2010 Minnesota Vikings Roster Cuts - Open Thread
UPDATE (3:13 PM Central) - Minnesota has released K Rhys Lloyd. Guess that last pre-season game wasn't enough to get him on the roster.
UPDATE (3:03 PM Central) - Minnesota has released OL Adrian Battles. Still plenty of cuts to go before 5 PM Central time.
UPDATE (3:00 PM Central) - The Vikings have cut ties with WR Logan Payne and DE Mike Mongtgomery.
UPDATE (2:30 PM Central) - Pro Football Talk is reporting that WR Freddie Brown is on his way out of town.
UPDATE (2:25 PM Central) - The Vikings are now up to eight cuts on the day. Receiving visits from the turk thus far have been FB Ryan D'Imperio, DT Tremaine Johnson, TE Garrett Mills, OT Chris Clark, RB Ian Johnson, G Thomas Austin, and CB Marcus Sherels.
UPDATE (12:25 PM Central) - We have our first cut of the day, as the Vikings have released CB DeAndre Wright.
The Vikings have to be down to the NFL-mandated maximum roster size of 53 in approximately 24 hours or so. While some teams have already started wheeling and dealing. . .the Dallas Cowboys sending Patrick Crayton to the San Diego Chargers, for example. . .we haven't heard anything out of Winter Park quite yet.
We all know that the Vikings have some roster issues to resolve. . .the backup quarterback situation, where I personally predict that Sage Rosenfels is the odd man out and will (hopefully) get traded to someone rather than getting cut.
The New York Giants only have two QBs on the roster right now. I'm not sayin'. . .I'm just sayin' is all.
It's also going to be interested to see if we trade some of the ridiculous amount of depth we have on our defensive line for some secondary help. If we don't, some team is going to get an upgrade on their front four free of charge sometime tomorrow.
But we can use this thread for any and all roster speculation, breaking news, and stuff like that about the Vikings' impending roster moves. Have at it, ladies and gentlemen!

If we keep T Jack
And let lose Sage or Webb..I swear I am going to Hadooken that smug little head of Childo’s.
I think T-Jack or Sage may be traded to the Steelers
Now that Leftwich is out 2-4 weeks and Big Ben is out for the 1st 4 games.
And their starting center
from last year, Justin Hartwig, has been given permission to seek a trade.

Let's go get Vincent Jackson
Pleeeeeease! They need a backup running back and we have a few we are going to have to let go anyway. then give them a 2nd rounder next year also.
Salary Too Big.
Lockeroom too tight.

Not for this year it isn't.
Jackson would be a 1 year rent a player. With the CBA coming up, it would be in the Vikes best interest to give him up for a conditional 3rd round.
He won't play for this year's salary.
That’s why San Diego is looking to trade him.
I suggest we forget about Vincent Jackson.

My guess is...
the Vikings were the team to have a trade worked out and SD’s price was too high. That’s why we let Javon go. Maybe in a week or so the price will drop. Just an inkling I have about this…. Can you imagine Rice, Harvin, Jackson, Berrian and Camarillo come the end of the year? Best WR core in the NFL…..
Combine this with the best D Line in the NFL, one of the bst RB’s in the league, one of the most experienced (top 5 QB’s) in the league, one of the most reliable kickers in the NFL and you have a SB champion IMO.
Do that and then do something about our O line, like signing Kevin Mawae, and OMG!
vikesfansd, what the hell? you didn't even MENTION t-jack in your post. are you feeling okay?

Not evan close I think he’s a joke of a QB Im feeling good about Webb though he’s raw but there’s something there. Hell maybe we will have to watch a game at the tilted kilt some time !!!
as for Webb
i don’t know. There is a reason why he play the Senior Bowl as a WR. That ok. everybody deserve a chance.
Big big news
Seattle is going to (stupidly) cut another productive player. Houshmandzadeh is likely going to be released.
Vikings should pick him up ASAP.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
This wasn't his choice to be cut
Pete Carroll can’t help himself so MIke Williams will be #1.
You need a receiver I bet with Rice out and Housh could give you guys some stability.
Mo Johnston is what John Schneider could be in 4 years.
Pete Carroll
is a moron. I heard he’s also trying to get another qb, which means he’ll have to drop a qb. Would it be surprising if Hasselbeck becomes the victim?
nope!
Carroll is going with ‘youth’ to build a team.
I’d take Hasselbeck over TJ and Sage.

