The Pre-Season Comes To An End Tonight

Denver Broncos at Minnesota Vikings, Sep 2, 2010 7:00 PM CDT

DENVER BRONCOS (1-2)
PRE-SEASON MINNESOTA VIKINGS (2-1)

@

Date: 2 September 2010
Location: Minneapolis, MN
Time: 7:00 PM Central
Stadium: Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome
TV: KARE-11 (NBC)
Know Thy Enemy: Mile High Report
Gonzo's Prediction: Doesn't matter as long as everyone stays healthy
Final Score: See above

Not a whole lot to say going into this evening's game at the Metrodome between the Broncos and the Vikings.  The starters are, apparently, going to play, but we'll see how long that lasts.  Other than that, players on both sides tonight have jobs on the line, and the word is that the Vikings are going to see a lot of Denver quarterback Tim Tebow this evening, thus guaranteeing that the replay of this game on NFL Network tomorrow has a chance to be the highest-rated pre-season broadcast in NFL history.

There's a lot going on in Minnesota sports tonight between this game, the Twins looking to sweep the Tigers, and the Golden Gophers opening up their season.  We have numerous links to all the action over at SBNation Minnesota if you want to swap your sports-viewing focus to a couple of different venues.

Other than that, enjoy the game tonight, and let's hope everyone on both sides comes out healthy. . .lord only knows that we need as many healthy bodies as we can get a week from tonight. . .for numerous reasons.

Still starting TJack over Sage. What does Sage have to do?

by Viking in MT on Sep 2, 2010 7:21 PM CDT reply actions

It's really Chilly's love affair

for Tarvaris Jackson. After T-Flops fifth year, I think it’s time to let go. I mean Sage has outplayed Tarvaris completely this pre-season. With the game on the line and no Brett, I feel much better with Sage at the helm rather than T-Jack.

by PurpleEaters on Sep 2, 2010 7:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Exactly

I know Chilly loves TJack so much, but man, it’s time to let go.

by Viking in MT on Sep 2, 2010 7:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Hopefully

Think they want to trade T Jack?

by Viking in MT on Sep 2, 2010 7:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Now that I think about it

T-Jacki hasn’t had a successful drive this entire Pre-season! Our newly drafted Quarterback Joe Webb has had more successful drives than Tarvaris. It’s almost like Tarvaris is slipping something into Chilly’s Kool-Aid?

by PurpleEaters on Sep 2, 2010 7:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks PE

I wanted to fanpost on this. TJ never gets betterr. While at camp you could see Webb had more poise, better arm and a willingness to learn. Where was Jax during breaks you saw coaches chating with Brett wwith Sage looking and listening on. Where was Jax? On the bench playing with his play station?
Honestly. If Favre went down who would you trust to run the system, not panic and be able to check 2nd /3rd options? -SAGE.
I got to talk with Joe Webb. Good kid and when I watched that scimmagein Kato you never saw Joe afraid to make a mistake but rode a wave of confidence. Seriously, you can literally see the indecisiveness in T Jax’s eyes. Against Seattle TJ just looked awful. I would shut the TV off if he had to come in. Throw Jax out and get a draft pick. Keep Sage and let Webb work with both of them.
I could never see this in Jackson but there is something about Joe. I just feel this kid will turn into something. I told Rebel Grey on the phone from camp, "this kid has got to stay. He will blossom into a star someday. A little longer at QB but while he rides the pines have him working going up for for red zone passes. We miss Sidney’s ability to go up. Joe could learn that and fill the void as a situation wideout
SAY BYE-BYE TO T-JAX! GET HIM OUT OF HERE! hE NEVER WAS OR WILL BE A LEGIT THREAT AS A STARTING QB

by CitrusFLViking on Sep 2, 2010 10:22 PM CDT up reply actions

but....

chilly says Sage got more things his way in preseason – that is… weaker defenses.
he sees TJack as stronger in camp and practice.

Sage doing awesome? Really?!?

1-4 for 10 yards, 1 first down. Wow. And you guys are saying, "He cannot be denied the #2!"

Please. The reality is both Sage and TJack look bad. But they are playing with and against mostly scrubs, with a vanilla offensive game plan. You can’t really make a strong argument for or against either one. Both are mediocre.

I’ll go with TJack based on his youth (5-6 years younger) and his athleticism (at least we can run Wildcat stuff with him). The reality is, Favre needs to stay healthy this year, AD and the line need to dominate with the run game, and the D needs to be even better than last year in order for us to have any chance. The #2 QB will be irrelevant, because if it comes down to that, we are probably screwed anyway.

Sage 63.5% Completion rating for like 400 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Tarvaris? SQUAT. No touchdowns at all. No drives leading to passing touchdowns from him.

It was a mistake

Calm the hell down.

And to PurpleEaters, I agree Sage has been better this preseason, but 300 of those 400 yards and 3 of the 4 TDs came in garbage time against the Rams 3rd stringers in the 1st preseason game. Can’t really take much away from that. Meanwhile, TJack got like 1 series in that game, so he didn’t get to rack up “stats” (meaningless as they are).

Rhys Lloyd killin' it

For those of you watching, what is Rhys Lloyd’s touchback % in this game? Is he like 3 for 4? Is that enough to get him on the squad?

by Ace991 on Sep 2, 2010 8:20 PM CDT reply actions

According to NFL.com

Lloyd’s first kickoff – 6 yards deep in the end zone, returned 24 yards by Alphonso Smith

Lloyd’s second kickoff – 7 yards deep in the end zone, touchback

Lloyd’s third kickoff – 5 yards deep in the end zone, touchback

And since the Bronco’s kicked to start the game, that’s all Lloyd has done tonight. . .he should be 3 for 3 on touchbacks. . .the decision to run the first one out of the end zone was kind of dumb.

Having seen Sage be competitive and knowing that they are unlikely to risk losing Webb, Jackson knows someone is likely to leave.

You could see his frustration at the end of the first series. He was seriously pumped and was forcing his passes.

Things get more interesting at the Bulls-Eye

The Twins now lead the Tigers 7-5 with 2 outs in the top of the 8th as the Tigers have gotten two solo homers in the top of the 8th (one off of Rauch, one off of Guerrier).

And thanks to a J.J. Hardy throwing error, the Tigers have runners on second and third with the same two outs in the top of the 8th.

The Twins better not blow this.

Let the final roster speculation begin.

1. Cuts. Or trades.
2. Free Agents.
3. Practice squad.
4. Injury adjustments.
5. Game day inactives.

Is it me or is Tarvaris trying to get released without a trade . I wouldn't be suprized if New Orleans or Tennessee gave him an early call .

He sucked so bad I would place him on IR with wimpy arm disease . He couldn’t throw a ball to a WR if his life depended on it !
