Mike and Mike in the Morning
8-8. That's what Mike Greenberg in his infinite wisdom predicts the Vikings (with Favre) will finish next year.
I usually like Mike & Mike - they're funny and usually talk about stories that you don't see on other sports shows. However, this is appalling and a slap in the face to the Vikings organization.
This team is a two-team division champ, with a 10-6 record with TJ/Gus and 12-4 record with Favre. Oh, and don't give me any schedule or injury garbage either. Every team can bounce back with good depth.
I don't know about any of you, but I am getting SICK and TIRED of the disrespect. Yes, I know it doesn't mean anything. Yes, I know that it can only serve to fire up the team, but COME ON...this blatant love for the Cowboys and Packers is really starting to make me puke.
PS - Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic both picked the Jets to win 11-5. HA, they can't even get their best defensive player signed, lol. (I can't wait until we play and they get crushed.)

what have we learned about the media and they're oppinions?
Screw them, they are just saying what ever will get the most people to talk about them. They are all hacks, except a few exceptions.
Mike is
AN IDIOT, I saw it as well, I picture the immage of Favre or Jackson holding up the Lombardi trophy and them showing it on Mike and Mike in febuary, then like the media always does they expect us to forget what they said 6 months ago and say ’I knew the Vikings can do it"

You know why??!??!??!??!??
Packers and Cowboys have a fan-base that is spread across the whole nation.
I know local girls who love the Cowboys…..
I know local people who love the Packers…
Those are two teams that seem to have an abundance of fans in other states.
Of course the media will give them more credit than what is due for them, since it’ll cover a larger area.
We could expect the same from the Vikings if we had a fan-base that stretched from the west to east coast and north to south…
So year in and year out, the Packers & Cowboys will get more credit than they deserve prior to a season….
Sickening?? Very much so.. But I guess whatever sells a few papers.. Of course any sports writer will be biased towards what will get him more hits..
Look at MJD on the yahoo sports blogs.. Ironically enough, he loathes Favre, and nearly everyone knows that… And its so bad of a hatred that many readers actually are starting to hate MJD w/ a passion. I enjoy reading the comments because so many people bash him…. Its awesome!
Vegas admits that their proximity to Texas and Texas's $$$$ cause skewed odds ..
Many new fans are based on Superbowl wins . 10 years ago you couldn’t find Saints stuff in Iowa if your life depended on it . Maybe at Goodwill. No lie !!!

Funny how that works..
Everyone LOVES a winner…. Band-wagon jumping fans….
But, when you think about it, everyone generally has a team they like the most. When it comes to the Superbowl, most likely your team will not be in it, but you’ll choose a team to root for.
This particular year, granted it was nice to see the Saints win it since it got them over that hump, but I was hoping the Colts to win, since I believed they deserved the win.
Their season(s) in general were more consistent and they had a better overall season with the win/lose ratio.
Most people I bet were putting the win towards Colts, leaving the Saints the underdog. When it comes to playoffs, generally the underdog will prevail at some point….
This particular year, I would say that the Jets went farther than they deserved, but, their defense is great. I think the Bengals had an outstanding season, but it was based upon their defense. I believe they sweeped every team in their division, and my favorite AFC team is the Ravens. Luckily, they made it into the playoffs w/ a WC and made it past the first round. But they had a tough game that followed against the Colts. Brady’s first playoff game was very atrocious to say the least. He was down 20-some points way too early in the game, and it seemed over before it even started for the most part.
Failure in big games
will make your team be a whipping boy. If the Vikes can win big, when they should, maybe folks will stop taking shots at them.
The media has been laughing at the Vikings since the post-mortems were being written about superbowl IV.
Hot tip to my Vikes. Win the big games, get the monkey and the media off your backs.
Oh, and build a new stadium too. That might help make the media think your legit once in a while. But hey, the media roots for our “Commander in Chief” and he’s ripping the consitituion apart & wiping his arss with it on a daily basis.
go figure.

Careful.
This is no place for politics, no matter how rediculous and "Glen Beckian’’ they sound.

