Ah
I hate to be the internet police guy but people can we please start using fanshots for info like this? This isn’t against you personaly Loki, it just clutters up the board a lot and now that camp is starting we’ll be sure to see a lot more posts. TY for the info again.

Loki
Thank you for putting this up as a fanpost, as I never would have checked the fanshots section.
+1000
I understand what Jepp is saying and he has a very valid point but you have to take into consideration that even the tenured people here rarely look at the fanshot sections, so the noobies wont ever. I usually look at the fanshots probably once every two weeks, also due in part that they’re so far down on the layout of the site that you forget about them.
Anyways sorry for my rant but this excites me
What you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your entire rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I wonder if there isn’t away to sticky the most recent fanshots (1-3 or so) below or above posts to make them more visible? It’d be great to know what I’m getting into before clikcing. Sometimes a fanpost is so well written it deserves a thread, and sometimes its more fanshot worthy. (I’m guilty of both).

I was going to put this is as a fanshot originally, but couldn’t figure it out as it said I needed to put an image in or something and I gave up on it
Also I agree my dsludo that I never look under the fanshots section
Sorry the information is a little short for a fanpost, but I thought it was interesting info and wanted to share

Oh no
This isn’t against YOU persay, just a general “I wish fanshots were viable and had a seperate sticky” stream of consciousness.

Makes a valid point. Even us veterans rarely check the Fanshots…
I do not check them often, since the majority of the time its a picture/video, and my interenet access at the time is limited on speeds. I try to stay close to the text only articles when possible…
SBN should list them together and distinguish them design wise
like making the fanshots italic or something along that line.
Loki, sorry for butting in but
If you want to post this as a fanshot there are 6 choices at the top of the page when you start a fanshot. One of them is “LINK”. That would have been the best choice for this type of post. Good luck in the future.
And yes, your site does have the fanshot section lower than most all other NFL sites. I almost posted this for y’all as a fanshot earlier today but didn’t get any response from the last Favre fanshot I posted.
And now a word from one of our sponsors "Preparation H, when discomfort sneaks between your cheeks, Preparation H"
Eh
Hint? Maybe… But I am sure w/ the blobs of $ Brett and his family have, a renewal is barely any means to go off of. It’s a good sign, but could easily be canceled…
I view it as a little bit more of a positive note, because if Deanna renewed her membership, that just means she approves his return. Now it is more-so soley based upons Favre’s ankle and if that is what really will hold him back.
I thought that too
With all the money they have, big deal if she buys a gym membership that they wind up not using – but like you said, she wouldn’t even be renewing her membership unless she knew there was a good chance of it him coming back, I would think
by Loki The Viking God on Jul 29, 2010 1:52 PM CDT up reply actions
Any reporter who does that
Has entirely wayy to much time on their hands..
Main reason: If the case was to contemplate Favre’s return to the NFL, by the time Deanna showed up to the gym, Favre would have already made his decision on returning… Just making him another athlete who is a player… And the media has less to report about…. Except speculation of the season opener.
Stop using common sense please.
What if Deanna’s phone broke, and she decided to make a road trip to Green Bay to book about 50 hotel rooms on say….I don’t know….maybe Sunday October 24th. And on the way to Green Bay she decides to put in a good work out at her gym. Well, the obvious answer to that is: Ed Werder better break out the tent.
I find it strange that this is newsworthy, but stranger still because I admit that i am interested!
I couldn’t stand watching the OJ slow-speed chase in the white Bronco, but I did watch live TV coverage of Chilly driving Favre from the airport.
Can’t…tear away…from…Favre…saga…
I guess as a Bears fan, I’m finely attuned to the career of a player who’s inflicted so much pain over the past 2 decades, sort of in the same way that innocent forest creatures instinctively run for cover when a hawk flies overhead.
Is it football season yet?
Favre like Lifetime Fitness Rock!
I will be there in person to see some REVENGE on Sept 9th,2010!
Brett Favre is the Greatest QB in NFL History, Bar None!
Brett Favre will be back in 2010, Guaranteed!

