T.O.?

So i was watching Sports Center today and they were talking about how Terrell Owens may not even land a job as a reciever in the NFL this year. I find this CRAZY!  I really think the vikes should take a shot at him, I mean with we could get him for extreamly cheap and he can add a potential deep threat for the Vikings.

Yes, I do realize T.O. has had some problems in the locker room, but can that really not allow him to be great?

I dont know, its just a thought.

I like the thought of adding T.O. as well

The problem I see is that we have two starting WRs and Harvin in the slot. So where would T.O. fit? I am not worried about him being a problem or giving Brett crap because I think that Brett will not take it and PWill, KWill, JAllen, etc will keep T.O. in line.

But it still comes down to who is the odd man out?

The only way we could do that is if we traded Berrian for an offensive lineman.

One thought I have had is we trade for Marcus McNeil from San Diego.

If we trade McKinnie & Berrian we should be able to get pretty close without giving up a top draft pick.

If not that then perhaps we would trade Berrian for a decent offensive lineman from some team to add to the depth on our line. Obviously we need an experienced guy or at least a two year guy with promise.

But I doubt it will happen this close to camp.

The only way we go for that is if someone gets hurt (knock on wood).

Mark

I just found this article and thought you would find it interesting. It talks about a little known rule in the CBA concerning contract extensions. Here

My Brain is Bleeding

Reading that link makes it very clear why players need lawyers and accountants at the table to figure out their contracts and options.

I don't consider TO a deep threat,

but he is an incredibly strong fearless route-runner who knows how to get open. I agree that he is an attractive talent but who would you want to sacrifice snaps in order to put him on the field?

by Jshore on Jul 17, 2010 3:37 PM CDT reply actions

It's called a four WR set !!!!

Even though I feel Westbrook will come down on his asking price and would be a better fit . Brett wouldn’t need to pamper him . A big body would do well in the North . He is experienced on grass . That is a big factor for me . He was a WestCoast guy for years . He has a lot of pluses …

by gothicpurple on Jul 17, 2010 8:00 PM CDT reply actions

Rice was suppose to be too slow to be a deep threat too .

With Berrian healthy and Harvin more involved in his second year . The Redzone would be the focus !!!

by gothicpurple on Jul 17, 2010 8:03 PM CDT reply actions

We don't need T. Owens,

And we certainly don’t need the Noise that he brings, but the Bears could use him.

by chaosg on Jul 17, 2010 8:47 PM CDT reply actions

We'd rather take our chances on all the young unproven guys.

He can go drop balls for the Packers.

That would be Marko Mitchell our latest pick up .

I’d like to see Westbrook’s amount to come down . He would fit nicely . Reynaud could go back to WR/slash

Another Ex-Eagle....

That’s what worries me. Chilly was the Offensive Coordinator in Philly and had TO as one of his weapons…

I think it would be a mistake. 36 years old, going into his 15th season, I think TO’s ability to positively contribute to an already very talented Viking squad is questionable at best. Add to that his baggage, and the fact that the Bills already evaluated him and decided to let him go, suggests that TO would not be a good fit in Minnesota.

Childress and T.O. did not, repeat, NOT get along at all in Philly and that should all that needs to be said about him coming here.

As I understand it

Chilly doesn’t like T.O., so TO coming to the Vikes is a non-starter. I remember whenTO reported to camp during his contract squabble, Chilly, who was the offensive coordinator, said hello to TO, and TO told him not to talk to him.

So Chilly made it a point to come up to TO and say ‘hi Terrell’ every day’.

And during the labor hearing, he called TO an ‘a-hole’, under oath.

Yeah, I don’t think TO will be a Viking while Brad Childress is coach.

T.O. loves Favre!

T.O. would not dare drop a ball from Favre!

I will be there in person to see some REVENGE on Sept 9th,2010!

Brett Favre is the Greatest QB in NFL History, Bar None!

Brett Favre will be back in 2010, Guaranteed!

Brett Favre will lead the Vikings to a Victory in Super Bowl XLV, Guaranteed!

HA HA sorry R4F so does sidney and i think favre to sid is all we need but hell if favre wanted him i would say what the hell because favre is the greatest QB ever so if he wanted him im all for it!

by cali viking on Jul 18, 2010 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Why?

What would he add to the Vikings? He’s lost a step so he can’t get separation from DBs, he couldn’t catch a cold, and he has serious attitude problems.

Yeah, we need that guy.

by Ragnar on Jul 19, 2010 6:33 AM CDT reply actions

Idk about all that

I mean, he played for the Bills last year and he had several drops, but was still a fairly productive WR. I think with Favre, he’d return more to the Dallas days. I mean, we saw how Sidney Rice just exploded and he had trouble seperating from DBs previously as well.

Owens would do pretty well on our team, until Favre left. But it won’t be happening anyways because of the bad-blood between Childress and T.O, same way it went when we needed a veteran to back up Jackson and Culpepper was available, yet we skipped over him. Burned bridges are not rebuilt by the organization.

Any other old guys out there for the Vikings?

I am really pleased with the fact that the Vikings are a SB contenders with a great mix of age and youth. Pat Williams, Brett Farve, and Ryan Longwell are the only players over the age of 33 on the entire team.
Hutchison, Klienssaer, and Winfield are between 33,32,and 33 years old respectively.