The Saints have that now .
A storied history of lossing . And odds makers toss them to the side this year as though they lost to the Vikes ! Is that fair . We Vike fans have seen four NFC championships won . The Hall of Fame still has a long list of Vikes lined up to go . Politics won’t allow C.Carter to go with J. Randle . Walk thru the Hall sometime and tell me you don’t feel the Vikes contributions to NFL history . Your self-defeated theories don’t work on teams that consistently win championships like the Vikes . When the big one comes . You will just try another angle . Right ? Buffalo took the monkey off our back with their fifth loss . Wilf will end this soon enough !!

In nearly the last decade...
…Well, 13 years or so… The Vikings have seen the NFC championship 3 times!!!!!!!!!
That’s really not too bad for a team in my opinion.
However, 2 of those games were heart-breakings losses, 98 & 2009. I believe it was 2000 when the Vikings played the Giants and got their asses handed to them at what? 44-0??
Seems this year it was all about revenge!!
We smoked the Giants at the end of the season w/ a similar score 44-0, too bad that particular game didn’t count, but, if we had lost it, we would of lost our #2 seed.
Favre w/ Cowboys… Favre seemed to have had issues playing the Cowboys in the past.. Got over that hump, and to top it off, we ran up the score.
Here’s the twist… It worked against us w/ the Saints. We have a history of beating the Saints, and most of all, it was in the playoffs that the Saints so rarely made it to that we also have beaten them. I think we have beaten them twice play-off wise and they’ve only seen the playoffs a handful of times. This was their 2nd NFC Championship appearance since their franchise even existed.. And they lost their first appearance, in..? 2006??
If revenge tends to work out in the way planned…. We could expect a win against the Saints, but we probably will not sweep the Packers. (upon a Favre return)… I would predict a split…
Hopefully we sweep the Bears & Lions instead this year to make up for it.
Brett's revenge was last years theme . Kicking the door down is this years !!!
After this year . If the Saints and Vikes continue to win Conference . We will face them three years in a row . AT HOME . This is our year . But , the tide will turn on Who Dat Swamp starting in 2011 !!!

Greeny is a open Jets fan first .
He was bitter that Brett didn’t except NFL siberia . Personal feelings and self-glory guides all of ESPN . By week six he’ll be back hiding behind his Bobble-heads !!!
Most of the media picks were for the Vikings to win a SB at this time last year.
The NFL is a pass-oriented league outside of Minnesota, so the safer pick does seem to be teams that can stop the pass well (like NYJ).
There 14 points of offense and Sanchez coming off surgery neutralizes that IMO
It is different when we add that Brett hasn’t served us well enough Away on grass …

An awesome Superbowl would be...
Vikings vs. Jets
Great offense versus Great defense….
However, I just don’t see the Jets going all the way…
They are stacked on D, but their offense seems lacking. They’re a great run team, and we’re a great at stopping the run. It would also be a somewhat low scoring game.
I’d go as far to say, if the Vikings could put more than 20 on teh board, they’d win.
I think the Jets will claim the division title, but, will likely fall to a team like the Chargers or Colts again come playoff time.
AFC-wise, my prediction would be Chargers/Colts… W/ Chargers taking down the Colts..
But hey, we are only talking predictions and…. teams can come to suprise….
I’m just basing my prediction off of the idea that the Colts are consistent and will go deep, but fall short, and Chargers I believe will try to make up for last year.
I don’t think the Chargers will be there. I swear they’ve been picked by at least few people to be a SB team the last 5 years now and it never happens.
I think it’ll be the Colts or Jets out of the AFC. The Colts are an obvious choice. I know the Jets take a lot of heat about being overrated or over hyped but to me they’ve got a solid playoff team. Their defense is just always reliable. The offense was up and down last season with Sanchez. They’ve got a great OL and good Rb’s, and really even good WR’s. Sanchez just needs to play more consistently.
I’d guess he’ll continue to develop as he wasn’t terrible last season. He showed some good things, just not consistently. Kind of like how Stafford was for Detroit, though I think Stafford looked like a better player during his good showings. You’d think adding Holmes would help him out too.
Even their defense should be better. He did just introduce his scheme to the team last season. There’ll be more nuances too add, as well as more things he’ll be able to do as far as bringing pressure goes due to Cromartie being a good man coverage guy.
Like many of you guys I don’t like constantly hearing about all the hype regarding them but at the same time, I do think the team they have in place is worthy of it.