If the Vikes pick up Housh, i would be mad happy.
Especially if its like a 7th round pick. What a bargain.
dude if he's cut, we wouldn't have to give up anything
A WR Corp of
Houshmanzadeh
Berrian
Harvin
Cammarillo
Walker
Then eventually rice….
That would be nice, but were probably 30th on waiver wire.
The Rams would pounce on him if he were actually cut.
i don’t think he goes through waivers if he’s been in the league so long, am I right? Anybody? Not like I want him here but I would prefer him over b-twice.

I was thinking the same thing.
I think he might become a free agent; not a waiver wire guy. But I really don’t know. That said; I say let Housh go back to Cincy with Ocho & T.O. Now there’s a reality show waiting to be made.

we need sage, every team needs a good backup
but we also need a starter. So who would that be? Webb, or maybe a draftee. This is hard for me to say, untill we find a starter, we need to keep jackson.
About 27 hours from your posted article . Which brings up a point .
As you were debating your male birth control patch Vs. the male birth control pill too solve your personal dilema . And by the way . Neither really help with your cramps . And that is our main concern for you fella .
CBS was speaking of multiple teams asking about several backup DL men , QBs and other players . Why do you sit like ESPN and say that you don’t have any word out of WP . You mean you don’t have the time to check local papers . And you actually have no inside source .
Can you at least start a rumor or something . Why are we always the last to know unless Deek or someone does your work for you . We want real scoops . The Editor soap opera can wait until Bye Week !!!!
Perhaps I am missing your point (And I don’t think many would blame me for that), but everyone here, from Gonzo to Deek or someone else, has a job that has nothing to do with sports. They have real lives that don’t involve chasing down Chilly and Rick for quotes and scoops. This is more of a hobby and not a job since (I am assuming a little here) they don’t get paid to do any of this. So in order to live their lives while following their favorite football team, they allow those who might have the time to stay on top of things to help them out when things like this happen. I am sure they will have a post at some point detailing all the cuts and roster moves, but for now, with all this time left to go, there is no problem with creating a place for those who want to talk about roster moves to talk about possible roster moves.

T jack gives us a diff. look if Favre is getting crushed….like carolina last year. But I still think Sage was a better backup and he did alot of studying last year from the way it looked
Rosenfels seemed to look at his time on a team with Favre as a learning experience and seemed to make the most of it.

Rosenfels trade: the good and bad
The good: we keep Jackson. We keep Webb, who I have to admit seems to have a world of potential, and swagger. We lose a potentially complaining voice in the locker room. This opens a roster spot for Rhys Lloyd. We get a draft pick, which will be helpful considering our aging group of veterans.
The bad: we lose a quarterback who can manage a game behind Jackson. If it comes down to Webb at any point, you can throw out the offensive playbook and just play “draw it in the dirt” football.
god assesment
i am very worried about our depth at QB now. And from here on out, the only reason that we are going to keep lloyd, is because the vikes dont plan on resigning longwell
Lloyd's kickoffs last night
He was crushing the ball against the Broncos. Time after time his kickoff landed 7 or 8 yards deep in the end zone. One time a Bronco took the ball out and then that was fun watching him get utterly hammered by Nate Triplett. After that, the Broncos started to take a knee every time.
Yes, Lloyd is worth a roster spot, and no, he’s not any threat to Longwell ever. Maybe we keep both for several years, and Longwell eventually retires, and then Lloyd has his opportunity. Longwell has the place kicker job, period.
Gratitude to Rosenfels?
He brought talent generally, but the negative stuff, the complaints, the whining about not being the starter or backup even though he couldn’t beat out Tarvaris Jackson. Maybe it was just time for him to go.
to the media, apparently all the time
Based on the number of news stories playing the violin for poor Sage Rosenfels, and how he arrived here thinking he would have a chance to start, and then we got Favre, and then he’s the #3, etc, etc, apparently a lot.
The recent “schism” story about how Favre supposedly didn’t respect Childress, and turned out to be true, possibly had Rosenfels as its source.
But were there any whining quotes from Sage?
I never saw one, but I don’t pretend to have seen all the news.

