Are The Viking's Ready For: "BAYOU 2"

Look this is the preeeeeeeee-season....The pre-season is for teams to get in sync, to find the best player for each starting position in their preparation for the reeeeeeeeeeeeal season...I would much rather have them make their mistake's now then to wait until the real season starts. So for some fans to put so much emphasis on these practice game's is absurd. We already knew what our weakness's were coming out of last season, The offensive line look's pretty offensive right now, but this same unit helped us win 12 games last year. Nobody can tell me that Anthony Herrera is gonna be a big drop off from last year, please....He got beat a ton last season. The starter's are all returning and any team in the league would give their left nut to have our O line. So get reeeeeeal fair weather fan's have some respect for a unit that helped a very good running back gain over 1300 yards not to mention helping a future hall a fame quarterback have one of his best year's ever...( and don't tell me Farve did it by himself, cause he sure didn't have one of his best year's ever with that many other O-line's in his previous 18 season's. The fewest interception's means he had some time to make the right choice's....Come September 9th I think this team will have no problem fielding a team that will be a lot healthier and wiser for the ware. With Henderson back, a healthy Winfield, and a  ton of depth on our D this will be hands down a heck of a lot better then last year's D that showed up in New Orleans for the NFC championship game...If Adrian Peterson finds the handle on the football, and this team stay's fairly healthy, ( The latest new's on Rice sure doesn't help but there are always a few player's that step up and seize a golden opportunity...I've got a good feeling about  this kid Payne with Rice out for the first half of the season he should make the cut... This year's team will be better then last years...12-4 ..... 14 -2 ? They've gotten better by two win's each of the last three years...Sounds like a trend to me...One of those 2 loss's  might be on September 9th although I think the Vikings will have no problem bringing their A game and a big fat chip on their shoulder's to the Super Dome for "THE BAYOU TWO"...........Go Vikes.......

As far as the Season goes ill do what I always do,watch each game,be bummed when they lose ride next week on a high when they win, hope they clinch a spot, root for them, hope for the best.As a fan its all I can do,ill be there next year no matter how this year turns out.

Well said

I to figured this guy as a Saints fan. Maybe Dr Who Dat since he got banned.

Our line looks shaky right now but we don’t have our starting center in. Herrera was fine last week at guard, and DeImperio should keep him on his toes. Peterson looked good I’ve seen him pick up a couple of blitzes so far, Gerhart is catching the ball well and has done a couple of cuts that were respectable. I think he needs to realize that he can’t just easily bull rush people in this league like he used to and is going to have to work on his pile driver shoulder.
Defense is super solid. Rice and Harvin will hurt a lot. Not sure what we’re going to do about that.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

I didn't get the memo.

I would like to think that I write a little more coherently than that.

I have been kind of busy collecting data on an article, plus the banter on here has kind of evolved into childish name calling. Which I admit I got caught up in, hey it was fun but still childish.

I stopped by today to see if anyone had posted Greg Williams’ response to Childress. Which appears to be negative, or else we would be back to the name calling…LOL

Have a nice day Grime, I hope to see you over at CSC before the game.

Got to stay positive

The Saints will bring a cocky, invincible attitude left over from the Super Bowl that the Vikes will be able to take advantage of. With payback as motivation, the Vikings will slice up the Saints and feed them to the gators in the swamps.

by JethroBoViking on Aug 24, 2010 9:05 AM CDT reply actions

Just for the record

Sean Payton and Gregg Williams have done a lot to knock that invincible attitude out of the players brains. From what i read, none of the players are taking this upcoming season as anything other than a new season and their goal is to become a dynasty team.

I think we can all agree that Williams is nasty. Payton has been sending messages to the starters that if you don’t play to what we expect you are going to run with the twos.

This isn’t a trash talking comment, i am just saying that i really don’t think that the invincible attitude you mention exists. Time will tell.

For the record, i would be pretty pissed off as a fan if one of my teams marquee WR’s opted against recommended surgery in the offseason only to have it two weeks before the start of the season. Did you guys draft any WR’s? What is your depth like now?

We may have an option with Joe Webb

If the front office decides to use him as a WR, which is what Brett Favre himself is thinking (I think), It could get us by until Rice heals. If it comes to that.

Positive Yes- Reality No

Are schedule this year is Brutal. There is no way we go 14-2! Losing Rice for half the season will Burn more then anyone realizes!

Damn. I guess I'll have to un-psych myself for that Sept 9th game.

Question

Anyone watching the saints in preseason? How are their marquee players holding up? Hows their first squad looking? Their depth? Havent had the opportunity (broadcast tv sucks) to scout them…

by redhearring on Aug 24, 2010 10:53 AM CDT reply actions

Well...

First game we looked off for timing against the Patriots. Second game versus the Texans. Different story. I think you are going to be surprised at how pissed off Reggie is. Seems to be running North and South better than ever.

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2010082156/2010/PRE2/texans@saints/recap#tab:watch

Brees was clicking. Better news was our back-up QB was also looking pretty damn good. Our weakness is on special teams coverage. Looking pretty weak at the moment (but nothing new from last year).

