Ladies and Gentlemen, we got him. Favre is reportedly on his way back to Minnesota, after a visit by Hutch, Jared Allen, and Ryan Longwell.

Our long national nightmare is now over.

Update: Tedy Bruschi is kind of a douche about it all, too. WAAAAAA!! WAAAAA!! Blueprint is to illegally hit! WAAAAAAA!!

For all the "Complainers"

I find Favre’s ‘waffling’ sort of fun.. It’s like watching a movie… We all have an idea on how it will play out, generally ending with a happy ending….. etc. etc. We just do not know what the road will be like to that happy ending..

In this particular case, we do not know where, how, or when favre will return, but we know the happy ending is him returning…

But this is only part 1… Part two, needs to play out with us in Dallas… Coming away w/ a Victory!

I find that offensive, sorry.

I know everyone here loves football, but saying “who really cares what happened to them” is just a stupid, ignorant thing to say, and the only reason you say is it because you want to beat the Saints. That’s fine, but please don’t disparage the city of New Orleans. Yeah, shit happens everywhere, but you didn’t hear me say anything bad about Colfax, Iowa. Just because you yourself weren’t in that situation yourself doesn’t mean you get to pretend it didn’t happen.

Natural disasters happen every where. And yeah they suck

No one is arguing that. However when the mississippi flooded out (as it does every couple of years or so) my uncle lost just about everything. Many people from the town lost it all. As it was flood damage most of them didn’t have insurance that covered it. FEMA came out to help which was pathetically slow and nto very helpful. He never did get back his house, or precious items. Basically that whole section of his life is just gone. I think it made about 10 minutes on the news?

Unfortunately we don't have any choice

Through crappy coaching we don’t have a back up QB. We have TJ, who many have pinned a lot of hope on, but honestly if we want a chance at a deep run in the play offs Favre is pretty much our only option. We could have done many things in this offseason (hire McNabb) but we didn’t so now we are bent over the Favre barrel. Am I glad he’s playing again? Sure, do I like what he’s doing? Not so much.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Grime on Aug 18, 2010 7:46 AM CDT up reply actions

What is he doing that you don't approve of, Grime?

Wanting to make sure his ankle is healed enough to allow him to play a full season? As a Vikes fan you should appreciate this. He just wants to make sure he can be all in.

by KC612 on Aug 18, 2010 8:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Actually, I dont' like how he did it.

And you can castigate me if you want, but it is my opinion. I understand he is flighty. I recognize that. Hell I know people like that, doesn’t mean I like it when they do it though. He needed to make a decision and honestly he had a lot of people depending on it. Many people stated that he could come back whenever he wanted to. He didn’t do anything because he wanted to chill out at his house instead of heading up to Mankato. Now realistically if he had said he was in a month ago and gone to camp how much do you think he’d have to actually do in camp?

I’m glad he’s playing but I’m not exactly thilled how he’s acting. And I really don’t like the fact that we have no recourse to this buy TJ.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Grime on Aug 19, 2010 7:58 AM CDT up reply actions

Agree with you about Favre.

I don’t care that he missed camp but it would’ve been nice to hear an answer earlier. Something along the line of “I’ll come back and play as long as my ankle rehab goes well.” That would’ve given him an easy out and avoided almost all of the media hoopla and helped his waffling image quite a bit too. Anyway, it’s a moot point now as he’s back and you don’t have to worry about TJ being anything other than a solid backup for us until next year : )

Yawn...

Am I the only one who barely considers this newsworthy? Assuming today’s Favre scoop is more accurate than this prior one: http://www.dailynorseman.com/2010/8/3/1602765/breaking-news-favre-calling-it#comments

I’m not indifferent about the fact that Favre will be playing QB for the Vikings this season; that is good news. Rather, I’m unsurprised that Favre strung it out until now. I thought he would wait another week, but otherwise I expected this to happen.

He avoided training camp and two-a-days, he avoided the first meaningless pre-season game, and he probably got a whole lot more money from the Vikings. Good for Favre. He also got a lot of media attention, which, let’s face it, is mother’s milk to Favre.

