We all feel that AD is the # one. All hail to the # one and lets hope that the work on ball handling and uses more patients at the line. I will predict that AD rush for 1800 yards this year and 400 yards receiving.
The question still comes back to who is #2 and #3 and how would you use them. At 5'10 209 Albert Young is very much in the mode of Chester Taylor. He has picked up the system well over the past two years and seems ready to step up as the third down back. This is such an critical position it really needs to be solidified in preseason. A couple of dropped passes and missed blocks on third down can change a game. If he does not really shine in preseason I would prefer to see AD in on 3rd down. With Albert and TG spelling him in the first two downs.
Toby Gerhart seems to be having just a little difficulty, and is trailing AY in the performance so far. There is time left and as said before there are four games to really show their stuff. Being that there is a big difference in the styles of AY and TG there may not be as big a competition as it may seem. I would like to see TG in on first down more often then any other down. A big back pounding the D early in the downs say every third set of downs with AY trading in when AD needs a brake.
So back to the pre prediction for rushing yards. AD gets 1800 AY gets 200 and TG gets 200 this increases our total yards for the season from 1918 last year for 2200 this year, should move us up around 5th in the league in rushing.
This puts AY as the second back, but uses TG in special situations, with them combined gaining more yards then Chester did last year. AD gets more yards and has more receiving yards being used on third downs more.
Skol Vikings, can't wait to watch the game preseason or no.
