backs just trying to represent as champs . These distractions will catch up to this team . The fake representation of being never ending partiers is old news and will come bbite em in tha ass . This is not the way to model for young children like me . Keep it up though Darren . He won’t be 100% for week #1 and his frustration is showing .

by Salty on Jun 3, 2010 11:44 AM CDT up reply actions

And for the record there was NOT irrefutable proof. There was plenty of conjecture though…

You accused me of trolling Acme “when Favre came to the Vikings.” I responded by posting Acme’s own search results, which showed I posted THREE messages there between February and October 2009:

http://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2010/5/20/1480927/viking-fans#38381348

Ironically only one of the three was even about Favre. The first was about Ryan Grant’s contract, another responding to a request to critique a journalism class writing sample. And this is all the third said:

“Move on,” people!

Everyone else has.

The man is a professional, no longer under contract to Packers, and the Packers do not want his services anyway. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. If the Packers didn’t want him, but someone else does, it’s perfectly valid for him to work for them. Please, name me one other player in the NFL who you would expect to REFUSE to take a job with any team but one — even after that one team tells him "we’ve moved on."

TrevorR: you do realize you are losing credibility, not protecting it, by refusing to acknowledge I have proven you … yes … irrefutably wrong? Only a troll would call the results of a SITE SEARCH (!) “conjecture but not proof.”

by puddnhead on Jun 7, 2010 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I swear

I should have a total of two posts over at ACME at the moment.

One was about standing tickets and I believe I responded to a comment/post of yours.

Another was on the sexual assault, and it was totally a general comment about sports figures today, but it didn’t show up. I highly doubt it could have been deleted, but I suspect I just didn’t post it correctly.

Is this really a place where one has to watch their toes when they step in or what?

I think I saw your comment on the sexual assualt thread, you sure it didn’t show up? I’m pretty sure I even responded to it haha.

I don’t think it’s a place where you have to watch your toes. Everyone over there is pretty laid back, unless you start talking about things that are pretty much completely unrelated to the subject on hand. (Cough, cough, Gothic :).)

probably looked at the wrong post..

I guess I’ll have to go check it out again.. Curious to see what people thought of that idea.

by Deek on Jun 7, 2010 3:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually

I found it…
I was basically called a sexist upon my initial post. Not my intent, but I can understand why people thought that.

The point I was trying to make in general was people are greedy. People with fame mean money, assocation to people with fame could also mean money, because assocation to fame could potentially mean those people will have their own fame which also may tend to lead to money.

Examples: How many women came forward in the Tiger Woods debacle? Several… Don’t some of them have potentials Books already coming out? I could be mistaken…. I can’t see why any of them would be making accusations of assault now… If anything, T. Woods may lose money due to divorce, not because of his mistresses.

But you know those mistresses would like a piece of the pie too. Otherwise, why step forward, right? Fame or fortune…. Or potentially both…

by Deek on Jun 7, 2010 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I understood what you were saying, and agree with you. I think people took your comment as basically saying the girls were full of shit, which to me, wasn’t really what you were trying to say at all.

by Deek on Jun 9, 2010 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I don’t think it’s a place where you have to watch your toes. Everyone over there is pretty laid back, unless you start talking about things that are pretty much completely unrelated to the subject on hand.

I actually don’t disagree that Acme isn’t too bad of a place, although the overall bitterness over there seems to be a LOT stronger than the other major Packer boards. I think Brandon may have something to do with that, he posted a diet of anti-Favre stuff which seemed more virulent and mocking than the other sites, and so I think ended up building his audience from people more inclined to hang onto that bitterness. A healthy minority (if not a majority) of Packer fans are not nearly that bitter towards Favre, in my experience. But still it’s not too bad, overall. It’s just that there are not a lot of regulars posting over there, and so the few that tend to attack visitors, and have a knee-jerk reaction to escalate unfriendliness by calling people trolls without justification, are maybe more visible.

So … is that what I did in my three posts over that six month period that year? Did those posts “step on toes” and give TrevorR the right to call me a troll for posting them? And I hope that we don’t have to keep hiding behind this “its conjecture not proof” crap that TrevorR is using to not accept that this is REALLY what I did, not what he keeps claiming in his posts. Either accept that what I say — I only made those three posts to Acme last year before October — or else take the 30 seconds to run the search and prove me wrong by linking to one other post of mine,.instead of taking just as long to pretend you don’t know whast really went on The ostrich-sticking-head-in-sand act he’s got going on is tiresome.

I agree Grime

I thought TrevorR has been a respectful Packer fan that has visited this site. I haven’t seen any issues with him. He posts frequently, has knowledge of our team, and brings in an unbiased opinion, or maybe a negative yet respectful opinion of our team at times.

Why would we not accept that? We are all homers and sometimes need to be sort of told what’s up on certain issues. Some of us are probably drunk off the Purple Kool-Aid when we need to sober up enough to realize that this is the reality seen outside of Vikings world. People like Packallday & Trevor can help bring us that view.