Mike G is an idiot.
8-8. That’s what Mike Greenberg in his infinite wisdom predicts the Vikings (with Favre) will finish next year.
I will be there in person to see some REVENGE on Sept 9th,2010!
Brett Favre is the Greatest QB in NFL History, Bar None!
Brett Favre will be back in 2010, Guaranteed!
Brett Favre will lead the Vikings to a Victory in Super Bowl XLV, Guaranteed!
We as fans..
Predict a record like that or even better with T-Jack….
Our division has strengthened a little bit, but, I am pretty sure that T-Jack is only a few steps behind Favre now, versus a few leaps behind him like he would have been pre-2009 season.
I wonder if their prediction would change if Favre retired?? Would we drop to a 4-12 team?
We have what I hope to say an improved secondary.
A great run-game
a great defense against the run
and now we have a proven set of receivers..
I would say about 10-6 w/ T-Jack
And about 11-13 wins w/ Favre.
Mike G is an idiot.

East Coast teams like the Cowboys and Packers?
But yeah, 8-8 is insane. If Favre retired, Rice’s hip doesn’t come around and either Allen or Peterson got hurt and missed 10 or more games, they might go 8-8. Maybe. Otherwise, I can’t see them doing less than 10-6.
What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

I wish I thought that you were right about that.
The Vikes had a very easy schedule last year, so even having everyone healthy won’t necessarily mean that the team would win the same number of games.
Easy and tough games, yes, but the strength of schedule (how many tough games) changes each year. Because they won so many games last season, the Vikings’ schedule will be purposefully tougher this year.
Teams they will face in 2010 that they didn’t during the regular season 2009:
Saints, Jets, Patriots, Cowboys, Eagles, Dolphins, Redskins, Giants (and none of those are week 17 against backups), Bills, not to mention the improved NFC North teams 2x each. Surely the Seahawks and 49ers have improved, also.
Teams replaced by the aforementioned teams:
Bengals (would you rather play them now or last year? I think they will only be better this time around) Panthers, Ravens, Steelers, Seahawks, Browns, Rams.
Basically, it’s the Saints (best) instead of the worst (Rams) plus a few other 10-11 win teams instead of 9-7 teams plus last year’s AFCCG loser, a popular pick to win it all this year, instead of the Browns. It is definitely a tougher schedule this year.
Hmm
From my recollection, the teams we play are based on a rotation – every year the 4 AFC Divisions and 3 NFC Divisions are rotated yearly. Therefore, there are only 2 games every year that have anything to do with a previous year’s schedule.
Also, we won the division in 2008 with TJ, meaning we would have the toughest two divisional teams the next year (last year), which were Carolina and NY Giants. We went 1-1 against them, and both of them missed the playoffs.
Plus, many of the tough teams last year will take a step back, and many of the bad teams will step up. You just never know!
Our receiving core
Is still pretty deep… Harvin may be utilized better as a receiver… Maybe the Go-to receiver? B. Berrian should be healthy with no more hamstring issues… And we still have Shank to be a proven red-zone target.
If allen went down, we still have Brian Robinson who is no slouch
AP being hurt would be pretty disheartening, but we still have a lot of options with a RB.
T. Gerhart could be a proven player that may not be respected w/. 8 or 9 in the box and could have hay-day of a few games.
Just saying I think even if those occurences happened, we could still be pretty successful.
No Ted they are Goodell's Cash Cows !!!

