Adrian Peterson
Super Bowl Bound!
My head is spinning with all the WR drama...Got me thinking......We totally have Adrian Peterson. I think Chilly has done his best Skipper impression by pulling out all the stops to get "THE FAVRE" here, and assisted maybe? In getting the soon to be 53 man roster to believe in "The Favre". Now it is time, to switch caps. It is now time to put forth the same effort for the 53 man roster to beleive they can win a Super Bowl the way this team was Intended.
Through ADRIAN PETERSON....Wasn;t the old guy brought in to Manage Games, and assist with the run game.
We have all panicked, and suggested trading Gerhardt for Moss, Berrian for Jackson. Chilly for Bellicheck?? Okay,. I slipped the last one in there, but seriously. We need to follow the Jive of the Jets. That Fat Fucker has the whole Eastern Seabore thinking they are the best team in the League. They belteve it too!!!! Its time for Chilly to let us know publicly and the team know, that we are the best team in the leagure, RICE or not. We have ample WR's and a Future Hall of famer at the Helm. We have the best RUnning back in the league. We have a Stout Defense.
What do the Jets have. They have ./ had the best running game in the league with Shonn Greene/Thomas Jones before he was traded. Together they couldnt hold AP jockstrap. They have a totally overrated QB in Sanchez. I think he has been totally put on a pedastal for NO reason. I am not even sure he is that good.
I do know, that we are the better team, and we need to start walking with that swagger. Save the talking for RubberBand Man. Lets put this thing into drive, and Win us A SuperBowl Baby!!!

Adrian Peterson gets his chance to carry the Vikings
This is was just posted on PFT:
Adrian Peterson gets his chance to carry the Vikings
Adrian Peterson wants to be great. All-time great. And from the monster games his rookie season to his dominant second year, Peterson generally has been great in his young career.
Sidney Rice’s injury presents a major roadblock to a successful Vikings’ regular season, but it also presents Peterson an opportunity. This is his time to jump from great to transcendent; to lift up a team that needs him more this season because of the schedule, because of Rice, because Brett Favre is bound to decline.
The one thought I can’t shake in their favor, however, is that Peterson could do something special. We quickly have forgotten how he entered the league like a supernova, with seemingly endless potential to help redefine his position.
Peterson now enters his fourth season, angling for a contract, sick of hearing that Chris Johnson is the best running back in the league.
Can Peterson carry the franchise? Can he string together a season’s worth of magical Sundays that he so often provided as a rookie and second year player?
Can he be AP2K?"
Thanks for this post man, I have honestly been feeling this way for a long time, even last year when the passing game was humming along and Favre was tossing 3-4 TDs a game; that the Vikings need to get back to pounding the rock with AD, “taking people’s will away” as Chilly likes to say, and letting the most talented player in the NFL (yes, Adrian is) realize his true greatness.
The most common comparison to what Favre is trying to do is what Elway did (win the SB and go out on top). But do you remember how the Broncos won? They rode a stud named Terrel Davis all the way to the SuperBowl. Well, we have our TD, and his name is Adrian Peterson.
Go ahead world, count us out, if the Vikings (esp. the OLine) can get back to basics, it’s time to unleash the Beast.

We have our TD, and his name is AD
Rec’d man. I agree 100%
AP has improved every year...
Last year was deceiving, we look at a number like 1,383 and we think “That is too low for Adrian Peterson, what is wrong with him?”.
But we forget that he had 18 TD’s and 436 receiving yards to go with those 1,383 yards rushing. That puts him at 1819 all purpose yards and 18 TD’s which is a heck of a lot better than his 2008 stats of 1885 and 10 TD’s.
Yeah
I read somewhere that Peterson still had like 40% of the offense
by what measure?
AD had 1383 yds rushing and 436 receiving. Is that the 40%? That would make our total offense something like 4500 yds, which I think is off by a third.
Not a third
Favre had 4000 yards passing. Peterson had 1300, Taylor had like 300 and Harvin had something like 40, in rushing. So it’s fairly close to 40%. Probably more around 30-ish.
No, I actually got it almost exactly right. 2009 Vikings had 6074 total yards offense. 6000 – 4500 = 1500. 1500 is 1/3 of 4500.
Hmmmm
According to stats and math, Peterson had 28.7% of the total offensive yardage production. Peterson also had 33.9% of the offensive TD’s scored last year. By combining both of them and deviding by 2, I come up with 31.3% of the total offensive output came from Peterson. Peterson was also responsible for 37.5% of the negative turnovers last year as well, while Favre accounted for 56.25% and Rice accounted for 6.25%.