Unlike last year, where I wrongly thought Favre would bring all kinds of problems to the Vikings, I am glad he is (apparently) coming back to Minnesota this season.

Like last year, I am glad I didn’t get too deeply wrapped up in the Annual Favre Summer Drama.

I would of gone believing “everything” said, when in-deed it was not true.
Thankfully, SBNation (actually the DailyNorseman) reminded me that it was too early to tell.. And they pointed out there was no clear sources, names, etc at the given time.

So, in theory, it sounded like a lie to start a story. Didn’t it happen on a Tuesday? I swear, the most controversial stories happen on Tuesdays….. The one’s that seem maybe not true….. School must start soon for Brett’s youngest daughter . It’s good to see he will have her there for her first day of class . I certainly hope she doesn’t kick and scream as bad as Dad . Wins before losses, my friend. There is a reason they classify a undefeated season as 16-0 and not 0-16. So a 1-0 record after leaving N’awlins would mean that the Saints did not win. They have been recording wins and losses like this for a long time. In lots of different sports.

Let’s flip this around, and say Tom Brady were waffling about coming back while TB was playing. Would Bruschi go to Brady’s house and ask him to come back if that was all it took, and increased your chances from winning a SB from 25-1 to 4-1?

Yeah, he would. And he’d drive. And according to Bruschi GB is ‘the class’ of the NFC North? Really? Really?

P-2 SF Brett will sit and pick the lint out of his belly button.
P-3 SEA Brett Vs. SEA About three quarters . Deep balls and draw plays galore .
P-4 DEN Brett will sit and scratch his butt .
W#1 NO Brees has much more to fear from the Vikings front four than us with theirs . The loss of Sharper will be bigger than even I am willing to believe .
W#2 MIA Henne can’t handle that " D " . . Or the noise !
W#3DET This is the one we need to worry about ? Best will be saying , "Wow I could have been wearing Purple ! " .
W#4 BYE
W#5 NYJ The perfect way to get ready for Rex and his sputtering " O " . A lot of AP and Toby in this one .
W#6 DAL Short week . Will they go after Brett again ? Not if they want a chance to win .
W#7 GB Right around Brett’s birthday . How many of my Pack friends will claim they shut it off at half time again ? 555
W#8 NE on Fox . At Fox . Brett will have his way with that young " D " . A Moss trade in 2011 could be just enough to bring Brett back one more time ?
W#9 ARI Midway point . A downhill ride to destiny ? No Kurt . Lienart will hurt ! Ouch . Defense will steal the show .
W#10 At CHI . For some reason Goodell wouldn’t make this a night game ? I wonder why Jay ?
W#11 GB . Noon at Home . Sounds as boring a game as ever . Right ? Aaron Rodgers legacy will be determined in this game . This will be their knock out punch .
Instead of last years wakeup call .
W#12 WAS . It could be one of our toughest games . Where is McNabb next summer ?
W#13 BUF We get them in the dome in DEC . Enough said .
W#14 NYG Did you see their lack of Offense in that pre-season game . Eli’s 12 stitches . We will be fine .
W#15 CHI on MNF . If we could turn down the dimmer switch it would be a blow out . Peppers ?
W#16 PHI . Kolb will be beaten by then . We suck in the cold . EVEN .
W#17 DET on FOX at Noon . Can we beat out CHI at GB for the game of the week . Why ? Brett can rest on the bench .
*
I like how our schedule spreads it self out to accomidate the ESPN circus known as Brett’s Waffling . Why didn’t we see GB in week #5 ? GB still gets the props . But I will embrace the underdog role everytime . 34-7 last time if I can recall . Fresh legs is the key to start the year . Brad gave us that with this years mysterious injuries . The lack of injuries will be key after the Bye Week . If all is good after Halloween night ? Watch out ! The Force will be with us . And the Rebels will have a free run . All the way to Dallas"s Death star .

We (at WCG) realize it, but there have been some requests...