and not this practice stuff chilly claims, that nobody else sees. I think he clearly outplayed Jackson. as far as the complaining? I guess i never heard that
Wow.
That’s PURELY speculation. No one knows who leaked anything. And there is no evidence of him complaining. Grow up.
by PurplePeopleEaters on Sep 3, 2010 10:30 PM CDT up reply actions
The leak stuff is speculative.
Sage did blow off some interviews regarding Favre’s arrival and return. He also declined to be interviewed in camp this year when Webb got a few reps ahead of him. It’s true that he never complained publicly which is applaudable, but it’s also clear he’s been upset and disgruntled at times this offseason.
by CanadianViking on Sep 3, 2010 10:42 PM CDT up reply actions
Can you blame him? He’s human afterall. And he was obviously he 2nd best QB on this roster. So showing some frustration is understandable. But their is no evidence he was becoming a distraction or being detrimental to the team.
I know he’s making millions, we shouldn’t feel sorry for him, etc etc. But no one wants to be buried on the depth chart.
by PurplePeopleEaters on Sep 3, 2010 10:50 PM CDT up reply actions
I didn't blame him for anything and hope he has better luck in NY.
It did appear he was disgruntled so it’s possible he was becoming a distraction behind closed doors even though there’s no publicly available evidence other than some rumors. I don’t agree that he was the 2nd best QB either. In the two years he’s been on our team he’s had two poor training camps and one big preseason performance against the Ram’s third stringers. Rosenfels has gotten a lot of props because of people’s dislike of TJ rather than anything Sage has shown on the field.
by CanadianViking on Sep 3, 2010 11:04 PM CDT up reply actions
extending Jackson
The Vikings can and should soon make a strong effort to re-sign Jackson. We need him, and we are lucky to have him.
who else do we have?
webb isn’t going to start anytime soon. And unless we want to give up a couple of second rounders and player to trade up in the draft, we wont be getting a starter anytime soon.
i agree for this year
but that’s because we’ve passed on qb’s in the draft. Lost Thigpen, and now we’re passing on Sage. Can’t say we need Jackson when the choice could have went either way
TJack as a backup again next year
Keeping Tjack is not such a bad idea. He can be career backup. He knows the play book (he’s had 5 years to study it). He can run like the wind and is strong. He shows flashes of talent in between his inconsistency. And who doesn’t think the next year our starting QB won’t be named Donovan? Another aged QB that will come in at the last minute of camp to save our butts.
I know why we still have tjoke!
chillyi sleeping with tjoke. That has to be the answer. I rack my brain and could not think of any other reason.
good thing i am seeing right now
after this year, we are going to be getting a lot of cap space back. That means we can give greenway and leber a decent extension. They really deserve it.

Denver’s rumored to be shopping CB Alphonso Smith for a 5th round pick. Mile High Report even opines the Broncos were “showing” him to the Vikings last night (he’s the one who picked Webb).
Question is is Smith worth it? He was a high 2nd rounder last year. Not sure where he’d rank right now on the Vikings depth chart.
Damn Denver gave up a first round pick from Chicago in the Cutler trade to get that guy and now they are shopping him a year later? Crazyiness.
Both of them should be moved to the PS or cut

I think I’d prefer Smith to those two, but I think you’re right the difference might not be worth the trouble. Coming out, Smith was a production-over-tools type prospect, and thus far he seems both undersized and a bit slow. I think he’d play better in a pure zone scheme like the Vikings’, though (he has good instincts and ball skills, just can’t play man).
Corner’s a real tricky spot. It’s obviously a concern, particularly opening against Brees and Co., who will likely pick on guys like Wright and Sherels all night long. On the other hand, in a few weeks guys like Cook and Griffin will maybe return. So then a guy like Smith would just likely join the ranks of Allen and Sheppard down on the depth chart.

