Listen to Favre in his own words.....................

Listen to Favre in his own words telling everyone he does not have enough to work with. Favre basically calling Berrian out, telling him he thinks his heart is in it, but he doesn't have what it takes. He also said that there was no Chester Taylor.

To blame Favre for what is going on is totally ridiculous.

http://www.vikings.com/media-vault/videos/Favre-Presser---919/e4f14c91-78f8-4636-9632-c7f5859ae9ed

Favre is not rusty. Favre is trying his hardest. Favre is trying to make plays.

Favre has come here to win, period.

Get Favre what he needs, or get what is around him to produce at the highest level they can.

20 years in the League, at the toughest position, should warrant someone listening to what he needs.

Favre owns a great deal of the season’s disappointment so far but I’m not out to crucify him yet, unlike a lot of people here it seems.

I personally think Favre wouldn’t have been back had Chilli not sent out the boys to Mississippi to persuade him with comradeship, he knew how hard this season would be for him.

I think we try to attribute mythical status to Favre thinking he will look 100% or pretty damn close after what happened to him last season. Not going to happen right off the bat, and if that freaks out fans that were clamoring for his return with vehement enthusiasm only a few months earlier, then perhaps they were the ones being unrealistic.

Give Favre time, I’m pretty damned sure the Vikings are showing up next week, Favre included. Now if we lose hard against the Lions, maybe then there will some merit to some of this venom.

favre was just extorting an extra $7million to go on top of his $13million that he was already under contract for. brett was coming back, even your grandma knew that.

I'm willing to cut Brett some slack, but if he stinks it up against the Lions....well I don't know what I'll do.

I don’t think I have to worry about that though….I hope. I’m just pissed because I cut my fishing trip short, drove 3 1/2 hours home to watch the game in HD on my bigscreen and I wish I would’ve stayed up north and watched it on the 10 " or so screen. I guess I can’t blame Brett for that though.

I was at the game .

We lost on a late drive again . It could have ben worse as the refs helped us out quite a bit . I personally feel that the New Turf has a lot to do with the loss . Both sides slipped on several plays . Bad shoe choice is a possibility . Did the TV show this ?

When AP fell

it seemed like he intanstly got up though.
He practically bounced off the turf.

If anything, he probably gained yards due to that as some defenders may have slowed down on the play and not realized he would get up so fast.

I do agree Berrian is not as good as people think he is

However, I think Favre feels the most confortable with receivers who can go after a ball. Tall receivers with good ball awareness. This is not what we have right now and it’s not helping Favre at all. He’s still acting like Rice is out there, and while Rice is 6’4" Berrian is only 6’ and Harvin is even shorter than that. They need to alter their play book a bit to take account of Berrian and Harvins strengths. Harvin will get you YAC, Berrian is good in space where he can work his speed up. Berrian has not been good at this lately and that is the biggest issue.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

by Grime on Sep 20, 2010 12:30 PM CDT reply actions

I will say this as well

Nothing against you R4F I understand your hero worship, however, Favre is not doing a good job. That first in would have been a great play if he had another 7 yards on the ball. Favre’s completion rating is also terrible. He’s holding the ball a long time in the pocket as well He needs to look at his check downs more quickly. It doesn’t seem like he trusts his team to pick up yards if he fails.

Not sure how he can be helped but i know he needs it. I think a win against a tough Detroit team will do wonders for his confidence. I do not like that he’s pointing the finger at other players though. That does not need to happen in the locker room. Period, ever.

Packer and Bears logic dictates ???

We are still in good shape . We only play two undefeated teams the rest of the year . First the Bears . You know the ones who lost to Detroit . Unofficially . Second the Pack . They had the toughest schedule so far . And my early prediction in the Spring involving Clay Mathews and HGH . Are coming thru bright and clear . Or would a real Vike fan tend to disagree with my wise view ???

by gothicpurple on Sep 20, 2010 1:17 PM CDT reply actions

Yes R4F ,

Brett has confidence in his throws . He shows signs of calling Berrian as limited as a WR . His S/T abilities are even worse . I think they are trying to include him in the deal . Unloading his salary as the main concern . Brett called him healthy . That is not the same guy who ran the 99 yarder . That is on display in the HOF you know !

by gothicpurple on Sep 20, 2010 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

My thoughts

R4F and I are on the same page. Favre never directly calls his receivers bad, but, you can tell he is hinting at it. This is a guy who consistently takes the blame….. I think part of what Favre’s problem is would be frustration. You can’t make plays when receivers are playing below average.