Holy crap
You guys are starting to make my fandom for the guy pale in comparison. First the hunting thing & now this.
Really? Thought it was clear. I was saying, posting about Deanna Favre’s gym membership goes well beyond what I would consider doing. There is also a story out there a couple weeks ago about Favre making pans for hunting during the bye week, that’s what the other reference is. I thought it was posted here, but maybe it wasn’t. In any case, when I stumbled on it I didn’t think it even newsworthy enough to post it here, which I guess is why I never confirmed if it had been.
LOL, if someone had told me a year or two ago that I would be posting to a Viking message board to say that there was too much talk about Favre on it … I would have thought them nuts :)
On a side note:
Training camp opens in 15 hours!!!
Not to be the Internet Police
but this should have been a fanshot. I appreciate the fact that most folks don’t head towards the fanshots, and focus on the fanposts, but we need to start.
Yes, it’s an interesting bit of news (the fact that I just wrote about a Deanna Favre gym membership that tells me I feel like a crocodile in Africa, the river is almost dried up, and if the monsoon rain doesn’t come soon I’m gonna die…but I digress) but not really fanpost worthy, seeing as how you had to type the phrase ‘75 words’ about 72 times to get to the minimum verbage to make it a fanpost.
I’m not mad, and yes, there are other guys who have done the same thing in the past, and I figure this is as good a place as any to let everyone know.
We just need to be better as a community in determining what should be a fanpost and what should be a fanshot.

Lol Loki
Hes not attacking you per say. Hes not attacking anyone really. He’s just telling everybody to make a concious effort to scroll down farther and check out the fanshots. It just happened that your post was the most recent that was interchangeable with a fanshot. Its honestly no big deal really, considering the lack of amount of information out there for fanposts but come season time when there is a lot of information and these 45 word fanposts are made, they come to push down hundred word and more "Insightful (and I use that term loosely, NOTHING against you at all) posts until they are no longer visible.
What you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. And thank YOU for being a jackass
It wasn’t a shot at you, just an observation about the board in general, and the topic had already been discussed, so I thought I’d offer some perspective.
But thanks for taking it to a completely unnecessary level.
"Whoever said that the pen is mightier than the sword never encountered automatic weapons."
If the same topic had already been discussed above, why did you need to reiterate the same exact thing? That’s what was unnecessary and that’s what I took offense to

I would just let everyone know that they were on track with what they were thinking. Nothing more, nothing less.
Like I said, I wasn’t mad or anything, just offering clarification for a fanshot v. a fanpost. Nothing more, nothing less.

But was it planned?
Brett Favre’s offseason to-do list:
1. Avoid all offseason workouts and camps by doing the following:
a) Have delayed surgery on that swollen ankle.
b) Be somewhat reclusive in the weeks after that (it’s good for mystery).
c) Work out with area HS football players.
d) Be seen with Brad Childress.
e) Make sure that part of the story is about rocky moments with Childress (even better for mystery).
f) Appear on 1 or more talk shows to say nothing (optional).
g) Ask someone in the family to do something relatively small to suggest that I may be returning to Minnesota.
2. Do an ad or two to keep my name in the spotlight, even when the sports writers are tired of me.
3. Drag my old bones to the first preseason game.
4. Bring some more ruckus in the purple in gold again.
(I doubt his agendas go past #4)
Thanks Loki .....Info like this is more imporant than which space gets abused .
This is significant . These moves are important to a serious run . Now that we can actively hunt for free agents . I don’t think Brad is done adding pieces . Atari may get released in GB . Chester Pitts is on the mend . Westbrook is still free . I see that Atogwe got snatched just before we could bid for his services . Two more draft picks to sign . And a few extensions and we are ready to go .
Ted , what’s with the CLICK bashing . I think we got the point when the first guy bashed and offered a fake apology . Twice doesn’t appear genuine . Sorry guy .
Wasn't a bash, and if it came off that way, it wasn't meant to be
"Whoever said that the pen is mightier than the sword never encountered automatic weapons."
Really???
And thank YOU for being a jackass
Sometimes I wonder if people contemplate what written words mean before they write them.
Now as to fanshots.
I have posted them several times. If one wants to simply post an article, a video, an image then they are so great. They don’t require analysis or extra verbage.
Just click on “new fanshot”. Then select either a “link”, “image”, or “video”
Put in the URL and then quickly describe what it is. Basically a title.
I have posted several but it is obvious from the comments that few read them. I would suggest that the Administrators start using them if they want others to do the same. Maybe put up a fanpost or article on “how to use the site” once in a while.
Constructive actions always mean more than hurting words.
And really people. If someone is giving a little constructive criticism we don’t have to go crazy over it.