One that might be interesting is the Browns have cut Casey Bender, guard, South Dakota State.
Bill Noethlich
I meant to say something about Bill Noethlich Noethlich, the tackle out of Southwest Minnesota State who the Vikings cut before the Broncos game. He hung around in training camp and the preseason for a long time. I bet he surprised a lot of people who never gave him a second thought. He fought his way through a lot of challenges. I give him a round of applause.
We better get a decent backup.
Tjack is done. I cannot stand him. He stank in the preseason against like 3rd stringers, what makes Childress think he can do better against ie the Jets D?
you're joking right?
we just trade away a decent backup, and … you want us to go and sign another backup, when there probably aren’t any available as good as the one we just traded? LOL.
It is what it is. Just let it go. Stop clamoring things you already know won’t happen.
We need a decent backup who could start if need arises.
Not someone who can only play decent off the bench.
The thing is, every team needs a capable backup
and we might get a worse QB, but a hell of a lot cheaper as well. now i dont think that we need to get a QB to start, i do think that we need one as insurance.
Hard Knocks
I just laugh everytime they show Mark Sanchez with a Taco Bell hat on. Why? I cant pin-point it. I do think he should take the leaf blower off his back before he scrambles though.
I dont see how the Vikings dont go after Housh. Its just a no brainer. They will throw some caaish his way. No way we can go into the season with Cami as the second best WR on the team. Camis a sneaky #3. We will all learn to love that guy before its all said and done. Trust me on that. Cami comming here will go down as one of Brads best moves. Also, this team is far from done making trades before the deadline.

probably true, but the chemistry between favre and camarillo looked good.
however, berrian did finally have a really nice game in the nfccg. i just think camarillo is going to be a reliable target who cathes a lot of balls this year.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
I agree with all of that.
Camarillo is going to be that reliable guy on third downs and convert a lot of the first downs that Chester did for us last year. He’s a good pickup for us and he’ll make a lot of plays in the short-middle of the field.

Too many players too few roster spots.
I guess spielman/chillydog are not interested in an explosive running back that is also a servicable reciever that is also a pretty good return man.
who is gonna return kicks / punts?
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
It might be
just to start collecting draft choices for next year. But in my opinion, that shouldn’t outweigh putting your best players on the field.

Back to the thread at hand...
I see Chris Clark OT being cut, he was just awful this preseason, Patrick Brown OT to PS.
The Wright – Sherels loser gets cut the other goes to the PS after Ced comes back.
T Johnson DT, Montgomery DE – even though he’s played well.
All undrafted WR’s
I Johnson RB, the Tahi – D’imperio loser – too close to call.
Austin OG, Anderson S, Shuler TE
My surprise cuts: Cooper C, and Triplett LB – both to PS
by nmvikesfan on Sep 4, 2010 1:39 AM CDT via mobile reply actions
hope not
Don’t like that list.
Although your New Mexico guy DeAndre Wright could make the team as the dime back for a few weeks, until Cook or Griffin can return.
I don’t want to make predictions at this point of cuts because the Vikings may have a lot of key personnel moves they need to make, and loose lips sink ships. Other teams could be reading this board to try to get a sense of what the Vikings will do.
John David Booty
Now that Booty was cut by the Texans (and could be added to their practice squad), I expect at least one post calling for his return as the backup quarterback. Haven’t seen it yet, though. Surprising.
Free JDB!!!! Bring him back! (Does that do it for ya?) ;)
What you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. Marcus Sherels and DeAndre Wright
I hope the Vikings name Sherels to the practice squad, and Wright to the team (at least until Cook or Griffin can return). Then perhaps move Wright to the PS.
Give these guys a chance! They play hard.
Marcus Sherels is only 175 lbs, but Bobby Bryant played at 170 and had 51 career INTs. Sherels looked graceful picking off a pass in the preseason.
Wright plays with heart.
Both have talent. Keep our guys.
twenty names to cut
Offense:
Austin, Battles, Biddle, Brown, Brown, Cooper,Clark, D’Imperio, Dugan, Hamilton, Johnson, Mills, Radovich, Payne
Defense:
Anderson, Johnson,Montgomery, Sherels, Triplett, D.Wright

So far I'm 100% but a lot of names to go.
Cooper and Colt Anderson are both tough cuts to make. But have to be done I think

"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"

How about Evans or Everson Griffen?
Can we drop one of them? I bet we keep them. Trade one later for a O-Lineman or CB prospect.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"

They are just so talented and valuable.
A guy like Colt Anderson is so replaceable. Its not like he is a great safety.