Unfortunately, where he has not apparently improved much is ...
… his pass blocking. I know it its heresy to some, but Chester Taylor may have been just as important to this team last year as AD. A big, big, big reason for our 14-2 record last year (which gave us the all important bye) was that we had one of the best 3rd down conversion % in the league. And a lot of those conversions came on the pass — as 3rd down conversions tend to do — and a lot of those passes got completed because Chester was in there & either blocked well enough to let Favre find a target, or was the target himself, by making sure Brett had a checkdown.
I think some people underestimate how much losing Taylor could hurt you guys because of the exact reasons you just pointed out. He did the little things that people don’t necessarily always notice. Can Peterson or Gerhart come in and do those things? My opinion is no they can’t but maybe one will prove me wrong.
by packallday555 on Aug 25, 2010 6:54 PM CDT up reply actions
Naw
I don’t think anybody is underestimating Taylor’s contributions, or how much his loss hurts either. We all know Taylor was the optimal 3rd down back for a reason. Peterson better learn to pass block in a hurry.
But from what I’ve read, apparently the team isn’t ready to give Gerhart 3rd down opportunities yet, meaning Peterson is gonna be a 3-down back finally. That’ll only help his recieving totals. But, again, he’s gonna have to learn to pass-block fast.
Do you realize the direct reason Favre got sacked last week was because Peterson blocked for #%t on a 3rd down passing play?
“Gonna have to” does not mean “will.”
Couldn't have been that
the back-up C was terrible at picking up the blitz to begin with.
The reason Peterson sucked at blocking is because he tried to take on Willis head-on. A chop block would have sufficed. And even then it wouldn’t have mattered because the offensive line let not one, but TWO linebackers through. Favre was going to get sacked whether Peterson stopped Lewis or not. Rewatch the play, Takeo Spikes is RIGHT there too.
Peterson being a blocker could be a good and bad thing. When he catches balls in the flats it could be dangerous. If teams bring the house though, you could be in trouble.
by packallday555 on Aug 26, 2010 12:31 AM CDT up reply actions
Depends how we counter
We could end up seeing more HB screens this year than we have in previous seasons. Honestly, I’d prefer teams bringing the house, because I trust in Favre’s ability to get the ball out fast. I just don’t wanna see us have to face some crazy blitz-packages that are going to confuse our 2nd-year starting players on O-line/Peterson.
What I don't get...
is why people are so against the idea of the Jets thinking they’ve made a jump to being an elite SB caliber team. Hell they made it as far as the Vikings did and they added key players ALL over their team and their QB is now in his second year. Geez…they made it to the AFC Championship with a rookie QB last year why is it preposterous to think they’d get better?
YOu ask what the jets have? One of the best Olines in the league, three quality WRs (one who has bad hands but still they are good quality), a very good running back, one of the best 2-3 corners in the league and a solid D that can shut people down. Yeah I am buying their kool ade. They might not have the glitz and headlines of the Vikings but they might be the better team.
The reason I doubt the Jets
is that they got rid of their leading rusher and replaced him with Ladanian (totally washed-up) Tomlinson. How is LT going to be better than Thomas Jones OR Leon Washington, who they also got rid of?
The Jets will still have a very formidable defense and MIGHT be better on offense, but that is far from guaranteed
by princelyfrank on Aug 25, 2010 12:02 PM CDT up reply actions
Apparantly,
He have a lot of faith in Shonn Greene and Jones was simply expendable at 32 years of age.
No, they didn’t though. They replaced him with Shonn Greene. LT is going to be nothing more then a 3rd down Rb, which he will probably be very good at.
They have more then a formidable defense..It’s probably going to be the best one in the league! (assuming Revis plays) They really don’t need their offense to be any better. It just looks like it will be, which will certainly help improve their team.
by packallday555 on Aug 25, 2010 6:57 PM CDT up reply actions
Their run game is probably going to take a hit, I think
since they dropped Faneca. He was good at run-blocking. Shitty at the passing part, which is why they cut him, but I think they’ll miss him in the run-game. And Sanchez was mostly ‘Meh’ last year. Sure, they can rest on Greene’s shoulders, but eventually it’s gonna come down to Sanchez to push the team over the hump, and I’m not convinced he can do it.
Ryan just likes to talk smack. Throw in the fact that there doesn’t seem to be an end to the Revis situation anytime soon, and you have a worse-off team.
It's not the Kool Aid....
