Not too long ago I wrote about the idea of trading Bernard Berrian for Vincent Jackson and everyone weighed in with their respective thoughts on whether it would be worth it from all angles. (Just saw after writing other emails and finishing this article someone else posted abotu V. Jackson - apologies about the repeat of info - BTW word has it Vincent can be acquired with a second round pick straight up!).
Hours after reading that our emerging start wide receiver Sidney Rice had hip surgery and can miss up to HALF THE SEASON!! Let alone in what form will he return.....Percy Harvin out indefinitely....I could not help but reminisce about my last post.
Since this leaves us with Bernard Berrian (true starter) and a bunch of receivers that unless you are a true rube are going to say..."Who?"
We just signed Javon "where the heck has he been" Walker to add some depth to WR......just because there are more names on the roster does not mean depth btw
Basically in the last week we have gone from having easily the best 3 rec. you can have to well....Berrian (who has actually looked extremely fresh in Pre-Season).
Yes Brett Favre has a knack for making unknown receivers known, but Berrian also has a knack for well not lasting an entire season.
So back to the story headline..should the Vikings do all that they can to bring in Vincent Jackson?
We can survive the first 3 weeks by leaning on AP and then go into the bye week which would cover Jackson's suspension and then run the whole schedule like there is no tomorrow or just pray that Rice and Harvin will recover quicker than expected (unfortunately with Harvin there is the big unknown).
Don't get me wrong I love what Spielman has been doing the past few years and trust his eye for talent and Marko Mitchell, Logan Payne, Jaymar Johnson and Ray Small have shown some potential in pre-season but that is the thing...it is PRE-SEASON.
Hey for all I know we move Joe Webb to WR and Javon Walker gets "Comeback Player of the Year" award and Harvin and Rice return in time to keep everyone fresh but that just feels a little to much on the wishful thinking side.
Then there is the opposite approach to the problem..if we will have some trouble scoring lets make other teams have a harder time scoring ala signing Darrelle Revis...just a thought - but can you imagine that!!
In my eyes the safe bet is Vincent Jackson in regards to production and respect he will demand from secondarys..but again who am I but a software consultant that wished he had a job for the Vikings.
Check out the survey ladies and gents and either way pray for the speedily recovery of our players no matter who is playing in their place.
Skol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