…to confine the Favre talk to the Daily Norseman, partly so it’s all conveniently located in one spot, and partly because some people request relief from endless speculation about another team’s player (fair enough).

I think the “will he or won’t he?” stuff belongs here, and when all the dust settles, a “what does this mean for the Bears?” discussion will be appropriate there.

That said, personally, I am desperate for every morsel of Favre gossip, so here I am at Daily Norseman.

Good Points

I realize there really is no need for much Favre talk over there.
As long as any Bear fan is aware of it, probably all that matters.

It would be like, if Jay Cutler were to get injured.. Some of us would talk about it, but it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. If you signed a HOF QB, we would potentially have a little more fear.. But we would embrace the game in hoping we would become the victors!

I genuinely am not familiar with the incident you’re talking about. I’m sorry if someone at WCG chased you down to DN and gave you crap for something you said here (which is what I think you’re saying??). The only warnings you should receive here are from DN editors, IMHO.

I’d like to hope we all have enough sense of humor for some good-natured smack talk. (Although I’ve seen enough out-of-control deathwish stuff on SB Nation to know it’s not universal.)

by juperee on Aug 17, 2010 8:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Someone ? It was three Editors all at once . Two I never heard of before .

My real point is ….. Amimosity works in the off-season . But during the regular season we at DN want to hear other opposing team views and opinions . But constant bashing and seperate rules for regulars and the enemy is not professional . And makes the trip to other sites un appealing . I went to Canal today and razzed a bit . They saw it as humor . A confident winning program can feel confident . Why does the lack of success have to limit those team sites ability to interact with others . We are not children here as a whole . Why have childish rules held down by childish Editors .
When I came to DN I criticized this site to hell and back . Then some of the wise words of Grimes , LLV and even 555 showed the darker side to the issues . So many dedicated and passionate fans have to learn to tolerate the bullying ways and CLICKSTER mentality on there own sites as well as opposing ones . Sad .
Yes the death stuff can’t be tolerated in a time when our Great Country is at war . We at DN respect that part of Gonzo’s life . And embrace his values and firm views on the subject . I hope that most would give an Amen on that point . It isn’t a perfect world . And all successful sites have to deal with their ghettos like APC and WCG . I have hope for the Bears . The teams they upset can change the playoff picture for us . Just as their split with us killed are ability to control our destiny last year . Cutler will be good . Did you catch his Peyton-like happy feet during his two passes in SD . With an improved OL he will be good . They need to draft OL next year to secure his future .

by gothicpurple on Aug 17, 2010 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks for the civil explanation.

I guess you must have hit a nerve with whatever you were talking about that day. Sometimes sarcasm and razzing is lost in black and white text.

And you’re absolutely right about our O-line. But I’m pretty sure we’ll manage to give away our draft picks for over-the-hill Orlando Pace types again prior to the draft. It’s tradition now.

My brother

Who works part-time in a higher-end restaurant that will occasionally cater to players… Has heard and talked to players and got the sense that Favre was returning.. His statement was, that the media was to blame for most of the stuff we hear…. But, he said you could tell the certainty in the players expressions of his return, but… never out-right said it.. Like there was a gag-order on the issue or something… Who knows…

That and

Whenever the people at WCG start talking about Favre, they tend to morph into whining crybaby douchenozzles.

Then again, that happens when they talk about the Vikings in general, too.

They develope a short fuse when the subject turns to Brett’s Vikings . Or . So how does Aaron Rodgers out perform Brett in any category but age ?

Bruschi is a clown !!!

Remember every year the Patriots fell apart . They got on the phone and begged Teddy to play . And play hurt if necessary . Wow . He has the nerve to question three guys who are allowed to skip camp to fly out on a private jet to escourt their Captain back . All Bruschi can say is to hit him with or without the ball . The NFL has that goal in theory every year . If Teddy is so good maybe he should strap on the pads for week #8 . ESPN and the East Coast love to love themselves . The dominating O & D that the Vikes demonstrated in New Orleans gives a lot more playing film then a few late hits , cheap shots and poor officiating .
Let’s hope that the real class act in New Orleans this year is a vastly improved Officiatng Crew . Why do we have instant replay if they aren’t going to watch the replay . I hope GB gets Dallas in the playoffs . Then they canexperience the Roger Godell shuffle . Instead it will be GB in New Orleans . And 555 will be taking the day off again as usual . Unless by some miracle . Oh wait only Pack diehards think crazy ???