People can say…. He should of been in TC! Well, it wouldn’t help him find the rhthym with Harvin or Greg Camarillo better. It would have helped him find a rhythm with Lewis, Bernard, and Shank. But, Favre seems to be doing okay with Shank, so why can’t Lewis or Bernard get on the bus?

Well… Lewis made that miracle catch and has not been anything else since than. He has a veteran status, but, his ability is limited. And for those that say its Favre’s fault that he can’t catch should watch BB tried to fair catch a punt… Yup, BB has solid HANDS and always catches everything… /end sarcasm.

I’m not giving Favre a free pass, but I am leaning towards pointing the guilt more towards the receiving core versus the QB.

BB is not a true #1.. Rice was, and Rice was double covered a lot… I saw BB double covered in the Vikings game…

Sadly, in the future, I don’t see Favre having a preference to throw to BB unless he is wide open.. Sort of like last year, it seemed BB didn’t perform early and he sort of faded away until the NFCCG.

My prediction. When Greg Camarillo gets a decent knowledge of the playbook, he’ll be Favre’s favorite target. Unless we sign a guy like VJ, because he would have potential… Greg Lewis is just not going to be a star, but he could prove vital at times.. He could also likely be the odd-man out on the return of Rice.

Give Harvin a break

It’s not like he was faking the migranes to just skip camp. It’s not like his grandmother didn’t die. In life crap happens and that includes these guys too. They are human beings after all. From the look of things it’s not like Harvin planned to miss camp and then arranged all this stuff to happen to him.

Farve on the other hand….

by Grime on Sep 20, 2010 3:58 PM CDT up reply actions

it is.

If we look back at last year, we’ll see that Favre never really gelled with BB/Harvin/Lewis.
His primary targets were Rice/Shank/Taylor. 2 outta 3 are missing.

I think we can survive w/out Taylor, but Rice was a huge part of this offense last year. He’s definitely the missing piece.

by chaosg on Sep 20, 2010 4:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Eh

Taylor/Harvin were both nice 3rd down targets.
Taylor more for a screen-pass/rush
Harvin more as a receiver.

Solid answer.. Run Harvin more in screen passes…. Boom! A solution to part of a problem.

by Deek on Sep 20, 2010 4:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe... Maybe not...

But w/ him having a late surgery, it only makes it easier for the fan-base to blame him.
Would he have really been a factor?

Too bad we didn’t still have Taylor and Rice…
Make it as close as possible to a 2009 offense…

I would gladly take our 2009 offense w/ our 2010 defense and play our 2009 schedule.
i don’t think there would of been a way we should ever lose in that scenario.

by Deek on Sep 20, 2010 4:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Sid being a factor is a good question?

Everybody seems to forget that through the first four games of last year a hamstrung Berrian, a rookie Harvin, and a healthy Sid were almost identical in producing solid but unspectacular numbers, Sid broke out in game 5 and had some big games for us down the stretch but our early success last year came from spreading the ball around and everybody contributing.
Here’s the stat lines for our top five receivers through four games last year:
Berrian 16 rec. 177 yds. 1 Tds
Rice 14 rec. 172 yds. 2 Tds
Harvin 14 rec. 167 yds. 2 Tds
Taylor 21 rec. 138 yds.
Shank 9 rec. 67 yds. 2 Tds

So far this year Shank has upped his production quite a bit and Peterson’s has done a good job of replacing Taylor’s production in the passing game but Berrian and Harvin have both struggled to produce. Not sure what the problem is but Favre only seems to be connecting on throws that go to the short middle to intermediate middle area which might be an indication of an arm strength or plant foot problem.

by CanadianViking on Sep 20, 2010 4:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I listened to his press conference......

Two things. One- I wish he expressed the passion that you do. Second- I am concerned by his reference AGAIN to,and I am paraphrasing now, “being afraid to fail.” He made mention of this at his first presser back on 8/18. This is not the same mindset he entered the 2009 season with, and, I believe, is not conducive to playing winning ball. I would rather hear something like, “I am sick of losing like this…etc., etc.” What say you?

by Mel Allen on Sep 20, 2010 4:46 PM CDT reply actions

Favre deserves some of the blame, but not all

I mean afterall, the Vikings are a TEAM, right? Not one guy can run the whole show and take the kudos for the good times nor the full blame for the bad.

