Minnesota Vikings Sign Seven Players To Practice Squad
The Vikings have released the names of the seven players that they've signed to the eight-man practice squad thus far. Those players are as follows:
S Colt Anderson
G Thomas Austin
WR Freddie Brown
FB Ryan D'Imperio
DT Tremaine Johnson
WR Logan Payne
CB Marcus Sherels
D'Imperio being on the practice squad means that every member of Minnesota's 2010 draft class is on the team in some capacity, with the exception of fifth-round selection Nate Triplett.
The Vikings have room to sign one more player to the practice squad. Personally, I'm not sure whether it's going to be a guy they had in their camp this summer, or if they have their eye on somebody that was released by another team.
In other news, there's still no movement on the T.J. Houshmandzadeh front, and nobody's sure that there's going to be any movement at all. After all, nobody is even sure about whether or not the Vikings have spoken, are speaking, or are going to speak with the former Bengal and Seahawk about joining the Vikings. To be honest, I'm not completely sure if we need him, but we'll see what the front office thinks over the course of the day.
In a site-related note, I want to thank everyone for making yesterday one of the biggest traffic days in site history. Thanks to all you die-hard Viking fans out there wanting to know the latest about roster cuts and who's making the team and the various rumors out there, the site had over 15,000 hits and more than 30,000 page views. That's pretty darn good. . .not many days have been bigger than that since this site got started, and we haven't even played a meaningful game yet this year.
If anything else comes out of Winter Park about the roster today, we'll have it here for your viewing and analyzing pleasure. Until then, enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Let's just be thankful
we didn’t sign this guy a couple years ago for his outrageous amount.
Yep
Houshmandzadeh = No Harvin
Migraines and all, I know which guy I’d rather have right now.
Oh, well. . .the decision Houshmandzadeh made last year during free agency is the sort of decision a person makes when winning doesn’t top the list of stuff they’re most interested in.

Not sure if we need him says it all
We are not sure about how we will fare without Sidney. I certainly don’t think adding a guy with those credentails is going to hurt us any so why not?
See where Troy Smith got cut. Now I seriously doubt the Vikings would consider giving him a shot at backup but if I were to have a choice between him and Jax-just saying. But we all know Chilly will not let his pet project go. Unless something drastic happens we will have T-jax until Chilly goes.
Unless we pick up someone in FA we all know what that means for the 2011 season.
Kennard McGuire may be calling Winter Park in a desperate effort to generate rumors that the Vikings are talking about his client Houshmandzadeh, which is probably only true to the extent that they are telling him to stop harrashing them and to inform Housh to kindly drop dead. The Seahawks are paying Housh 7 million to just go away. What does that say to you? There is abount as much market for this guy as there is for bad breath. The cost of printing his jerseys alone is horridly excessive.
LLV ,
When will you ever tust in my evaluations . The loss of Triplett solidified my point . Go back and review my draft assessment . I said 1,3,5,7 would be tough to get what we need . And that the 5 and 7 picks could be used to move up . Shuler is being held back to place on the practice squad . I hope that by Douche negociating with New England . That means Brett may get Moss with the NYG #5 pick . We most likely will re sign Walker for less .
I see nobody had info on Cedric . He is back practicing and is still actice . Sully was out hobbling along and don’t arrear ready as Brad is masking a more serious injury than he is willing to let on .
These are the stories we are interested in . Not Gonzo’s lack of Faith in his journalistic non-decision making .
I’ll keep you posted on future Viking blunders like the second half predicted fall from Grace . I did state earlier that when and not if the targeted players in Rd #1 were taken that moving out of the 1st would be a good move . And we will pay dearly for giving up an extra 3rd As he may have fallen to us all along . Missing P. Cox . Noorwood or Edds later may have been a bad mistake .
But what do I know . It seems to be what I know well in advance that embarasses you . Where’s my apology ? Mr . Integrity !!!
I read the opposite from Zuglad on sully and cedric
He said cedric wont be ready for thursday but sully could be.
Hard to believe when those that watch them practice say other-wise .
Brad could be the Mad Genius here after all . We will see !!!
Brad like Brett were throwing out garbage to ESPN . I se the same here .
I personally hope that both can contribute . Including C. Cook in wee #1 . But Brad isn’t required to show a list of accurate injuries . And he is doing a good job of snowballing all of us in that department . I see Griffen and Cook playing in four or five WR sets . As I see Sully resting on the inactive list . The DTs for NO don’t scare me in putting DeGeare in for some work .
We may need to decide on guys like Adam Terry released by INDY . If he is healthy and not snatched up . Or Hartwig formerly of PITT .
Who stole Triplett anyway ? SEA,NE,NYJ,GB they all like to sabatage .
What do you think our chances of getting hartwig or terry are (%-wise)?
It seems to me if we were interested in an older center we would have kept Birk(I know things may have changed but they seem committed to sully).
50% if we deal ahead with St.L or DET
St.L has a good OC . DET could use the picks for OT . Douch3e to NE could prompt Brett’s wish of getting Moss . Vasher/CB/SD could fill the PR/CB void . Hardy/BUF is a tall option . A health Abdul Hodge back with Greenway is interesting to me . Willie Parker is still a question mark with a increase in rushing needed . They took Mewelde our fourth remember .
Sorry Gonzo . Had to school the young feller . He will learn why I came to this site . My so called predictions are a lot like Einstein's Theories .
In the beginnings they look like ramblings . Relative to time spent . They come true in the darkest of ways . And like E . So many more predictions are waiting for someone open-minded enough to solve the others .
I visualize this team as a future Dynasty . I don’t look simply at what last year could have been . Or what this year may be . Once again I see the need for OL,CB,WR being held back . Cooper is expendable though I like his strength . But the loss of the 3rd.rd pick (WR or WLB) and the Everson Griffen pick , though he could be the best of all in the end , should have been used to strengthen our watered down areas . I don’t want us to become GB or CHI ? They are good teams . They could have been great if they solidified their weaknesses . Poor drafting is their downfalls . This was Brad’s first falloff . It maybe in the second half of the draft but it still slows our progress . NO got Colston and others in the later rds. and look at their excelleration . I call out LLV because he is falsely respected for his future opinions . He isn’t right that often when dealing with me . Only in my half questions used to see if he can ever see ahead . Instead of whats in his face . He lacks the faith in others as he appears to lack in his team and self . Too deep for a novice journalist like yourself to comprehend I know . But truth the same . I love to spell incorrectly and appear to ramble . It is my style . You and others will never show the intellect or self confidence to keep up with what appears at times to be a childs view . Yet weeks or months down the path . You see that it was you that had the child like view in review .
We are close to ready team wise . As I unfortunately predicted the early bye will be a blessing . Ilike our chances with NO,GB,DAL . It is those grass games out East that Brett will need to will the team to win . I like our new grass players like Lito , C. Cook , Gerhart and DeGeare . I see 11 instead of 12 with these hidden injuries . Still enough if GB’s FO can’t except Brett’s accomplishments . And create a self identity . Just the weakness we need to get to the playoffs . SKOL on Brother .
Sorry to I have been bashing the APC Hypocrits . They are simply doing what they were programmed from birth to do . FOLLOW and not LEAD . -——GP is out of here …………..#4 is $$$$$$$$$$..
like Nostrodamus??
vague/rambling enough to be interpreted to fit any situation?

