Yes.

I’d say that the teams need to get a hold of Shiancoe and Sharper and tell them that enough is enough. Just go out and play the damn game on Sept. 9.

Sharper's response

ok homeboy you done went too far, making me out to be something that has brought this country alot of heartache. Imma bust you right under your chinstrap from the first play on. I don’t care about the fine. F the money Imma do it for the red, white & blue. And you’ll see me cuz I’ll be dressed in black & gold. Protect your neck that’s all the warning you get.

At this point, they both need to chill out and shut up.

Sharper shouldn’t have started it, Shank shouldn’t have posted up that pic. Now it’s going farther than it should have. I like how BaldViking put it.

I will admit it I prejuded you. I was expecting everyone here on this site to be adding fuel to the fire, because well that is what some saints fans did to you. I am glad that we can all agree that this crap needs to quit.
I attended a military funeral yesterday from a friend and mentor that died in combat. Ironically he was looking for sama bin laden. Thank you for having some respect and tact on the situation.

by StuckInCA on Jun 3, 2010 12:05 AM CDT reply actions

I just wanna let you all know that this was a soldier's idea...

TRUE STORY! Before target practice a soldier suggested a custom target for me. Guess he wanted to start my engine early for the SAINTS game!

Whether or not he should’ve posted it is a judgement call. Oh Twitter…how long until you get banned in the NFL with things like “Imma bust you right under your chinstrap from the first play on. I don’t care about the fine.”

I'm still a Minnesotan at heart...

by urluckyday on Jun 3, 2010 12:53 AM CDT reply actions

well not completely

It wasn’t the soldiers idea to post it on the internet like an idiot. Honestly, if he wants to be funny while off with a friend that is fine…you cross the line when you put stuff online. I am sure he thought he was being SO funny but he wasn’t. Imagine having someone compare you to the mastermind behind an evil terrorist organization that was responsible for one of the most devastating events in the modern history of your country.

That is far worse than talking about injuring someone in a game…that crossed so many lines is sickening. Sharper was an idiot for talking about injuring players but this is really disturbing. Wouldn’t you argue that he is threattening to SHOOT Sharper if we are taking what these guys are saying as literal??

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 8:21 AM CDT up reply actions

Sharper can't hit hard

enough to injure anyone but himself.

by KC612 on Jun 3, 2010 8:39 AM CDT up reply actions

haha…probably true.

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 8:45 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't see the lines crossed...

It is a picture which doesn’t look anything like Sharper and the only resemblence is it has his number and name.

I completely agree that he probably shouldnt have posted it to add fuel to the feud but realistically if there was someone’s name on it from the Vikings and he had shot at it would we be taking it as a joke? A joke between teammates?

It isn’t as if we are followers of OBL and so I cannot understand how it has crossed any lines. If his picture is shown in the news relating to a story it isn’t offensive and crossing lines but people are basically saying a line has been crossed because someone wrote on the picture.

I hate OBL and tam not offended in the slightest that they use him for target practice. I also could careless that someone wrote his number and name on him. If my name was put on it I wouldn’t be whining like a baby, I may be upset but I would understand that somone 1 upped me especially after I started the entire thing.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 11:35 AM CDT up reply actions

I guess I don’t see how one can be up in arms about a guy making a threat to do something and not be up in arms about another guy writing Sharpers number on a picture of someone (with the quote bubble) and taking target practice. ONe was verbal and the other was visual but the message was the same…I am going to take you out.

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 4:48 PM CDT up reply actions

The National Guardsmember

is the one who wrote the quote and drew the number on bin laden so if you want someone to be mad at be mad at him.

by KC612 on Jun 4, 2010 12:46 PM CDT up reply actions

He’s not the one who posted it on the internet though…what you do in private is your business unless you take it public.

by TrevorR on Jun 4, 2010 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Perhaps the problem is

that Twitter is a public forum that people use like private texts/e-mails and people often can’t differentiate between stupid private jokes and offensive/threatening comments. The players are dumb for not realizing that their “harmless” trash-talk can be misconstrued into intent to injure, gambling on the outcome of their sport, and trivializing terrorism.

People who get worked up about this stuff should realize that these tweets are anything but meaningful. Sharper and Shiancoe’s back and forth should be treated like the trash talk between a couple of 12 year-olds playing Madden.(ignorant and irrelevant)

by CanadianViking on Jun 3, 2010 1:11 PM CDT up reply actions

I hate twitter...

and stuff like this makes me hate it more! sigh…can’t people just talk to each other on the phone anymore? haha

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 4:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Even though I'm pretty young,

I’ve got to agree with you. The thing that’s good about twitter is the same thing that makes it awful and that is giving everybody a public voice. Freedom of speech is great as long as idiots aren’t the ones talking : )

by CanadianViking on Jun 3, 2010 5:09 PM CDT up reply actions

2nd time throw twitter in the shitter!