Sorry for the added near profanities .

I just wish we could have a open mike session at APC or WGN without all this animosity . You need to create a joint feed that taps into all four of the North teams site . You could have one Editor (level headed one ) that can police the event . Preferably before any matchups and after all have faced each other once . It would go down in the SB history as my second best idea next to Gonzo and myself going in on a Wafflehead in Gold & Gold and blueberry !! What do you think Gonzo ????

Gunning for Favre and hate for a 12-4 team

Also, Iam worried about favre and pass protection after Saints hit favre with so many cheap shot.. I am worried that everybody will be gunning after favre. If they do that, Loadholt, Mckinnie better give some cheapshots as well to the opposing defense.. shhitt when we play the saints I want to see the o-line dive at their knees, elbow them in face if they take cheapshots with favre.

Bruschi said that the blueprint to beat favre, illegal low hits

Madden Curse, lets end Brees career early, I want to see some rotator cuff surgery, the new chad pennington.

I cant beleive all the hate thats coming from everywhere its ridiculous. The organization stooping so low for a player, vikings are gonna be a wildcard team, green bay is amazing. favre can’t last a whole season.

it Seems like everyteam is better than us…i cant wait its just gonna be like the dallas game, were make em put up and shut up

Its do or die lets do this

by Jazib Ahmed on Aug 17, 2010 8:28 PM CDT reply actions

Hog Wash !!!!!!

Brett had great protection in all but two games . Peppers was Brad’s fault . New Orleans was the officials and illegal hits and cheap shots the officials chose not to stop . We will be fine . A power run attack will help with that issue . Bienemy has been given the greenlight to up the carries this year . Watch and learn in the first half of the season .

by gothicpurple on Aug 17, 2010 8:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah the officials probably let alot of those cheap hits go

because not only is it the playoffs, and they wanted to ‘just let them play,’ but it was the NFC CG, which only added to the pressure of wanting the refs to be seen and not heard.

by Frost on Aug 17, 2010 10:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Wouldn't surprise me....

Which would also mean… That I be we see a flag whipping frenzy on Thurs. w/ both sides accountable….

Because everyone knows that they’ll be watching very long & hard at each move, play.

by Deek on Aug 17, 2010 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe we will see

Lets see how much AD has learned from Eric Bienemy. With favre arent we a passing team? I mean just like Brushci said people are just gonna send blitz packages and rough up favre.. lower chances for AD and More oppurtunities to hit favre. Hopefully the refs being in the backfield will be able to negate the hits, with penalties.

Our pass protection is good but if injuries happen, it we will be like the end of last year. Mckinnie had foot problem and hutchinson banged up near the end of the year. We can actually use the N.O. game to actually beat the blitz packages. lots of 3 step drops, pound it out. We will see how we approach the New Orleans Game. Thats gonna the the determinant on how our season goes.

Changing the subject...

when confronted with factual information, is a rather mundane response.

BTW, the color purple has long been associated with royalty for a far longer period of time than Prince has been around. So what color Prince likes is hardly relevant. The "fleur de lis" is also associated with royalty, but of course that association would be limited to the French monarchy. Seems to me that you don’t have much of a point.

I wouldn't worry about Favre getting hit illegally.