Mills and D'Imperio really?
those two had really good preseasons
Yes but to keep them you have to get rid of other really good players.
Mills always gets hurt and D’Imperio just wasn’t putting his head into the wall like Tahi was.
He needs a year on the PS. Mills is done I bet.

He is already on the IR right?
He looked good but I think all teams passed on him. I could be wrong.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
No, Hardesty
Didn’t he pass waiver wire already?
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
no, he went down with a torn left acl, he got put on ir / parker got cut today by wash.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
Doesn't Hardesty have to pass waiver before IR. Just like Jaymar did?
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
probably so, but he is out for the year now,
and if someone picks him up, i think they have to put him on their 53 man roster.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
Maybe, That one I’m not sure about. I thought all 1st year players had to go through waivers but maybe that rule is controlled by TC timing.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
who's gonna pick up rb with a shredded knee?

IR players do not count on the 53 man roster
We have Jaymar and Leman on the list now. We are simply stashing them for a year. They can’t practice or anything
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
Little known fact
We cut him. He passed through waivers. We placed him on IR.
If you want to know who your linebacker of the future is take a look. They aren’t paying him a salary to rest and recupperate for nothing.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
Oh yeah. He is a an absolute nut on the field.
The guys from the Panther site hated that he got cut. They said he is just a monster in the middle but goes offf kinda crazy on the field. We could use that.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
if a team puts a player on the waiver wire,
the team that picks him up HAS to put him on their 53 man roster. i don’t think any team will pick up hardesty becuz he just sustained a season ending knee injury. he will not be able to play this year. if another team picks him up, he will not be on their I/R.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
Players can go on the IR after today.
They can go on any time after an injury. At least I think they can.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
Is there an IR limit.
I’m sure there is.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
that's why hardesty will end up on cleveland's ir.
and they can pick up willie parker if they wanted to also.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
But he can go on ours also
53 man roster today. I/R tomorrow. Fill 53 man spot tomorrow.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
like a quick pick up and cut?
are there any rules regarding the amount of time a team has to retain a player before cutting him again?
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
Don't contracts come into play with IR/waivers?.
I mean Tom Brady was on IR two years ago and nobody had a shot at him.

"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
When a veteran player gets hurt during the season he can be put on I/R with no problem. The same does not hold true for newer players prior to the 53 man roster being finalized.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
you are avoiding the question...
hardesty got hurt. he got cut. i assume that he will go on cleveland’s i/r if he passes waivers (which he should due to his torn acl). you say another team can pick him up and put him on “their” i/r. i say no, they have to put him on their 53 man roster as a rule. you say, but they have until tomorrow. i ask, cna the pick-up/then-cut w/ quick turnover? is that within the rules? and hardesty is a rookie (if that means anything).
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
It could be one of those “if you do this, you will get payback at some point,” like the Hutchinson deal. I’m not sure Hardesty can come back from the numerous knee operations he’s had.
that is the risk. No physical to pass requirement.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
yea, that's my point, what other team would
pick him up? it’s a terrible risk. also, hardesty had acl on his “other” knee his freshman year. he had a foot injury, shoulder injury and drained knee in college. but this is his first surgery on this knee.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
Yes
I think since he is on waivers anyone can claim him. Then place him on their I/R tomorrow.
Then fill the 53 man roster spot after that. Yes.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
Hardesty was good, but injury-prone
He had some major knee problems in college. Now this. The Browns took a chance on him, and failed. Their Colt McCoy experiment is not going well either.
Colt is a QBOF- We must have him.

there are no rules on the number od rb's a team can keep.

I meant with the 53 person roster.
I posted the 20 players I thought would be cut. If we kept a 4th RB we would need to drop someone else. Thats all I meant.

