The injury bug has struck the Viking's receiving corps.
Percy Harvin's migraines have him trying to get back into game shape after missing most of training camp. Chances are he will miss significant time this year, maybe the whole year, as he searches to get his migraines under some semblance of control.
Sidney Rice sustained a hip injury in the NFC Championship game. He declined surgery. He has been unable to participate in training camp very much. I think it's likely he will miss the first game of the season, and perhaps half or more of the season.
Jaymar Johnson sustained a thumb injury in practice, which will require surgery. He will probably end up on the PUP list at best.
Last year, Bernard Berrian struggled with a pair of hamstring pulls. Fortunately, he seems as healthy as ever now.
If the season started today, our receivers would probably be: Berrian, Greg Lewis, Logan Payne, Marko Mitchell, and Taye Biddle. Three have almost no NFL experience. It is conceivable that Adrian Peterson and Visanthe Shiancoe would be forced into duty as wide receivers.
As suggested by somebody on Rube Chat, trading for Randy Moss would be a rather interesting course of action.
Another possibility is Robert Ferguson, who has signed with the UFL. He is not very fast but he has good hands.
This year, some of the underrated prospects at WR were Ryan Wolfe (Atlanta Falcons), Blair White (Indianapolis Colts), Chris McGaha (Jacksonville Jaguars), and Duke Calhoun (NY Giants). The Vikings might want to watch the waiver wire for some other promising receiver.
Additionally, Mico McSwain is not currently with an NFL team. He is a talented speedster with character from North Alabama. I think the Vikings should work him out.