Neither in what I said, nor the comment by Salty I responded to, was TrrevorR accused of being a troll. What he is accused of by Salty is “making stuff up.” Specifically about other people and what they’ve said in the past, in order to proclaim them trolls.

Trevor go home and have a beer relax don’t come over here and start shit again

by cali viking on Jun 3, 2010 11:10 AM CDT up reply actions

BAH…what shit do I start? I’d like to see what I “start”. Usually its me making a comment about something and people calling me a troll no matter what I say even when its not trollish. Sounds like your own people are the ones who like to start “shit”

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

Lol. So angry. Why? You do know that not everyone has to praise the Vikings like you right?

by packallday555 on Jun 3, 2010 3:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Hey it’s just cause I don’t go to there site talking shit I don’t belive in that I would much prefer to just have a positive talk with my fellow Viking fans I sometimes get a little crazy defending the vikes but that’s just me it’s cool I see where ur comming from packa u have always been cool but I see ur point.

by cali viking on Jun 3, 2010 3:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Dude…you MIGHT have me confused with someone else. I don’t come here to talk shit…at all. I might defend my team when its attacked like you’ve done but I never come in here to gloat or talk shit. Do some research. I enjoy learning about the Vikings. I think I know a fair amount. I like in MN. Listen to your sports talk stations all day…I probably know as much as you do. So lets get past this “he’s a packer fan” BS and just talk about sports.

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

see thats what pisses me off im over it you should do the same D D

by cali viking on Jun 4, 2010 1:09 AM CDT up reply actions

But if all you want to do is cry over imaginary shit and talk trash, then you’re just a hemorrhoid.

Another valuable contribution.

by Salty on Jun 6, 2010 10:56 AM CDT up reply actions

Personally, I haven't seen one reference to you being a troll,...

except for the fact that you maight seem to think that you are. So, are you?

This is all lame. I thought that Sharper’s comments about Favre and Shank were lame…and I think that Shank’s comments about Sharper have been lame. And the fact that so many people are so worked up about what either player has posted on twitter is just fricken hilarious and quite entertaining.

by Norse Force on Jun 5, 2010 11:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Analyze this!

Shiancoe has gone too far in defending Favre.
It’s interesting though how Sharper has no moral problem with putting a major cheap shot on a future Hall of Famer QB. Yet somehow his morals surface and he feels patriotic in defending himself against a very classless joke.
If Sharper is so offended by this bad joke & has the moral sense to see how it is wrong for Shiancoe to compare him to the leader of Al Qaeda, why doesn’t he see how it’s wrong to put a cheap shot on a QB?

I've got an idea...

Why don’t one of y’all try to hurt him since you’re internet tough guys? Seriously, have some decency. Even if you think others don’t, this has to stop somewhere so start with yourself.

You have to remember

This was started by the coaching staff. I use to like the saints. It does not matter how suck they are. It all change when the coaching staff did this. I can understand playing hard. Hitting the guy to let them know you are there. That is a fine line from playing dirty. To me they playing dirty. That is it. Yes i am bitter. I am proud that the viking have class.

by vikefansd on Jun 3, 2010 12:46 AM CDT up reply actions

Keep in mind he hasn’t actually PUT a cheap shot on anyone yet. So while Shiancoe already did his immoral act, all Sharper has done is talk about it. THAT is the difference I think.

Sharper is an idiot…he’s talented but he’s only in it for the attention. He;s a showboater and always will be in it for the attention. You should know this by now…he was on your team.

well there was that one time with the cat and that fire cracker.

Then another with a lot of booze and a couple prostitutes. But really I digress.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Grime on Jun 3, 2010 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions

lol, that sounds more like Sharper!

Wasn’t Shank the one who had the shot of his dick in the lockerroom on TV though? Maybe that’s what he meant!

Probably best not to find out what TR was talking about. It’s sometimes made up crap anyway.

Verb: to Shank

Definitions: 1)to stab 2)to catch aTD 3)to whip “it” out(alternatively known as “the move” or “the Roethlisberger”)

Sharper should just shut his mouth.

He keeps stirring the pot. Cocky assholes get everybody worked up and then someone gets seriously hurt. Just play football.

+1

Especially now that he’s trying to act like he’s really offended, as if he had shown an iota of class and now Shank has gone too far.

You know what someone should do?

If they have great Photoshop skills…
They should Photoshop a blend of the picture above and a picture of D. Sharper

Kind of like how people have done photoshops of Bush and Monkey and of that sort.

Than send it to Shiancoe’s twitter… To give him a good laugh….

that wasn’t photoshop…..that was “everyday bush” without make-up or costume.

in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.

ha-ha

Sadly, I think it can be done with every president..

Media just loves to criticize the president, no matter who it is.