Even if you don’t want a long drowned out phone call, there is this thing called texting.

I really don’t care what an athletes or celebreties are doing day to day. It just makes people obsess over other normal people that just happened to be fortunate/lucky to make it big. They are no better than me or you and we don’t need to follow their every whim. People should get their own lives to care about and follow!

I use twitter for work for promoting stuff to customers and suppliers but I REFUSE to use it for personal stuff. I don’t want to know what Nick Barnett or Adrian Peterson is eating or what they think about this or that…its all garbage. Garbage in garbage out!

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Also...

I would agree this entire thing is completely stupid and shouldn’t have even ever started. It was funny but It has gotten old now.

It’s just hilarious to see the person who started all of this end up crying in a corner because of a picture with his number and name on it. Wasn’t even a picture of him. Both show remarkable stupidity.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 2:24 AM CDT up reply actions

Everything is correct but

You miss the part this was brought on by a classless coaching staff. My guess is this is going around the NFL. The saints will have an X mark on their chest. I play sport competitively. As a weekend athlete people do not take kindly to people playing dirty. We don’t go out to intentionally hurt someone. I am a 5.0 tennis player. I hit the ball straight at the net man. He block it with his racket. As good sportsmanship. I apologize. Their is a fine line between competitive and dirty. The saints coaching staff does not know that. Don’t think the player around the league dose not notice this either

by vikefansd on Jun 4, 2010 3:47 PM CDT up reply actions

He's just a douche.

Plain and simple. I’m not sure how else to describe him at this point. Teammates get real close, and when you say “I’m gonna actually hurt one of your teammates” (not in so many words), you stand up for him. I think it’s ridiculous that the league hasn’t talked to Sharper yet.

Does anyone know why Sharper started telling people that he wanted to essentially END Favre’s career?! I understand that it’s a big game, and it’ll be a grudge match…but if anything, the Vikings should be the ones talkin’ first…

Apparently Sharper can’t grow up and realize that he unleashed all of this nonsense by trying to act tough when in reality, he just promised to take down a grandpa…real tough, Sharper…we’re all impressed.

I’m sorry, but I have to agree with FSUViking…

The picture may not be the best choice, but I also don’t think that it’s ridiculously offensive in any way. Not necessarily tasteful…but not something anyone should be up-in-arms about. I just don’t see it.

I'm still a Minnesotan at heart...

by urluckyday on Jun 3, 2010 2:44 AM CDT up reply actions

Exactally

It may not have been tasteful but I fail to see how it could be offensive to a) anyone but Sharper and b) why he is this up in arms over something that Shiancoe didn’t even make but was given by someone in the Minnesota National Guard who was on the gunrange with him.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 2:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Because Shiancoe is the one blasting it all over the internet like an idiot douche. I can guarantee you that the soldier will probably get punished for his involvement now too because Shiancoe was too stupid to realize that you don’t put #$! like this online. Its now indexed all over…it will never go away.

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 8:24 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

The entire thing should never have been shown but it has been taken completely out of context.

It wasn’t as if they were comparing Sharper to OBL so there is no need for people to feel it is offensive.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions

I am not offended by it…but if sharper says he is…then he is. We can’t dictate what is offensive to him. The whole thing is pretty ridiculous if you ask me…WAY blown out of proportion and now pride is settling in and these guys just want to outdo each other.

Would it be offensive if he just had a picture of sharper out there and was taking target practice on it? I would argue that would be pretty threatening by itself…ya know

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 4:51 PM CDT up reply actions

WHAT?!?!

Its WORSE than what Sharper has done in my book. It insanely offensive to Sharper…crossed many more lines than saying out loud what every NFL player is thinking (going after a weak spot).

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 8:26 AM CDT up reply actions

If i walked upto a cop and said i was going to go break this guys leg/ankle

and then went and did it would I not be arrested?

Now if I draw on a picture of OBL and showed him it would I be arrested? No.

Point is it is far more serious to threaten someone physically, bring the game into disrepute by betting on the preformance of players then it is to draw on a premade picture for the armed forces which would be covered under the freedom of speech act in anycase.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 11:40 AM CDT up reply actions

Breaking the rules to end a player's career?

That’s something that a lot of people want over at APC. Maybe you don’t have a problem with it. Would you feel better if they used a picture of the fat Osama?