Only issue we have is looking for our third RB for depth. We have lost two candidates in the last little bit (Lynell Hamilton and just recently PJ Hill). We signed Ladell Betts and DeShawn Wynn as potential replacements.

Depth at LB and D-Line is debatable. Mostly LB is a point of debate as SAM and WILL LB’s are still being figured out.

by Grumps on Aug 24, 2010 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions

Well said Grumps

The running game looked powerful. A lot of north and south. The key is for them to stay healthy. And Chase Daniel looked superb! He looked like a clone of Drew brees pretty close.

But we got a ton of penalties and need to clean that up. Most of them were on defense due to careless mistakes.

2 things

1. Everyone knows D wins Games. The Vikings have one of the best and have added to it this year. It’s the aint’s that should be worried because they needed 5 turnovers and the Ref’s to beat the Vikings.

2. The Vikings have Farve and A.P. Any team would want that 1-2 punch. Even if Rice is out, Farve will make the other WR’s better. Teams hate to go up aginst AP. Why do you think they go for the strip instead of trying to tackle him? Because he makes them pay.

So we have a great D, a QB that has seen it all and can make any pass and a RB that is the best in the league. Sounds like a Championship team to me.

One other thing we need to set straight is any self respecting football fan knows the Saints were given the NFC Championship game. Both the Vikings and the refs did everything in their power to make it so. Bad calls are “part of the game” so the Minnesota gets blame but they don’t change the rules of the game for no reason.
Lastly I perdict the Saints and Jets don’t make the play-offs and go back to being the jokes of the league.

by Beowulf73 on Aug 24, 2010 12:28 PM CDT reply actions

Something the Jets don't have.

Is a high powered offense like the Saints. The top 3 NFC teams that can score a ton of points are the Saints, vikings and Packers. Jets will finish 8-8 or maybe 9-7.

Saints vikes and packers will have a tough race for the top 3 seeds. cowboys, maybe. Depends on how they do in December.

Our offense (Saints) clicking as usual. With the run game improving…provided if they stay healthy. Receivers are looking great. But our special teams defense and run stop needs some improvement.

by Jricky70 on Aug 24, 2010 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Somethings the Saints don't have.

Edwards, Williams, Williams and Allen. Its not a law firm but Brees will file an injury case with the NFL after they get done with him. Any way you slice it I will take the Vikings over the Saints. Our D line is better then your O line Our O line is better then your D line, lets see RB’s hell yes. WR’s even without rice Better. LB’s E.J. is back yep. CB’s you might not agree but yep. Special Teams better. The only thing that might be a split are the QB’s. I still take Farve over Brees. Brees will not be able to thread the needle like he did last year. (Look at the film he threw into so many double and triple teams its crazy!)
This is the Year of the Viking. The fairy tale is over! They even gave Minnesota a tougher schedule because they know we are better. I understand Jricky70 you might be the only Saints fan that can read and type but why come here to talk about your inbread team? You will only find distane and the razor edge of a Battle axe.

by Beowulf73 on Aug 24, 2010 4:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I think you underestimate our team greatly.

I am sorry but your comment about how even without Rice your WR’s are better makes you lose a lot of credibility. Bernard Berrian is better than Marques Colston? Greg Lewis better than Robert Meachem or Devery Henderson or even Lance Moore??? Granted Percy is very good. You are entitled to your opinion of course and power to you for that. But you discount our team far to much in my opinion. We havent been ranked a top Offense for the last few years for no reason.

As for Brees not being able to thread the needle. Perhaps you should watch this clip. Brees can put that ball wherever he wants it.

Football is easy if you're crazy as hell

gotta give some cred

now mind you , i suddenly hate the saints even more than gb, BUT i cant say we gave them the nfc champ.. it takes skill and good coaching to be so good on takeaways.. and as for their slightly-dirty defensive tactics? it worked for the raiders for over a decade, so cant really knock it..if frazier ever leaves, i would love to have williams..
BUT..as far as 9/9 opener goes, i think the chip the vikes have will inspire the sometimes-hard-to-inspire ray edwards and hopefully we snap brees in two!

Thanks for the humor Beowulf73

Yes, I’m one of the few that can spell and write. I don’t even have a southern draw, not even close. I always get mistaken for being a New Yorker. I even talk like one lol!

I don’t believe in fairy tales, I prefer reality. God only knows what will happen this season. When you put Brees, Favre,Brady and Manning as top QB’s. They’re all great yes. But different. Favre is the toughest and can take hits like no other QB can. Much like Elway did. Brees and Manning can put up stats like no other. Brees almost broke Marino’s record in 2008. Edwards, Williams, Williams and Allen they’re pretty close to a steal curtain of the Steelers.

And I will agree, our D line needs improvement. Hopefully will improve this season stopping the run.

by Jricky70 on Aug 24, 2010 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, even if you think your rankings are right (which I don’t), there’s a reason they still go out and play the games. On paper, the Vikings look better then a lot of teams, and really have since 2008.