that comment
was after his initial comment after Loki called him a douche. I thought his original comment was fair and a fairly nice way of letting people know how the site is SUPPOSED to be used.
So its OK to bash if its a second comment?
Or if its in response to a very bashing comment.
Or if you say you didn’t think using the term Jackass was bashing?
Ted does a great job and I have no issue with his writing. But all of us make mistakes. When someone at the top does something inappropriate that conduct tends to filter down and permeate a site.
Ted sure would have been more effective in getting his point across if he had entitled it " Nice Post". " I liked the message"
Then maybe give a little tutorial as to how the fan base could use the fanshot portion of the site. Then explain that the Administrators were going to use them more so everybody be looking for it. And hey we might even take the users advice and see about moving those fanshots up on the home page.
Now how could anyone be upset with that approach. Positive, clean, and educational. Sounds like a better approach for management to take to me. But what do I know I’m just a jackass trying to support the Vikings.

Well said
You do take a very positive approach on this. And, since we’re dealing with fans with a similar interest & goal (Supporting the MN Vikings, and reading up about them), the last thing we want to do is create an uprift among us.
One thing we always need to keep in mind when reading peoples thoughts/comments. We are unable to read into peoples emotions when it is a straight text. Someone could easily be giving a sarcastic comment that could easily be taken seriously. Joking around is the #1 thing that can confuse people. We must learn that if someone seems upset, they may not indeed really be upset. We take the words so literal.
Hi , pal ...

Albeit a little redundant after the first comment on the thread said the same thing
If you want to have community involvement on this site, you probably shouldn’t raze posters….twice…..when they try to contribute

But an apology for the "douche" language wouldn't hurt either Loki.
After all that was the first poor language salvo over the deck.
Only on a Minnesota website would people be saying “douche and jackass are bad words”. But it is that Midwest kind of wholesomeness that I am so very proud of.

I’ll admit it’s hard to know a person’s tone when writing a meesage, but when I read his message, it didn’t come off the page very well and it felt like a personal attack which made me think he was coming off as a douche; especially this phrase:
“seeing as how you had to type the phrase ‘75 words’ about 72 times to get to the minimum verbage to make it a fanpost.”
by Loki The Viking God on Jul 30, 2010 2:59 PM CDT up reply actions
Is that an apology to Ted for your actions Loki
or are you justifying your actions. Your correct that his words were sarcastic. But I’m asking you. Did you have to react the same way?

Minnesota nice....
We’re all victim to it…. Sometimes, we may easily take out our aggression on others so easily when we’re hiding behind a computer. Very common among the internet world. So easy to speak about whats on your mind whether it be positive or negative when you would very unlikely have to pay any consequences. Now imagine how the world would be if there was no law?

Loki
My original point was not to call you out or bash you, just to clarify the whole fanpost/fanshot thing, and I apologize if it came across that way. I agree that things can get lost in translation, but the ‘72 times’ comment was meant in good fun to point out that if you had made it a fanshot, you wouldn’t have had to have done that.
Yeah, I called you a jackass, but that was a reaction to your other post. Two wrongs don’t make a right, but it is what it is. My bad.
