Brett Favre Press Conference Open Thread
The Favre presser for today is set to kick off at 1:30 PM Central time. That's approximately two hours from now. I'm not sure which networks will broadcast it. . .maybe ESPN (you know, with as much as they hate to cover and talk about Brett Favre), maybe NFL Network, maybe some local stations in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. I'm sure that the Twin Cities' sports radio stations (1130 KFAN and 1500 ESPN) will have it, too.
Feel free to discuss the goings on here, ladies and gentlemen!

Phew
I thought that I was very certain he’d come back, but I just realized I’ve been holding my breath for about three weeks now. My pants are now fitting a lil’ tighter
(because of the held in breath… I’m not that into the Vikes, pervs).

I feel the same way I did last year...
… when Favre joined the Vikes. I little uncertain, but hopeful. Most of all, I knew then and I know now that this year will be INTERESTING.
There is no way Vikings football will be a bore or not competitive this year. It’s going to be a blast.

Hell Freezes Over
I don’t care if it freezes in San Antonio,
Texas tomorrow. If Brett and the team can win a Super Bowl this year it will be the crown on the 50 years that I have followed the Vikings. My Dad, brother and I listened faithfully every Sunday since 1961 on the radio after sitting in duck blinds or walking corn rows and sloughs hunting either ducks and later pheasants. I want a Championship for the Vikings and I want them to ALWAYS be the MINNESOTA Vikings!

Win or lose.
It will be a hell of a lot of fun.
by Jepp The Viking on Aug 18, 2010 12:04 PM CDT reply actions
Exactly..
That’s what Favre brings to the table…
Win or lose, you know your always somewhat in the game.
Win or lose, you know the season will be exciting..
We may never feel like we’re going into a game and not going to win. Even if we have a rough start.
However, our mindsets with T-jack would be different if put into the same scenario.
one of the main reasons that I was awaiting his return. Secondly, I believe the offense will play better as he comes back. Let’s just hope the O-line keeps him up-right.
ESBN has been advertising it too.

Favre: It's rare to ever see a QB be so indecisive, waffle...
It's also unlikely to have one start 19 consecutive seasons.
The Summit
I believe that was the Vikings showing their strength. They sent what amounts to the captains from the offense, defense and special teams, who also happen to be Favre’s closest friends on the Vikings, and they said, listen, we could have something great. If you come back with us, it’s going to be fantastic. If you don’t, we hope you have a great retirement, it was a great year, thanks for the memories. What more could you ask from your benchmark players? The organization sent their flagbearers, and they’ll still be the flagbearers long after Favre hangs ’em up.

Will probably play a series or 2 in game 4?

Last Year
Played a series in Game #2 against the Chiefs.
Played quite a bit in Game #3 against the Texans.
Didn’t play at all in Game #4.

Quick Sum-up
Last year of his contract so this is the last year he wants to play. He’s doing it for his team this time, not for him. He’s happy to be a grandfather. He wants to go out on top, but he’s alright if they don’t make it all the way this year, though it’s preferred. He was hoping for a miracle heal with his ankle like with his shoulder, but it didn’t happen and he worries if he’ll hold up along the line.
There you go.
"Once again the trousers of evil are yanked down by the mocking hands of justice!"-Revshawn
Here is how I read what he really means..
He doesn’t want to come off as selfish, but he was torn between fans, teammates, and coaches begging for him to come back versus family and being a grandfather. He wants to go out on top, but he is nervous he may not have as great of a season (he may feel the schedule is a bit tougher). His ankle may be the excuse to fall back on when he doesn’t do that well, but, in reality, it will probably be just him having a bad game.
I know that there was mention of how his ankle seemed fine when the trio went down to visit, but, it was more-so the personal issues that made him ponder on returning. I think he was literally on the ledge where 1 small thing would push him one way or another. He has a strong desire to play, but he also believe that he will eventually have to give it up. If this is truly his last year, I hope every teammate gives 110% to make the best of it. Because when he hangs it up, the NFL will get a little bit more boring to watch.
I for one, am hoping for a magical season again.. Only this time, I don’t want to be disappointed.. I know as a Vikings fan we have our share of disappointments… I sure hope Favre told Hutch, you better get that damn O-line to protect me……… Or I’ll slap your behind so hard that’ll sting for weeks.
He went through all the motions of returning, surgery, practicing throwing the ball in Hattisburgh, doctor visits, etc. etc. I am quite sure he probably wanted to play, but…. He just didn’t want to show up… I think having the players visit him was just enough of a reason to go back and give it 1 more shot. I actualy truly believe this will probably be his last year…
So we should all cherish each game he plays as a Viking…. And hope to go out on top.

And even if Favre has an average season..
..or even a below average season, it’s still better than T-Copter.
If Peterson explodes this season...
as he should, Favre need only to have an “average-Favre” season to keep us in contention for the SB.
But here’s to a bangin’ Favre season. Let’s be the top offense once again!
I'm still a Minnesotan at heart...
Sounds like the typical Libra :)
Great player who loves the game—I’m a fan and glad he is back. Others want attention and try to create it if it is not coming their way, but attention just follows Brett because of both how he plays the game and his love for the game—the indecision the last few years is part of this (for great players who love to play, it is hard to stop playing). But, when it is all over, I do not see Brett starting a reality show and tying to stay in the spotlight in some lame way—it was always about football. If the Saints cannot win it all, I hope y’all can—and I hope you sweep the Packers again and beat them if you see them again in playoffs.