When you smoked that crack your mind got warped. Sanchez is awful 12 TD’s and 20 INT’s
3 rushing TD’s and 10 Fumbles. QB rating 63.0. He went to the AFC Championship on the wheels of the Jets running game. If you have finished with your crack pipe lets play a game. One of these QB’s is not like the other and never will be…. Brees/ Farve/ Sanchez/ Manning.
The dude was a rookie! Are ready to right Matthew Stafford off as well? He threw for 12 TD’s and 20 INT’s as well.
The Jets were and ARE a running team. Because of this they can bring Sanchez along at a slower pace, which could end up helping him quite a bit. They don’t need him to go out there and win games for them. That’s their defense’s job.
Regardless of whether their offense improves or not, their defense will still be one of the best in the league (the best in my opinion). Ever heard of the saying, “Defense wins championships.”?
by packallday555 on Aug 25, 2010 7:00 PM CDT up reply actions
It's a crap arguement
You need more than defense, especially with how the rules are set up now. What you really need is a good QB. Can Sanchez be that QB for the Jets this year? Kinda doubt it. Honestly, I think the Jets are just full of hot-air this off-season. The Dolphins have readily improved on offense, and the Patriots are pretending to be hungry underdogs. I doubt the Jets will do as well as they’re hyping themselves up.
I guess we just have a difference of opinions. If Revis plays I think their defense could end up being similar to that of the Ravens in 2003 (I think?) when they won the Super Bowl. I don’t think they’ll be as strong against the run as the Ravens were but they very well could end up having one of the better pass defenses of this decade.
With Revis and Cromartie, Ryan’s going to be able to do a LOT of things. He may be a cocky SOB but there’s no denying he’s one of the best defensive minds in the league. IF, and this is a big if, Sanchez has improved they should have enough on offense to compliment what they’ll have on defense.
I like the Dolphins, just not as much as the Jets. Their offense will be much stronger this season but I don’t know about their defense. As for the Pats, I think their past their prime. Maybe I’m being foolish for writing off a team with Brady and Moss but the reality is, their offense is getting older and their defense is a question mark for then.
Again though, it’s just my opinion. We’ll see how everything plays out. If the Jets end up being a big disappointment I’ll gladly tell you that I was wrong.
by packallday555 on Aug 26, 2010 12:43 AM CDT up reply actions
Naw, I wouldn't compare them to the Ravens (2000 btw)
They aren’t that fearsome. Do they have a good pass-defense? No doubt. Especially if Revis decides to quit holding out. But in regards to the offense, Sanchez really hasn’t looked all that impressive so far this pre-season. He looks like he’s in for a huge sophmore slump. He’s gonna throw too many ints and it’s gonna hurt them bad again, I predict. It’ll counteract that defense.
Wow, 2000 eh? I was way off haha.
Fair enough. See I haven’t watched Sanchez at all this preseason. I was more so going by what the guys over on the Jets blog had been saying about him, which probably isn’t a great indicator (obvious bias).
by packallday555 on Aug 26, 2010 1:57 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah, I'd be careful about taking that kinda stuff at face value
especially by a team that hypes itself up as much as the Jets
We need to follow the Jive of the Jets. That Fat Fucker has the whole Eastern Seabore thinking they are the best team in the League.
are you suggesting that we start fattening chilly up? feeding him lots of pizza and cheesecake?
i mean he already looks kinda funny. maybe the vikings need a reality tv show, that’ll give us swagger.
what they do have is an o-line that actually gets off the couch. they also run a zone blocking scheme. yet, they seem to be set with great younger talent across the front and were able to rack up 166 yards per game last year….with a rookie qb and suspect receivers.
we don’t have that. our o-line guys were way over rated last year, and haven’t done anything yet to convince me that they are going to all of a sudden get significantly better. bertt’s ass got munched against the saints, and he isn’t getting any more nimble. for us, it’s not just the running game, but keeping the qb healthy, and giving him some time. this gets more crucial when tarvarararis jackson goes in there, if brett gets concussed or crumpled.
forget sage, he can’t throw it 35 yards on the fly. maybe lots of quick outs and cut-back running might work tho.
we apparently run a zone blocking system. yet i keep seeing running backs get to the line and it’s just a clogged mess. i know a lot of this goes to the play calling and the running back (i.e. peterson) not knowing how to get the ball, pick a hole and THEN accelerate through it. but that o-line takes the brunt of the responsibility.
they only got two weeks to shape up, we need them now more than ever. especially with the rice/harvin deal.
p.s. the jets no longer have thomas jones…they replaced him with ladanian tomlinson and joe mcknight.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
Dude
Sage was flinging the ball amazingly the past 2 preseason games.
he just can't throw very long, imo.
plus, remember it was st. louis.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
Amazingly?