"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"

The Vikings brought White in for a 12th hour workout before the draft last year, so that’s interesting in that regard. I’m not as infatuated with Webb as some. Of course, White looked really bad in Miami last year, and I’m not that infatuated with him, either.
The fit’s hit the shan in a hurry for some of these 2009 2nd rounders: Alphonso Smith, Pat White…
Thus far the only thing that’s really bugged me was Seattle trading Josh Moore. That guy would’ve been a starter for Minny in week 1, and he’s good enough that he’s not necessarily relegated to special teams once Cook and Griffin return.
I guess the Reynaud trade bugged me a little, too. I remember after Chilly gave Mewelde Moore his walking papers they had a very vanilla return game for a long time. Let’s hope we’re not going back there.
As long as they inclure Moss in the deal

He has them keeping 10 (!) D-Linemen. They are too talented and valuable to be cut; likely one or two will be traded for pieces we need (O-Line, corner, draft picks, etc.)
Know the value of your spare parts; special team guys like Triplett, etc. are dime a dozen. Pass rushing D-Linemen are worth a lot.
Just like us waiving Battle and Austin. If you can’t make the Patriot Line your not very good.

Battles
I believe we haven’t had word of any kind yet on him. We fans were expecting him to be cut, but I saw him playing Thursday night at left tackle.
more cuts by other teams
Chargers: rookie WR out of Tulane Jeremy Williams (talented but has an injury history)
Giants: WR Ryan Wolfe. Good in college.
Redskins: Selvish Capers (right tackle only), and Tyrone Carter (drafted by the Vikings several years ago)
Thats a great trade. The Lions take TE Sheffler off of the Broncos and then send a TE for their 2nd round CB. Who is running the show in Detroit. It isn’t Matt Millen.

I like Leinart
He has been in a bad system for him. Coach has never liked his not such a cannon for an arm.
But if he is out of that contract he would be worth investigating. Forget ESPN. We are talking about a 6’5" accurate Heisman QB. Worth investigating.

Georgi State held their first ever DIV 1 football game a couple nights ago. Drew 30,000 people in Atlanta. They outdrew the Braves. That isn’t going away easy.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"

yes, but
A lot of players would drop out of “college” (no real education going on there anyway) and go to minor league football if it meant they got paid something.
yea, but that means they have to get paid....paying players = less profit = bad business.

With the new labor deal, the NFL may create such a league. From Sirius NFL radio last night, it sounds like the owners want it to be financially self-sustaining.

Now we can keep EversonGriffen or Evans
But that won’t help Longwell kick-off.
I’m sorry. There has to be something wrong with that guy. Kicking is all in the head. He tweeted the other day “I;m sorry. I will do better”. why didn’t he just kick better the whole time?

So, looking like T.J. might get a chance to prove himself this year and crash and burn prove himself next year as a career backup legitimate starter. Which makes me thinking Webb is the man in 2012 unless we get some massive trade or draft pick for the next Marino incarnate. That is if there is a 2012 season to finish. Can't understand the Housh talk here
The guy plays the slot. When they didn’t get him, they drafted Harvin for that same spot. Now with Rice out and Harvin covering outside, they brought in Camarillo to play the slot. So with Housh, you’d have 3 slot guys when Rice comes back. Not happening.

One draft pick unaccounted for
LB Nate Triplett. I really thought he’d be waived and signed to the practice squad. With all the LB’s ahead of him, I’m surprised I haven’t seen his name mentioned yet.
Especially with Lehman being on the IR
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
Disregard
I see he has already been waived. That’s 6 of 8 draft picks on the final roster, with two possibly going to the practice squad. I’d say that makes for a good draft class, pending their performance in the regular season.
The 6 draft picks are who?

"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"

Farwell, Henderson, Brinkley, Tyrell Johnson, and Schuler are all locks on ST already. We can afford to cut one of the three guys I mentioned and still have a really strong unit.
by CanadianViking on Sep 4, 2010 4:34 PM CDT up reply actions
well how many of your 45 do you want to protect.
And slow guys like big O-Lineman aren’t really helpful. It takes a bunch of talented people for 1/3rd of the time.
Try and make a list? Its not easy.
I really don’t want Jared Allen out there breaking his leg.
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
He'll stick
Lots of fans saying they should make trade bait out of all those talented backups on the d-line, but need to keep in mind — a year from now, Pat Williams will be retired, Ray Edwards will be an unrestricted free agent, K Williams will be in his 9th year, and Allen in his 8th. Those young backups are too valuable to get rid of, including Griffen.
Not true
You are talking about players that will not be active on the 45 day game roster. So they just sit. And take up space when a regular player gets hurt. Webb’s OK because a third QB is allowed free of charge. But the other guys are wasted unless they can play.
Every single person except QBs started for us at one time or another last year. Every one of them. That is what we have to plan for.