When it comes to the Vikings it seems so . Not really though . He used drugs to make him revolations on different vague situations based on time .
I use a combination of applied Wisdom .. Along with basic tendencies in our new FO . And understanding of outside forces . Holding my own biases and prejudices aside . Then include combinations of examples both recent and in the past . History does tend to repeat itself ? Then add in the tough love angle to keeping the reader in line with my off line humor , misspelling and antics . It gives out a soothing blend of self imposed intimidation from within the reader . Playing off of my Hannibal Lector background in Psycology . Along with the fanatical fans dreams and over zealous expectatons . That is step number one . We will get back to the other 12 in what appears to be a parralell to most of your AA meetings to brng a bit of false comfort .
I did offer a Budweiser Vender to go to a AA meeting with me . I don’t drink . Never been drunk . But to pull up in his Bud Truck would be a classic ! He declined for now . I spoke in a AA meting once . They tried to convince this Psyc guy that former Alcoholics make the best teachers . I explained that young , educated and disciplined teachers will get more accross . Just like in football coaching . The Editors here play the Alcoholic victom sometimes here at DN . Starting a site doesn’t make someone a great analysist . Hell if that were true . The inspired Journalist Major that typed all my papers would have appeared the be the Psyc Major . If you saw the understanding in the words they typed . J-Bo-Vike may have been right ? It just might be Mrs. Gonzo dictating all these Estrogen filled comments lately . Thru her little Journlist Major girlfriend Gonzo . As he lays out across the bed in his little purple see thru teddy ! Keep questioning thou ? That’s what the teacher always tells his students that haven’t yet developed the ability to reason why yet ???
they're the best...
you’re like Ayn Rand meets Stephen King.
that’s not a bad thing… and my Nostro comment wasn’t a knock.

Trust me I hate my predictions . I tend to predict the bad . Not a real help in trying to focus on the many positives about our team and it's goals ahead .
The players when interviewed are not without confidence when speaking on the Saints game . We will have to see how healthy they really are . Without Sharper’s INTs they lose the Opportunistic Defense classification . They didn’t compensate for the loss either did they ? I haven’t checked .
I had hopes of finding more Diamonds in the ruogh this year . I do like the trade options . I wished we could have traded a DL . To increase our chances of a good QB or DT in the next draft . I see a QB and some good Defensive picks in 2011 .
Yea, he who can't spell or construct a proper sentence.....
just ramble on and pretend to know what your talking about. You call out LLV? My college education did not teach me to understand one word you said. I will stay with Chilly thanks anyway. Please gothic make a point that we can call you out on later.

He almost made it through
6 rounds of the draft.
I love how most fans fall in love with backup and 3rd string QBs as if they’re going to be future Hall of Famers for making a couple of plays in a preseason (while not managing to avoid a sack when the coaches said “don’t get sacked, whatever you do”).
Thumbs down.
Rookie Webb>veteran Leinart. Smith I like but Webb is something special.

