Rice to have surgery

Guess thats why we signed Walker, been trying backtrack where I read it, evidently Rice visited 3 Docs 2 said he should have the Surgery then.Vikes supposed to have set up 4th Doc,and Rice might be out for a bit of the Season.I am hoping theres no truth to this but if so Walker might get half a seasons work.Hopefully Favre and Walker has worked out the Schism between them and has a productive year in Purple.Wouldnt that be a hoot, beat them with their castoff QB,FG kicker and now Leftover WR they traded away.

Time for BB to step up

I know he was bothered by hamstring issues last year but hopefully that’s behind him. Get well soon Sidney we will need you later in the season.

Ok here's my freaken question

how the HELL is this a suprise? Why wasn’t this crap put up and dealt with months ago? Childress needs more control of his players. There is no way this kind of thing should be waited on until two weeks before the season.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Grime on Aug 24, 2010 8:45 AM CDT reply actions

I don't think this is on Chilly

Rice had two different specialists tell him he should have surgery back during spring minicamps, but refused and said he’d play through it. He obviously lost on that gamble, but hiindsight is 20/20. No one can force the man to go under the knife.

by TEXVIKE on Aug 24, 2010 9:07 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

I agree and no one but Rice knows what the complete story is on this injury but this situation has had a bad odor about it from the beginning. It is insulting that players have one good season and then want to renegotiate contracts. I am not saying that is necessarily the case here but something is not right about it. It is insulting when $550,000 is not enough money with so many Americans out of work; they would desperately love to earn one tenth of that money in a year. I understand the length of a professional football player’s career and the need to be paid high salaries for the short time they play but just man-up; Sidney and his agent negotiated this contract and should live up to it. All professional athletes should live up to the agreements they make. I hope he heals quickly but this decision on his part takes him out of any big money next year based upon his “performance” this year.

by TexasViking on Aug 24, 2010 11:34 AM CDT up reply actions

Well, I'm not so upset with him not being satisfied with 550, 000

I mean, honestly, everybody pulls the “Oh, athletes are so spoiled! They make so much!” but they aren’t just payed to play the game. You can consider them entertainers. They have to put long hours into honing their craft to earn those contracts even.

What I’m not happy about, however, is Rice trying to say he deserves a better contract after just ONE YEAR of good play. I mean, looking at it, every year he’s been injured now, except his rookie season.

by Frost on Aug 24, 2010 6:15 PM CDT up reply actions

berrian has already been paid nearly $16 million for his first two seasons with the team...

in that time frame, sidney rice was paid $2.5 million…and he’s pro bowler in a contract year.

i would want to get a deal done and get my payday.

in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.

by jethrophet on Aug 24, 2010 6:54 PM CDT up reply actions

He's a probowler after one season

He’s had one good season, and two ‘Meh’ seasons. Berrian’s at least had some solid years before the contract, and then the year we got him. Last year he was just hurt.

by Frost on Aug 24, 2010 7:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Berrian

Last year he got injured running in a straight line, all by himself. That doesn’t exactly create confidence

Ya

I remember that… Haven’t been to fond of him since, but he’s the only reliable, prozen, veteran threat we have.

by Deek on Aug 25, 2010 11:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Well he had it and it went well he says.

Received short text from Sidney Rice confirming he had hip surgery. Rice said it ‘went well.’

Who else is pissed off at him? 2 of 3 DRs said to have surg in the offseason. Now he’s out half the year.

by skipfreely on Aug 24, 2010 9:14 AM CDT reply actions

If all else fails blame the coach

Who knows whats going on RIce fuckked up, this season is on the line and we cannot get behind, we have to win the north to have a shot at the superbowl. We have a tough schedule early on, harvin berrian have to step up and rely on Peterson all day.

by eltwentyone on Aug 24, 2010 9:38 AM CDT reply actions

If Rice is really out half the season!

The Vikes are toast! Are schedule it BRUTAL! Its all or nothing this year! TRADE for Vincent Jackson, I don’t care if we gotta give up a 1st next year. WIN NOW- We should get VINCENT!

by The Fantasy Guru on Aug 24, 2010 9:52 AM CDT reply actions

Oh Yea there will not be Football next year!