A couple/few things to consider.
Technically we don’t have a legit QB…..yet!
We all know Favre is coming back, but until he does, Jackson is the guy.
? in the D-Secondary.
The best DB we have is Winfield, but can Winfield play like we need Winfield to play for 20 games?….I think he can as long as he’s not the only guy doing all the tackling again. :)
Griffen will be out for awhile, leaving Shepard and a couple of unproven back-ups to fill in.
Thankfully T. Johnson and M. Williams have been working together during the off season. Maybe they can clean up some of those missed tackles, and step up like we need them to step up. But until they do, they’ll still be considered weak at best.
As others have mentioned
The Vikings need to win the games that count if they want respect from the media. The Vikings are arguably the best team in football, but they lose the games they need to win….Beating the Cards, Panthers or Bears last year would have given us HFA against the Saints. And they wouldn’t have needed the Eagles to lose their last game to get the #2 seed
If the Vikings had won the SB last year, they would be favored to win again this year, (with Favre)
With all that said, I think the Cowboys pick is a stretch. The only thing they got going for them is the NFCE is all shook up right now. Mcnabb with the Skins, but A.Haynesworth can’t pass a physical.
I doubt Kolb or Vick can carry the Eagles through the PO’s….And what’s up with the Giants. They’ve been pretty quiet.?
SKOL!
Secondary
Jamarcus Sanford is knocking on the doof or Tyrell Johnson so it has been said. I think he’s a great safety… A real thumper, especially on ST. I’ve seen him hit, and it looks like he hits hard.
Madeau Williams is expected to have a break-out season…. I’ve seen videos of him hitting AP and it looks pretty surprising.. Williams & Johnson both attended the CC & LF speed camp, so you should expect some improvements out of them.
Lito is a proven vet, but, he could be a camp body to push some of the other training camp bodies… Chris Cook has had some promising days, but he is also a rookie…. I like the idea of our corners being great for tackling (Missed tackles has been some what of an issue year after year) I know Winfield is great against the run, and it sounds like Cook rarely misses tackles, but his downfall is getting beat deep. Hopefully our Safeties have improved on their coverage..
As close as the game was against the Saints, I would have felt very comfortable going against them on our own turf. The same turf & home we were undefeated for the 2009-2010 season. I think the crowd-noise would of been a huge factor and benefit….
A. Haynesworth finally passed his conditioning test… After numerous tries… I think a great game to watch this year will be the Redskins vs. Eagles… I think it’ll be like the Eagles took a few step backs and the Redskins took a few steps forward. It will definitely be fun to watch. (Must like Packers vs. Vikings). I think the Giants failed miserably due to a poor defense. Eli may seem a little overrated, but, the Giants started out hot but fizzled mid-season… Saints put up 40 points on them…. They need to focus on their defense. They could potentially be a surprise…
Cowboys could be scary only due to their revenge they’ll want to have on us… Its one of the only home games I fear we could potentially lose (besides a Packer split). But, I think we’ll come out ahead on them again…. After re-watching the MNF Packers game, we were pretty fortunate early with a few A. Rodgers screw-ups…. However, we did seem to dominate them pretty well in Lambeau.
I'm just coming up with reasons for why the media isn't picking the Vikings
I should also mention that P.Harvin has missed the last 15 practices, and is now missing more due to migraines….Also, I was listening to the Vikings practice this morning on the radio, and ADAP had 3 Fumbles. I think it was 3. 2 for sure.
It’s nice to see T. Johnson finally have to compete for his job. I like hearing that he and Williams didn’t take much time off, and went to work with each other during the off season. We should see some improvements this year..we know they can’t get much worse. :)
It’s also nice to hear the C. Cook is catching on well. You can never have too many good DB’s.
I think we’ll need HFA to make a run in the PO’s this year too. At least the #2 seed.
I think we can beat the Cowboys again.
The Packers scare me the most. I fear losing to them in PO’s. I’m not losing sleep over them yet, but that kinda stuff happens to us Vikings fans all the time…lol.
East coast SPorts Network
Just watch any one of their studio shows sometime and just pay attention to whenever they mention an east coast team or player associated with an east coast team. And then pay attention to when they don’t.
Whenever ESPN is not talking about east coast sports teams, they are talking about the few other teams with outsized fanbases: LA, Chicago, Houston, and the Packers.
The only reason they mention the Vikings recently is because of the superstar who is testing his ankle right now. Otherwise they wouldn’t even cover the Vikings.
Good point
One reason I was happy Favre played for us. I got to see almost every game on prime time.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Very beneficial...
So many prime-time games…
I think thats why we don’t have very many Fox Noon games early part of the season..
Why? Because they’re predicting a Favre return…..And the Vikings normally start out hot…
Too the contrary .... Brett came out of the Gate slow last year .
Maybe not in wins . But in production .