I was at the last game
some guy behind me had no clue who Webb was or why there was talk of him making the team. I told him he reminded me of Vick. He looked at me like I was crazy…until Webb scrambled for like 40 yards on a broken play. I looked back and it looked like his eyes were ready to pop out of his head.
If anyone can make Webb more of a pocket presence and hurry up his progressions and ability to read defenses, he will be very special.
No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.

He isn't Vick .
He is more intelligent than Vick . Has a better arm but not spiral . Is not as talented as Vick as in explosive . But has better instincts to hit the holes . He has no pressure . He will hide behind the Circus of 2010 . He has better height than Vick . Strength . Arm length . Hand size . Ect….
Then we can go on and on about OL , DL , talent around him , no smothering of jewelry , marijuana yet or love for dogs that kill and how to profit off that with low life family guys ?
I’d have more to say but ? You should have simply gave him the Dailynorseman reference like I do to the lost Barbarian friends . And all will get better in time ?
I cannot tell which side you are on.
At the end of your posts could you please post something like:
Vick>Webb
so I can tell what you are trying to say.
Let me slow down for the novice in the room .
Webb has more upside for the cost and future expectations . Vick is a talented athlete who still trumps a 6th rd pick from a small school . It is like comparing Chester to Toby . Much different guys . I will be shooting myself in the foot hear but ? Closer to a yound Donnovan . Without the in game experience and ability to read defenses . Vick simply uses blazing speed to compensate for inexperience throwing . Webb seems to be fundamentally sound along with having good measurements that Vick never possesed .
Does that help youngster !!!
I agree.
Give Webb at least a year playing behind Favre and he will be the heir apparent. He has no fear of stepping onto this stage like TJack does. Great athlete with excellent smarts for the game. If Farve retires, it would be worth it for the front office to hire him to work with Webb in the offseason. He’ll make Vick look like TJack.
I see a strange transition . He showed some fundimental skills at tackling and this can give him other opportunities on the field .
Does he want to be like Sage and be inactive for 16 games while trusting the FO to take care of him . Or will he seek playing time in other roles ? Time will tell . Being a sixth rounder is a benefit indeed in any decision made . But let’s not talk starter yet . #2 behind McNabb in 2011 works for me barring a high draft pick along with it .
I'm kind of sad that
Ian Johnson didn’t get reassigned to the PS. I think he would have developed into a good KR/PR.
I liked him .
He didn’t seem to push to be indespensable . You know .
How did we get Freddie Brown to stick .
Brown/OT had a year left I thought . And Hamilton , Biddle , Triplet I . Johnson all couldn’t have been snatched up . I see Shuler and Freddie Brown switching as we bring in a OC,OT,CB or WR . Maybe two moves in all at first .
sidney
Sidney wont be able to play until much later then week 6 believe me. I hope he recovers that soon but don’t count on that one, Housh up in the air about him, maybe. Mcneil from SD is who we really need, We need Brett Favre protected period MT Mckinney will get him killed Trade MT Worthless to SD for Mcneil, Favre can make recievers great always has and will now. CB Talib cut from Tampa would be another good pickup, Dont like reynard gone or keeping TJ but its done maybe use Webb as a KR a reach but he handles the ball well and sees lanes just a thought
lots of bootleg right coming this year...

Berrian Released???
Berrian would have been cut under similar circumstances. Berrian was severely over-paid in ’08… but the Vikings simply do not have the numbers like the ’hawks at the WR position….. or perhaps a regime that is willing to own up to their mistakes and move on.

Vikings and Packers reportedly fought over Breno Giacomini...

Honestly, I’m not sure why. He hasn’t done anything since being drafted 2 years ago. He “projects” as an LT, but he has yet to demonstrate on the field that he’ll ever actually fulfill his potential. The Vikings and Packers both have apparently promised to get him on their 53 man roster soon. Meh. I’m far from an expert, so maybe he’ll turn into a pro-bowler.
But I honestly don’t get it.

Monday practice squad moves
Just caught the news that the Vikings have released G Thomas Austin from the practice squad and replaced him with G Seth Olsen, a 4th round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2009. They also filled the final practice squad spot with OT Thomas Welch, taken in the 7th round of this year’s draft by the Patriots. At least they’re continuing to address the offensive line in some way. The interesting part — a number of people have speculated that the Vikings might soon bring in a fifth WR for the regular roster, and bump rookie TE Mickey Shuler to the practice squad in the 8th and final spot that had been held open before today’s signings. I’d be surprised if they don’t bring in another WR, so I’m curious as to whether a practice squad player will then be release, or if Shuler himself might be waived and not signed to the PS.

Nate Triplett
Telling that he didn’t make the PS. Still, his fellow linebackers at the U of M, Simoni Lawrence and Lee Campbell, didn’t even make it this far. Good story, being a guy out of MN, drafted by the hometown team and everything, but frankly I wondered what they were thinking when they drafted him — he almost certainly could’ve been had as a UDFA like his fellow ex-Gophers.
The guy I wanted them to pick in Triplett’s spot, Iowa’s Kyle Calloway, didn’t make the Bills either, so … shows what I know.