Did you even watch those games? He under-threw almost every pass, except for the throw to Mills.
Not to mention the fact that we were just running go routes and having Sage chuck it up there to try to inflate his numbers.
Oh, and did I mention the RAMS? Nevermind the fact that they were 31st in the league in opposing QB rating, it was their second and third string defenses.
He looked impressive.
You can’t blame him for all the dropped passes
They have been doing a lot of change ups with the O-Line
For instance Hererra played Center vs San Fran. I beleive it was a mistake that will not be made again…
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Dropped passes?
I wasn’t talking about dropped passes, I was talking a bout poor pass locations.
He underthrew at minimum 3 passes to wide open receivers.
Yeah, I'm with you.
Sage has looked far from impressive to me so far. He led three three and out drives against San Fran while going 2/7 for 11 yards. He put up nice stats in the first game but much of that was three long touchdowns on blown coverages against the Ram’s third string defense. He’s made some decent reads this preseason but he’s had at least a half-dozen badly underthrown balls that would probably be picked if he wasn’t playing against scrubs.
by CanadianViking on Aug 26, 2010 8:25 PM CDT up reply actions
Glad I am not the only one that was fooled by inflated stats.
Sage is not nearly as good as we need him to be.
hands of stone
AP is a great RB with hands of stone. This guy just killed us in the playoff loss to New Orleans. Put a handle on the ball. LOL!
he seemed to be catching the ball well in the preseason
he needs to learn how to chip a line backer and we’ll be fine.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
It wasn't AP that killed us in that game.
Did you even watch it?
AP only lost 1 fumble. ONE, and that was even the fumble he was not credited with.
Other than that, he had 122 yards and 3 TD’s. Yea, he killed us.
Harvin lost a fumble, so did Berrian. It wasn’t AP that was the problem, it was the coaching staff failing to gameplan against a team who’s primary defense is forcing turnovers.
Yeah, Peterson surely wasn’t the problem. It seemed like he was ripping off big gain after big gain against the Saints.
by packallday555 on Aug 26, 2010 1:59 PM CDT up reply actions
He only LOST one fumble
but he had 2, and was involved with another. Not to mention the goal-line fumble near the end of the first-half, in which nobody even touched him. He got good yards, but he DID hurt us in that game. More than Berrian or Harvin, or even Favre’s int. If you throw all those together, I’d say they killed us more than Peterson, but if we had to pick one player to say caused the most damage to ourselves, you’ve gotta go with Peterson.
It got to the point where I DIDN’T want to see him on the field when we were about to try and get some extra yards before the FG.
Umm.. I have to disagree.
The fumble he lost was both the one he was involved with that he was not credited with and the goal-line fumble near the end of the first half in which nobody even touched him.
It was the same fumble. You are turning it into two separate events.
It was credited to Brett because it was a botched hand-off, but AP took responsibility for it afterward.
I fail to see how a fumble lost by AP was some how worse than a fumble lost by Berrian or a fumble lost by Harvin. The fumble lost by Harvin turned into a TD by the Saints, whereas the fumble lost by AP did not result in New Orleans scoring.
Granted, it prevented us from scoring, but so did the fumble by Harvin, Berrian and the INT by Brett.
I reiterate:
It wasn’t AP that was the problem, it was the coaching staff failing to gameplan against a team who’s primary defense is forcing turnovers.
Because we had JUST
forced a fumble and recovered it with less than 2 mins, in the redzone, left in the half. That SHOULD have been good for 6 points, or at the very least 3, either of which would have been the difference maker in that game.
But no, I’m pretty sure he had 2 fumbles all to himself. One of which he scrambled like a mad-dog for to recover, but it was the 3rd fumble he was involved with that game.
Right.
But like I said, AP’s fumble only led to a loss of 7 points for the Vikings.
Percy’s fumble led to a loss of 7 points for the Vikes and a gain of 7 points for the Saints, a 14 point swing.
I get it… AP fumbled a lot in that game. But to say he was the reason we lost the game is just plain unfair. Would you rather have had someone who ran for 70 yards, 1 TD and no fumbles? Cause then we would have lost by even more.
Like I said,
you can’t blame just Peterson, but, on an individual scale, he did cause the most damage to the team that game. If you were looking to blame one person, it’s gotta be him pretty much. I mean, when I think back on that game, what sticks out most in my mind isn’t the Harvin fumble, or the Berrian fumble, or the Favre int. It’s Peterson being in on 3 fumbles.