This team needs to continue to replace aging players with younger players. To add age at a position that is not in need makes little sense in building your roster for the future.

To add a TO, or a Westbrook would add little to the teams effectiveness but it would increase your injury possibility, locker room unity, and payroll.

Ya

At one point I thought it would be a good idea considering I wasn’t a fan of B.B. with (from my own opinion) his attitude and high pay-rate. But, the only old receiver I would love to have as a Viking which I am pretty sure won’t happen this year, but could happen in the near future would be R. Moss. By the time that comes around I’ll maybe feel even more differently as he will even older.

I like the idea of us having young guys, but we’re always going to have young guys on our team. We’re also going to have times where our young guys who are good move on because we couldn’t keep these guys happy contract-wise. It’s a business, and some players are just not worthy of keeping around.

by Deek on Jul 19, 2010 9:30 AM CDT reply actions

No way

Whatever positives TO might bring, they’re more than balanced out by the pile of bullcrap he brings with him everywhere he goes. He throws hissyfits on the sidelines if he’s not getting the ball “enough” even if the offense is going great without him – he always has and always will.

Besides, what can TO do that Sidney Rice can’t? Nothing. Rice is faster, bigger, and has better hands. TO is less of a deep threat than Bernard Berrian. TO at this point in their careers is only outstanding at grandstanding and complaining and having his own unwatchable show on VH1.

by princelyfrank on Jul 19, 2010 9:38 AM CDT reply actions

I wouldn't say Rice is faster

Or bigger. Better hands, yeah. He doesn’t have as many drops as Owens, though Owens is probably targetted more often by his QBs, so you’re bound to see a higher amount. Honestly, I think T.O. would do great here, like he did back in Dallas, simply because Favre makes his WRs better, and T.O. is already a pretty good wide out.

by Frost on Jul 19, 2010 12:02 PM CDT up reply actions

I take nothing away from TO, Moss, or any other talented receiver, no matter the age.

But a team needs to fill its needs with Free Agents. We have to keep money available for those positions where we have to fill in for injuries or weaknesses. Wouldn’t you hate to waste money on a WR and then not be able to fill in with talent if a player gets hurt at another position?

by lifelongvike on Jul 19, 2010 12:49 PM CDT up reply actions

True that

And like someone said.. T.O. would be great w/ Favre at QB, but what about afterwards?

It would only be worthy of a 1-year deal….
And w/ the bad-blood, I don’t see it happening.
I’m sure he’ll land somewhere though.

And w/ veteran experience, I’m sure his price tag is higher than what some teams may consider paying him though.

by Deek on Jul 19, 2010 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

T.O.?

We don’t need a tight end who can’t block.

by Bjorno on Jul 19, 2010 8:55 PM CDT reply actions

If he came he would take Rice's spot

If Rice has a hip issue and will have a hard time starting the season I might take the man for a bit, however, I don’t see him and Favre having a great relationship. Also, it’s interesting to see how TO (who never did get his shit straight) is out of teams while Moss (who was at least as much of an a-hole in his youth) figured it out and is still a big deal on the Pats.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Grime on Jul 20, 2010 9:40 AM CDT reply actions

Yes

Any story with legs of T.O. signing in Minnesota would have to mean an injury to Sidney.

Harvin should beat BB for the other starting WR job (if he stays in the slot for much more of his career, especially due to a guy like BB who is just ok, he will be a disappointment). As long as the contract isn’t too long, I like the idea of T.O. and Harvin as the Vikes’ starting wideouts.

by KC Viking on Jul 20, 2010 12:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Our WRs

Each have a downfall to them.

Bernard has or could have hamstring issues…
Rice has lingering hip issues
Harvin could miss any game at any moment due to serious Migraines.

Added depth would always be a nice convenience, but the question is, will it be beneficial?
Vets like G. Lewis, or rookies such as Webb (If he gets a few WR reps in) could easily take the #4/5 spots in case of these scenarios.

I think, if the Vikings were remotely interested, we would of heard more rumors.
I think T.O. would be at the cheapest price right before training camp begins. But, maybe even than the cost would be too high for the Vikings to bite.

I think Childress would be more interested in grooming a rookie over T.O. anyways.

by Deek on Jul 20, 2010 3:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Right

It would only be worth doing if T.O. is sure to start 10+ games at WR. There is probably no such thing as any team signing him as depth without a huge blowup or sudden retirement by mid-season.

by KC Viking on Jul 20, 2010 3:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Childress...

Hates T.O.

Why would he let him join the team when he did his best to get him out of Philly?

by Bjorno on Jul 20, 2010 5:23 PM CDT reply actions

The Lions, 49ers and Bears

Are idiots not to sign Owens. If the Vikes had Berrian, Harvin or Rice go out with a season ending injury then Owens would fit, but not as it stands now.

Favre, even your agent has had enough. The drunken grillmaster, Buzz Cook, is getting too old for this.

by VikesPma on Jul 21, 2010 12:52 PM CDT reply actions

Reports are that the rams are still interested.

They could use a one year contract but can’t afford any trouble in their locker room. Can TO teach young guys how to win? He never has had to do that before.
But Bradford would love it.