I did see a reference to The Longest Yard and could actually see that in week one with the refs getting knocked out one by one. Now, Favre has always taken cheap shots. Most stars do. The Saints are not the first team to do it. Now, alot of you are saying (in essence) that we need to run the ball more and eliminate the shots that Favre takes. Trust me, he will still get hit even if he is handing it off. I mean do you think they would stop just because he is handing off? No, what I see happening is Favre throwing 40 to 50 times and picking that overrated defense apart. After what happened in the NFCCG, the NFL will not be able to take another illegal hit controversy if they want an expanded regular season. If they have defenses playing kamikaze football, more people will get hurt and they can’t risk Brady, Manning, Brees, Favre or any other big name player getting hurt if they want an 18 game season. Just my take on it

by SeanInEauClaireWi on Aug 17, 2010 8:54 PM CDT reply actions

The NFL was embarassed by their poor officiating .

I’m sure warnings were issued after Gregg’s poor decision to claim they would target Brett . Your fans were embarassed on your site for it . And the Country shows it’s view by listing your team as a second place team in your own conference. Third if Smith didn’t break the arm .

Question

Hey saints fan here…..I wanted to say congrats on getting farve back. If I was a vikings fan I would be excited too. I have followed this site since the NFC championship game. many vikings fan say the saints beating the vikings was pure luck and the best team lost. I have watched the game numerous times and I just dont see the “so called” cheap shots you guys are so angry about but understand that I am looking through black and gold glasses. Also if the vikings were the better team why was your ball control so horrible? that is not a characteristic of a good team. If the vikings were the best team why did they lose? I do not mean anything rude and I am trying to start name calling and childish commentry…I truley dont understand the hate…..I am not looking to insult anyone….I really have been wanting to ask this for months…from one fan to another,,,,,i was a victim of Hurrican katrina but I am tired of hearing about it. However people died and it was bad and vikings fan trash new orleans every chance they get….I still respect you guys any way I really hope the vikings win a superbowl so after all Farve is putting you through…..

by blackandgoldbuddha on Aug 18, 2010 2:06 AM CDT reply actions

Answers

Favre was hit late numerous times in the game which is part of the game in my opinion. If I recall correctly two hits were flagged as unnecessary roughness and the most blatant late hit was a high-low hit that the NFL admitted should have been flagged and resulted in Favre’s first interception. That last hit also sent Favre to the sideline and hampered him for the rest of the game. Add in some of Gregg Williams and Sharper’s later comments about targeting Favre and other QBs and those hits become deliberate acts rather than just part of the game. Perhaps if Saints players and coaches kept their mouths shut they would’ve avoided the “cheap shot” label.

You are correct that our ball protection was incredibly bad and uncharacteristic of how the team played all year. The reasons most of believe the Vikings were a better team is that we made it to OT despite 5 turnovers and moved the ball at will against your defense. Also the OT period had four or five reviews and two penalties called against our defense. Obviously every call the refs made in OT wasn’t wrong but several could easily have gone our way but none did. I’m not saying the refs gave you the game but OT was poorly officiated to the point that the NFL decided to change it’s own rules.

I won’t trash New Orleans or it’s people but sometimes trash-talk devolves to petty insults when sports are involved. This is stupid behavior from any fans. The Saints are a good team but the Vikings stupid mistakes combined with some poor reffing had more to do with the outcome of the game than anything the Saints did. Basically we were the more talented team but the Saints avoided the big mistakes and got some favorable calls. Your team won but it’s pretty easy to see that there were multiple times in the game where we threw away points that would have made the outcome different.

by cali viking on Aug 18, 2010 10:20 AM CDT up reply actions

There is no Saints/Vikings rivalry--or at best it is week 1 and then,

if both teams match-up again in playoffs, so, all the hate is very unnecessary; our players/fans need to save it for the Panthers/Falcons/Bucs and your players/fans need to save it for the Packers/Bears/Lions. I’m a Saints fan and a Farve fan, so I hope The Saints win any games against Vikings, but hope Farve plays well. The past is the past—our win last year is the same as the (44 – 10) thumping y’all put on us back in 87— and in Week 1, the best team will win as the best team always wins—if we cannot win it all, I hope you can. I hate The Packers, so, please put a hurting on AR (mouthy young punk) and sweep them again and beat them again if you see them in playoffs.