I have to disagree.
And we might have to agree to disagree.
The point is, only one of his fumbles led to anything negative. Heck, he gained 15 yards on one of his fumbles, that could be argued as a positive.
Just because his fumbles stick out in your head does not mean they were the biggest reason we lost the game.
This is not a discussion of opinions, it is a discussion of facts. AP’s fumbles hurt us less than the other turnovers.
The Jets do not have the best offensive line in football. That is crazy talk. What you meant to say is that the Jets had the most rushing yards last year in football.
The Jets had 2,756 rushing yards on 607 attempts for an average of 4.5 yards.
The Vikings rushed for 1,918 yards on 467 attempts for an average of 4.1 yards.
That means the Vikings rushed 140 less times then the Jets. However if we do some simple math and take 140 more attempts and multiple it by the 4.1 average we get another 574 rushing yards. Now lets compare again with the same amount of rushing attempts.
Jets = 2,756 yards rushing
Vikings = 2,492 yards rushing(hypothetically)
Although the Jets still had more rushing yards in this hypothetical situation it’s tough to say the Jets have the best offensive line and the Vikings have a bottom five offensive line.
Now lets look at the passing downs.
The Jets gave up 30 sacks which was good for 11th best in the NFL.
The Vikings gave up 34 sacks which was good for 17th best in the NFL.
To say the Vikings have one of the worst five offensive lines in the NFL is ridiculous. Especially when we had a rookie RT in Phil Loadholt and essentially a rookie(even though it was his second year) in John Sullivan at center.
All Day Baby!
I will be there in person to see some REVENGE on Sept 9th,2010!
Brett Favre is the Greatest QB in NFL History, Bar None!
Brett Favre will be back in 2010, Guaranteed!
Brett Favre will lead the Vikings to a Victory in Super Bowl XLV, Guaranteed!
All Day
is right! The vikings have a lackluster WR corps at the beginning of the season? Sweet, sounds like Brett might go with the run option with the run/pass option plays that Bevell throws his way. The O-line is gonna do fine this year. They’re gonna take care of the 8 in the box like they did last year. AP has gotten that “patience” thing that Biennemy always talks about down pat. Losing Chester is gonna hurt a little bit, but this team is laden with talent that will adjust so they don’t even need to worry about 3rd downs. Pessimists, please bring your negativity to some other blog. We’re talking about the world champion Vikings this season here. Not the shit show that is taking place in St. Louis or Tampa Bay. Respect the fact that we swaggered into the championship game last year, while every other team besides Indy was fortunate to even make it. Ok, maybe New Orleans deserves a little more respect than that, but still simmer down folks, we have an elite team taking the field Sept 9.
Peterson doesn't have the patience down at all
that’s why Bienemy has been riding him on it the past couple seasons.
And, if you look at it realistically we have reason to worry on 3rd downs. Peterson isn’t the blocker that Chester was. Not even close. Which means Favre’s going to have less time to work with on 3rd down situations. And so will the recievers.
albert young on 3d?
albert young seems to be the best pass blocking hb they have.. i hope we can see a bit of him in that role saturday.. if AD continually misses blitzes, 3d may be young’s for the taking

A weapon
not a defense for the O…that is what imo AP is….would he be needed as a blocking back on 3rd downs….yes in some sets…so if u do not think he can fill that role, then do not use that O set.
play to his strong sets and the teams. do not for instance wait till after the game to figure out Mac needed help with the speed rushers. Use AP for what he is…a weapon, not a defense in your passing/3rd down game.
but then...
you announce to the defense what your intentions are. also, ap can catch the ball out of the backfield. his job can be to pick up a blitz, or chip block a rusher and then slide off to open area as a receiver.
i agree he is a total weapon, but i would like him to be a third down back as much as possible too..
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
The thing that hasn't changed
since last year – the offensive line that did a better job giving Favre time than it did opening holes for AP. Til that happens on a consistent basis, all the f’aith in AP’ and ‘AP is the answer’ thoughts leave me wondering how well the AP enthusiasts watched the off season aquisitions. AP, like Favre, is only as good as the people in front of him. Due to this fact, I’m not holding my breath for a 2,000 yard season at this point. It would be welcome. And knowing Favre’s propensity for bringing receivers up to his level, I have more faith in him doing much with little than I do AP. We shall see very soon.
and favre buys a lot of time for himself due to his experience. the o-line needs to show up huge, imo.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