Brett Favre: “They were saying that in December I was gonna struggle, and in December I played my best football”
To my recollection we went 1-3 During December last year. Nice memory Brett.
Yeah, but that wasn't Favre
Sure, he started out rough at first. December was when he started getting his Ints finally. But if you want to lay the blame for the 1-3 record on anyone, put it on the secondary. They’re the ones who let Cutler throw 4 TD passes. They’re the ones who collapsed in the 4th quarter in Carolina. They certainly weren’t helping the team any by doing that. Favre at least put up a decent statline that month.
Our O Line was terrible as well
Plus we played a lot of games on grass at the end there I think we were 1-3 on grass fields last year as well.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Congrats on your boy coming home
I personally think he made the wrong decision………………….He is the George Blana of our current times but the game is a lot faster now than it was then. Hard to keep up at 41 but I will admit that without him you Vikes are vanilla.
I am looking forward to Aug.9 to see how he responds to my Saints defense. Will he be tenative? Will he be cautious? Will he be slow? Will he be rusty? Or, will he be scared? My best guess would be the latter due to it being the first game of the season with the possibility of never playing another game. I personally wish for a hard fought game and a healthy Favre at the end and a Saints win to resolve all the issues from the last contest. Good luck from St-Sly and hope your season is successfull after 8-9-10. Till we meet again………….

They said that in San Diego when Brees blew out the shoulder . Where would you be if he hadn't come back from surgery . Oh how you forget the past so soon . Just like Brett . If he gets 4000yrds in2010 . He has an even easier schedule next year !!!

Where did he go anyway . ESPN needs to get a life . Brett humbled the ESPN fellas by going to bed and not addressing the Media . They seem to have changed their toon . I see Bruschi was given the mst important day in football off . Fitting . Do you think his hit him low comment upset Goodell a bit . Especially after the poorly officiated game last year .
Screw ESPN
None of the national sports media ever have anything positive to say about the Vikings or the Twins. I expect them to put a negative spin on anything related to Minnesota professional sports. They love Green Bay and New England in football and New York and Boston in baseball so we can always turn to the Daily Norseman for our football news and KFAN or WCCO for baseball. I love the internet.

I was laughing so hard my husband came in the office to see what I was doing. Love the bit about Favre talking around the subject 360 degrees, e.g. hunting starting with shotgun, bow hunting, and ending with being a vegan.
Chilly may be dubious in the play calling department, but he is a personnel genius.

As a Packer fan, if the Packers do not do it, then I hope Favre wins it all. This is his final shot (if you believe him-I do). Good luck.
Not to be cruel . But which North opponent won't lose a coach over this guy .
McCarthy is in his fifth year . He did promise a five year plan . Capers may pressure to coach or vacate .
Lovie has had half his foot out the door for awhile now .

SB or bust...
That is what a lot of people are saying for the Packers and Vikings. I’m not sure if it is that bad for the Packers. They are a younger team after all. If they can’t quite make it this year, then I will not completely fall apart over it. I will be disappointed, but how many years has it been since the last one? Every year has been a disappointment. I think the urgency for the Vikings is greater right now. I’m not a fan of TT. Yet I am still a Packers fan. I’ll always like Favre. So if the Packers can’t make it, then I’ll be happy to see Favre get his last shot at a trophy. I said it last year. If what you write is true and that the Packers lose coaches (which I doubt—but would rather be delighted to see TT go), then so be it. I’ll be a Packers fan regardless of what happens. We all have our favorite teams and players.
They are not younger . Especially in multiple key positions .
Clifton/Tauscher
Harris/Woodson
There DE’s are all gone .
There OLB’s are all but gone .
There great OG’s are gone too.
Longwell , well he just got back from Hattiesburg ?
Where’s the great RB depth of the past ?
They use to say they had the deeepest WR corp in all the NFL . What happened ? BF
Some have gone and not been replaced . Other key positios are going to be hard to fill . Especially with a talented QB that learned from the best ? How to choke in big games ! I tell it as I see it !!!

now just what exactly are you suggesting?
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
From what i heard from his statement
With his ankle still not 100%, the development of a new bone spur in it, and the fact it has been this far along since his surgery and he is still having discomfort from it, i just don’t see him getting all the way through.
Granted, on the other hand, he is a tough SOB so i can see him pushing through it. Would be a hell of a stat at the end of a career. I can guarantee he won’t let Chilly stop him from starting if he is able to (even if it is a meaningless game later on after a playoff spot is secured).
Football is easy if you're crazy as hell
yea, i was just teasing you a little...
i hope that when he is nicked up, that we put in t-jack to rest him. and if he gets a case of the picks, that we put in t-jack to spell him. and if he gets a case of the holier than thou, that he gets a good spanking.
i personally don’t care about his “streak”. i’d like him to be healthy, especially in the play-offs. so if he gets relief for a few games during the year, and his streak ends, then so what (as long as it is not serious or season-ending).
but, we know that he won’t get rocked by the saints again. cuz heads would roll, and i think we got the league on our side this time to call a pretty tight game.
three weeks from today !!!