Know one wants to believe this but there’s a real good chance there won’t be football next year! Tony Dungy said he beleives there won’t be and all signs point to this being a reality! WIN THIS YEAR!!!!! Favre is done after this season and this is are chance- what good is a 1st- 2nd rounder next year when there is not gonna be football.

by The Fantasy Guru on Aug 24, 2010 10:22 AM CDT reply actions

On a positive note...

It’s a good sign that Tony Dungy says there won’t be football next season. He’s been wrong on every other mot*#@rfu*#iing thing he’s said in the past year. At least, that’s what Rex Ryan f*#king said.

It's kind of late but...

We did draft Joe Webb as a receiver did we not? I realize he has shown us some promise under center during OTA’s, mini camp and training camp, but in light of Rice’s surgery should we not give some thought to throwing him out there and see if we can quickly get him up to speed as a receiver?

He is too talented to hope he will make it through the waiver wire and land on the practice squad. I think this might be a better option than trying to find the cast offs from other teams and hope to create some magic like Favre and Rice did last year.

Ya..

I’ve suggested this over & over & over..
Only to get laughed at..
Which is crazy, since we drafted him as a WR, and how many 6th/7th round QBs go on to be successful. Yes, there have been cases like Brady who are drafted late, or cases like Warner/Romo who go undrafted, but that is besides the point, because they are rare.

I say run him thru as a WR for this year, and groom him for a QB down the road. Let him get familiar w/ the Vikings offense…

by Deek on Aug 24, 2010 11:44 AM CDT up reply actions

I agree Deek Webb is the threat with the hands we need +14

by cali viking on Aug 24, 2010 1:02 PM CDT up reply actions

You got laughed at

because the depth issue wasn’t as serious then as it is now. To illustrate the gravity of our current WR depth issues, I have switched my stance on Webb. It’d be more valuable for him to spend the year at WR for at least this year, and then switch to QB the following season. Unless we trade for Vincent Jackson, at which point I think he should stick to QB.

by Frost on Aug 24, 2010 6:20 PM CDT up reply actions

So Frost your saying there’s a chance!! Ha Ha !!

by cali viking on Aug 24, 2010 6:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Chance of...?

Webb moving to WR? Definitely. Before, it was slimmer, but now that Rice is out half the year, yes. It’s greatly increased.

by Frost on Aug 24, 2010 7:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Nope Frost Chilly just said he’s staying at QB i DONT AGREE WITH THAT!

by cali viking on Aug 24, 2010 10:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Do you believe everything that comes out of Chilly’s mouth? Yet again piss poor management of his players is going to have him scrambling for solutions. Unless of course you can bring in a big bodied receiver with great hands for Sage but that is wishful thinking. Teams know we are in a jam and will jack up the asking price.

That's how I've felt about it all along

Even before Rice’s surgery.

I tried to take a step outside the box and give it a view.
Rice has lingering hip issues (likely a decrease in performance)

Harvin has potential migraine issues (decrease in performance and/or miss a few games)

Bernard – Was injured last year by a hamstring… Could it get pulled just as easily? But as of now he’s our only deep threat

Shank – Our TE threat.

Overall, we’re fortunate to have a QB who spreads the ball around.

I figured having Webb at WR would basically help w/ his speed, leaping ability, and huge hands.. I figured he would be like Rice, maybe even better… But sounds like Childress isn’t going to make that move. That’s too bad, because I don’t see him seeing much field time as a QB… (Sage, being 3rd at the depth charts, never saw a regular season snap last year).

by Deek on Aug 25, 2010 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions

agent?

i am not possitive, but i think that drew rosenhaus is rice’s agent right? is rosenhaus not one of the worst things that has ever happened to the nfl?(imo). i would not be at all surprised if it came to light that it was at his agent’s request that rice would have the surgery. why play for $550k and a chance to get hurt during the season when there is a huge payday on the horizon? maybe the hope is that any prospective suitor will only remember rice’s play from last year, or remember the potential he brings. i know that there is a chance of no football next year, but rice is young enough to be able to sit out that year, and still get a nice contract. it does make one wonder why the fo didn’t even try to redo his contract this offseason.

by indianavikesfan on Aug 24, 2010 9:49 PM CDT reply actions

anyone know what his hip injury was?

..none of the reports state the exact nature of the hip injury and what the surgery was to fix it (other than it was arthroscopic)…being it was performed in colorado, home of the torn labrum surgeries, i’m thinking thats maybe what it was.. but wonder why vikes are so vague??