Granted, I am living a couple states away and didn’t get to see the Dolphins game. But, listening to it on Sirius radio gave me a pretty broad perspective on a team that has little chemistry and no big playmakers stepping up. Peterson sounded like a beast during the bulk of the game, but ultimately couldn’t come up with the gamebreaker at the end. Jared Allen, who was Aaron Rodgers’ personal nightmare last year, hasn’t done squat yet. I watched the Taint’s game and remembering Drew Brees is the Madden cover boy this year I kept waiting for Jared Allen to put him through the turf. I don’t think he even touched him. Where has he been? He needs to get him a tape of Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.

Favre, who should’ve gotten his happy @$$ to camp to train with these guys, is trying really hard to fill in the gaps but is also trying to do too much. With Rice out, Harvin struggling, Camarillo struggling, and Berrian………………um………….being Berrian — there’s not much a QB can do to fix those kinds of problems. It will take Rice coming back, Harvin getting healthy, Camarillo fully adjusting and stepping up, Berrian improving, and possibly the acquisition of Jackson to get this team back to a threatening level in the air. But, we already knew that.

A lot of people love to hate on Favre, and I understand that. He was your biggest rival for years, and to the rest of the NFL universe he’s a media whore and drama queen. But, deep down, he’s just a guy who loves to play the game and doesn’t know when to hang it up. And I truly believe he loves this team. Watch the pants on the ground video from last year and you can just see it. Watch him tackle Percy Harvin after throwing him his first TD. He had a great time with these players last year and wanted to come back to try to win it all one more time.

The team isn’t where it needs to be. We can see that. But, the reasons why are everywhere. Not just with one guy.

Actually I read somewhere something that Keven Williams said after the game

Basically it was that the team thinking it was coming back complete took some things for granted, like winning. He said the hurdle now is to realize that winning is not a given no matter who is playing and that they need to get back to the basics of playing football for the entire game.

It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...

Favre should look in a mirror.

Typical Brett Favre, always putting the blame on someone else. This drama queen can never admit that he played poorly. I think it is time to turn to one of our backup QB’s to salvage this season. Favre looks old and lame.

man I can't believe what I am reading

the same guy you were basically worshiping last year is now being blamed for everything that is going wrong. Yes, its a select few but damn can you not see this is not the same team from last year? I just don’t get it. Yes, Favre is guilty of alot of things but are you really going to sit there and say that this is all him???? Favre does admit to screwing up. I don’t think he is stupid enough to believe that he is perfect in all of this. He has taken blame for alot of losses, and alot of INT’s in his 20 years of playing. Does he throw some players under the bus? You damn right he does. Manning and Brady would do the same damn thing. Just like you would if you were the QB of the team. And don’t say you wouldn’t. I am not naive in thinking that my boy Favre is playing lights out. He has been flat at times, but still makes the plays that would make younger quarterbacks blush. Brees isn’t playing lights out. Rodgers isn’t playing lights out. Face it, players are going to come back rusty. And get off the whole training camp thing. Rice is out. Harvin missed most if not all of training camp. Camirillo wasn’t even on the Vikings when Favre was still in Mississippi. That leaves Shank, Lewis and Berrian and as we can all see, Shank is playing lights out, Berrian can’t catch a cold (or a punt and try blaming that on Favre), and Lewis is Lewis. So for all you blowholes that keep bringing up the missed training camp, get over it. It has also been brought up that Favre was rusty last year. Just the difficulty level has changed. Face it, we need WR help plain and simple. Or we are going to have to play smashmouth football from here on out.

hey I may not be a "real" vikings fan

but i know that I root for the Vikings now and will root for them after Favre. Just because I come from being a Pucker’s fan doesn’t mean that I can’t change allegiances. Yes, I didn’t suffer all the years that most of you have suffered. But I do consider myself a Favre fan and Vikings fan. If only you knew how much I cringe and how bad I want to bite my professors heads off when I hear the smack they talk about the Viqueens as they call them. And how many fights I have gotten into on facebook defending this team. I have resorted to no longer posting anything football related on their because it makes me sick fighting with people who root for a team only when they are good but hide when they suck. So I may not be a “real” fan as you say, but I am a fan. A FAN OF THE VIKINGS.

Even if the Vikings won 44-0, it wouldn’t change turn flatulence into Chanel.

They would say, “Well, it was only Miami, so it doesn’t mean much”. Obviously a W is better than an L, but I doubt it would suddenly have made everyone believers in the Vikings.

Favre was part of the loss, no question. But there were a lot of guys who made key errors at the worst possible time, not just Favre.

I’m still glad we have him in Purple.