"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"

Bingo
He’s also a Minnesota native. I have to believe he’d at least be able to beat out Jon Cooper for the backup spot. Best thing – he can cover for the injured Sullivan at center, letting Herrera move back to his more familiar RG spot. Otherwise, they’re starting the rookie DeGeare at RG vs. the Saints, and that scares me…
Why?
Cooper or Cook can play center and leave Herrera at RG
"Is it normal to wake up in the morning in a sweat because you can't wait to beat another human's guts out?"
Joe Kapp
They can play.
They just can’t play well.
Your fantasy football expert since Jerry Rice's rookie year.
Well the question is
can they multiple positions better than most and does their versatility save us a roster spot. Since Cooper made the team I guess we know that the coaches don’t like Herrera at center or DeGeare at guard for now.

Where ar ethe rumors coming out of
Is this going to be a quick deal or drawn out. Housh doesn’t have time to toy around if he’s going to a new system
Housh was guaranteed 7 Million to be paid by the Seahawks. He has all the time in the world.

Why is no one asking why he was cut?

Salary+youth movement+Pete Carroll's a little nutty on the personnel moves so far.

Uh, I don't think the GM would allow a 7 Million dollar mistake because
Carroll’s a little nutty. Its not like Carroll makes the decisions in a vacuum.
Somewhere a 7 Million dollar issue lurks for anyone wanting to look.

Ok I looked it up
Hes slower than before he came to the Seahawks. He hated their system and if they cut him now it would save them big money in the next few years. Thanks for the tip.

why Housh was cut
According to an NFL analyst on Sirius NFL radio this evening, Housh was cut partially because of his performance, and partially because he was a locker room cancer. He is a very independent thinker, and he is very outspoken. The Seahawks had him playing X, meaning deep routes. He prefers to work the middle.
So I hope we skip him.

we could use a guy who likes to go over the middle. let berrian and harvin handle deep routes. and camarillo will just imitate welker.
in the future there will be no war...there will only be rollerball.
If we get Housh that would mean that four out of our five receivers can play any of the WR positions. That’s a lot of flexibility and fresh legs if used properly.

Housh should be in the mix
everyone should check out that bettorbelieveit.com website. I am profiting huge following the Baron Capper, the guy is killing it
Wow.
I’m surprised by the release of Walker. Only way it make any sense is if they’re bringing in Housh or someone else.
BCB free since 8/24/10 and happier for it.

How about he was slow, couldn't create separation
unless the defender falls down, and can’t jump anymore. Except for that and the fact that his knees probably really can’t handle it I think your correct.
This Viking team is not putting up with mediocrity. If you aren’t full speed and strength we have to kiss you goodbye.

See, I agree with that...
.. I just didn’t think they did. I thought they believed he could be useful simply because of his size. That’s why I was surprised.
Guess they saw it too…

Might be a mistake, but he gave me a +1, not you...
… though I’m not sure I’m proud of that.

You have to figure out whether he mean’t you or me/

Not confirmed at all
This is old news and has been disputed by his agent who says several teams are still talking to Housh

I'm glad he made the team
His father played more than 10 years in the NFL, and was productive for multiple teams. If Shuler Jr. can do something like that, I hope he is a Viking for his full career. We did a good thing by drafting him, I think.
Griffen does but Sidney doesn't.
Sid got put on the PUP but Griffin still active so he must be making good progress in his return.

I smell a CB and WR.
Who will be cut later? Shuler ,Evans, Griffen, Special team specialist?
Much more likelly that a player for player trade occurs to fill the position?
My brain is fried trying to thik of possibilities.

Here is the official 53 man roster
This means that Cedrick is not on the reserved PUP list that keeps him out for a minimum of 6 weeks.
Thats the official word from the Vikes.

That is great
It’s the best news we’ve had on Griff in quite a while. I can’t wait to see him back in action.
they will just toy with him a little...

Where is the waiver wire pickups ?
I hate waiting for all the Editors to crawl out of bed . Can’t someone delegate different assignments during these spped weeks ?