Brees won’t be able to thread the needle anymore? Really? That is quite possibly one of the dumber things I’ve ever read on this site. Is he suddenly going to become an inaccurate passer, despite being probably the most accurate passer in the league the past three-four years? I guess maybe he will but it seems doubtful, especially since you provided no reason for why this drop off in accuracy was going to happen.

by packallday555 on Aug 24, 2010 5:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I don’t know. I just don’t see the Jets being only 8-8 or 9-7 for that matter. It’s not like their the Rams on offense or something. They have probably the best OL in the game, and a couple of good running back’s. The passing game is questionable with Sanchez but they do have the weapons around him. It’ll just come down to how he has (or hasn’t) progressed.

I’m convinced Revis will sign and end his holdout and if he indeed does, they’ll have what will probably easily be the best defense in the league. Having he and Cromartie will allow Ryan to do some creative things on defense. Plus, their getting Kris Jenkins back this season, who is probably one of, if not the best nose tackle’s in the league.

OMG......

Is this a Viking Blog or am i in a hellish nightmare with the cast from Hee Haa and a Cheese head. Brees shmees his number is up. If you want to read “more dumber” things go to the Packer and Saints sites. I know we have most of your good players but packallday555 you should know to come in here and stinking up the place.

by Beowulf73 on Aug 24, 2010 7:21 PM CDT up reply actions

I don’t care if it’s a Vikings blog. If you say something stupid, I’m going to call you on it. Your reasons for Brees all of the sudden declining are nothing more then you simply hoping/wanting him too. I could easily say the same thing for Favre, and if I did do that I’m sure many Vikings fans would call me out on it (because it’d be stupid).

by packallday555 on Aug 24, 2010 7:24 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Dumb and Dumber

The only thing I hate more then a Saints fan is a Packer Fan sticking up for the Saints. pukeallday555 I’m sure you are very football savy. All those years with a large wedge of cheese on your head in your mama’s basement have given you great knowledge. I even think your man-crush on Brees is sweet. However there has been a major shift to D in the NFL and Brees is in the crosshairs of every team. Plus the Saints O-line is less then stellar. (Sorry, maybe you have a crush on them too) Less time = Less accuracy. Those thread the needle are now incompletes or picks. Teams know Brees is the key to the Saints success without him the Saints are right where they always have been with Lions and the Rams. Watch for Brees to get tee’d off on and pray he doesn’t get hit like Farve has because he will wake up at the ER in a body cast and breathing thru a tube.
Why do you think Payton had his team shut their pie holes?? Because he knows if he pisses off the Vikings D they will be out for blood and Brees will be comming off the field in a cart. No Brees = No Playoffs. All I really want to know is are you ready for the Vikings to kick the Packers @$$es two more times this year??

by Beowulf73 on Aug 25, 2010 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Saints O-line less than stellar?

One of the top lines in the league is less than stellar. Please elaborate as i can’t wait to hear this.

Football is easy if you're crazy as hell

by Grumps on Aug 25, 2010 11:49 AM CDT up reply actions

Stellar

Means composed of stars. So when I say less then Stellar it means not composed of stars. Jahri Evans is wonderful but Brees’s quick release is what makes the O-line better then it really is. They are ok run blockers but if they miss a pass block and Brees goes down you will see the line for what it is.

by Beowulf73 on Aug 25, 2010 1:24 PM CDT up reply actions

That "Less Than Stellar" O-Line had a few guys as Pro-Bowl starters

They just didn’t have to play in the Pro-Bowl due to a more serious engagement the following week.

Is Brees all of the sudden going to be getting rid of the ball slower? I doubt it.

The Saints probably have a top 3 OL in the league. It’d appear that someone either isn’t very football savvy or is just a big homer.

Your Vikes will be better than last year…………….Favre looks old and tired and I dont believe he can do it again. He had a great season last year but time is not on his side. He should have chosen to stay home and swing the grandbaby. After watching him get crushed against the 49ers in only four plays, he may want to sit out the first regular season game. Lightning can strike twice and i dont think he’s up to it.

It's the Childress method

Same as last year. I think Favre did three and out against Kansas City? Anyway, Favre was 100% for the night against the 49ers. He couldn’t help the o-line screw up that got him sacked. The real test will be against Seattle. Come back and post after that game and maybe we’ll have something to talk about.

by JethroBoViking on Aug 24, 2010 7:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Favre looks old and tired?

Dude, he’s looked like that since 1998 – but you know when it comes down to it, he’s just a kid having fun out there. He just loves playing football.

Besides, the football gods are probably going to reign down some serious injuries on the Saints in this game to even things out after their shameful strategy of intentionally injuring Brett with late hits in the NFCCG. I’m not saying I’m wishing these catastrophic, season-ending injuries on that pack of dirty cheaters you call the Saints, I’m just saying that what goes around tends to come around, and what gets sowed generally gets reaped.

by princelyfrank on Aug 24, 2010 9:10 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't be so harsh to judge.

The Vikings are no angels when it comes to playing dirty. There are no angels on ANY D-line in the NFL, so the “HOLIER THAN THOU” attitude can be dropped at any time. There were shots on both sides last year.