What I would do right now for some Favre speculation instead…Never thought i would say that but geez!

by PurpleJesus on Jun 3, 2010 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions

"Favre speculation instead…" okay.

i speculate that before the month of june is over, that chilly will show up in hattiesburg, miss. in a brand spankin’ new john deere hybrid (part stretch limo / part riding lawn mower). he’ll call brett and leave a message saying:

“i just happened to be in the neighborhood, looking for some weeds to pull. and it dawned on me that you live near by! doesn’t that sound like fun? can you help me out? cuz i’m not sure where the best weed pulling is around these here parts.”

after pulling all the weeds on brett’s 400 acres (with brett riding in the back getting a pedicure), he then took brett out to waffle house, and even picked up the tab.

then he’ll get a blurb about it in sid hartman’s column and insist that it didn’t even cross his mind to talk about football or training camp.

in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.

by jethrophet on Jun 4, 2010 10:53 PM CDT up reply actions

If I understood why it's so funny, I'd give Shiancoe the okay

Reading the story behind it helped me understand it a bit, but before that I was just in a confused ‘wtf’ state. Because Sharper doesn’t even look anything like Osama.

by Frost on Jun 3, 2010 4:24 AM CDT reply actions

Yeah its really not funny. And the comparison of Sharper to a terrorist isn’t really logical either. Now if they put up a picture some premadonna who’s always looking for attention and called him Sharper, that might be funny.

by TrevorR on Jun 3, 2010 8:25 AM CDT up reply actions

That would have been hilarious

It would’ve been far funnier to have a picture of Sharper imo but i still think that the picture is funny in anycase.

They aren’t comparing him to a terrorist. Imagine if the soldier had the exchange with Shiancoe that he had to concentrate firing at targets far away and he had brought in this custom target to help him focus at that distance.

Point is this is taken out of context and in no way do I feel it is comparing him to OBL. People write and say stuff that is far more offensive than someone writing a number and name.

by FSUViking on Jun 3, 2010 11:50 AM CDT up reply actions

Maybe the goal of the picture was...
  1. 1 target.???? And Shank did come out and said he meant no offense to anyone. Sharps just keeps running his mouth like a…yes, "growling chihuahua.

Oh and Shank can spell too!

by PurpleJesus on Jun 3, 2010 3:38 PM CDT up reply actions

This is exactly the kind of accountability Sharp & the Saints needed ....

I’ve been saying for days now on the Saints site that the partying has ended and these distractions will hurt rather than help their team . It’s a big enough target on their backs to be the Champs . Sharp needs to get off the crutches before he struts his stuff . He won’t even be 100% for week #1 . The City of New Orleans will go back to their pre-Katrina reputations . Where are the brown paper bags when they need them again ???

My take on it..

I am personally rather offended by the picture. Not because OBL was jokingly made to be Sharper in a target practice bout, but because someone is joking about OBL. I don’t find it funny. At all. Dunno if anyone else looks at it this way, but there are some things that just shouldn’t be joked about. OBL, in my mind, is one of them. Was it meant in good fun? Sure. Was Sharper being compared to OBL? Nah. But do I find the joke offensive? Yes. And I can also see why many other people would find it offensive.

Ha

I spent last night going through some of their twitters.. Just reading through.

Most of it was sort of boring, since Twitter is not my thing.

But, from what I see, Visanthe is a moderate user of Twitter, McKinnie uses it excessively, Sharper rarely uses it.

My overall opinion:
Sharper started it
Visanthe fired back with light trash-talk.
Sharper responded more aggressively
Visanthe maybe took it a step too far (Controversial) but he went further to explain himself and hopes he doesn’t offend anyone.
Sharper took advantage of the situation to twist it and try to make Visanthe bad
McKinnie only has been putting his words out there to stir the pot.

That’s my un-biased opinion of it all… No clean hands anywhere on this ordeal.. Just some are dirtier than others.

I will say this…some of their banter does sound like buddies given each other a hard time. Maybe its more playful than we all make it out to be. We;ll never know though unless they tell us. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was though I guess.

How long has sharper known and played with Favre…he’s probably just getting the old man riled up but ultimately they need to take it offline…its getting old.

i like visanthe shiancoe a lot more now that he has a real nick name....shank.

before, i always thought i thounded like i had a listhp when i pronounced his name….but no more.

shank, the shankster, shank-a-dank, shank-ee-doodle-dandee, i’ve been shanktified, shank you very much….

and now, it’s shaw-shank redemption time against those infidel bag heads.

in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
