The Vikings are going to hit Nawrlens like Hurricane Katrina??
REALLY??!! woooooooo! SKOL VIKES!!

Wow.
Can’t believe he said that. Worst. Metaphor. Ever.
"Whoever said that the pen is mightier than the sword never encountered automatic weapons."
While I agree
If he could have found something similar to say about the Vikings, he’d likely be largely applauded.

I doubt it
If he had said that the Saints were going to drop on the Vikes like a collapsing bridge, I’m sure that would go over about as well as the hurricane metaphor.

Maybe "applauded" was the wrong word
But I don’t think nearly as many people would be bent out of shape over it.

You've got to be kidding me...
bad taste is bad taste. And I didn’t hear anything about this until I saw it on your site. I still remember the bridge collapse and it was quite unnerving hearing about it because the images it brought to mind were horrible. I would have a hard time having any respect for somebody using that type of metaphor.
I can understand that it got old hearing about the recovery from Katrina and people acting like that made New Orleans deserving. It has been a good distraction for the city that is still struggling to recover, but I am sure that people in Minnesota aren’t necessarily over the bridge collapse, either and it was just as tragic in my mind. At least there was some warning with the hurricane…nobody driving that day could have imagined that bridge would have collapsed.
I live in Houston and was upset that more people didn’t pay attention to the damage done to the coast here when Ike hit two years ago…all the attention was still going to New Orleans because of Katrina. That doesn’t make the city bad and it sure doesn’t make the whole state bad. It shows to me how horrible the media is about sensationalizing a story…and all that does is cause people to get desensitized to things. I apologize for the bad apples that pop up…I hope in time you’ll understand that the people who really upset you make up a small minority of the people that you lump together in some of what you write. I apologize for people who have called you names and brought your family into discussions on here…that is ridiculous and those people really need to think about how they’d feel about the same treatment directed at them and their families.
Your site is a good read and I look forward to reading it throughout the season and checking in on you guys throughout the year. I think we can all agree it will be nice to have this first game behind us. I’m actually very worried about you guys down the stretch when you’re at full health…not that you don’t have a quality team with the injuries, but Rice was a beast last season and Cook was looking good at CB.

That may or may not be true
I hope in time you’ll understand that the people who really upset you make up a small minority of the people that you lump together in some of what you write
See, I’d like to believe that, but there sure are a lot of people hootin’ and hollerin’ and slappin’ high fives over there in those threads. Pretty decent percentage, actually.
But that’s the kind of people they are. I’m some guy that has the nerve to disagree with them on a football site, so obviously that means I’m insane and my wife is fat and ugly and I probably kick my dog and whatever other garbage they feel like spewing. They really are pathetic.
I apologize for people who have called you names and brought your family into discussions on here…that is ridiculous and those people really need to think about how they’d feel about the same treatment directed at them and their families.
But they don’t. Because they don’t have to. They’re schmucks that have zero accountability for what they say. Yet the majority of them have the nerve to jump up and down and whine about how I should be taken off of DN because I hurt their wittle feewings.
I’m sure that the majority of Saints fans aren’t like that, as you’ve said. . .but on both this site and CSC, the vocal minority of them have been allowed to run around completely unchecked. (I mean, they have to be unchecked. . .they cry like a little girl with a skinned knee if you attempt to take any sort of action against them.) I’m sure that many of the people that perpetuate that kind of behavior will attempt to say that this is my fault somehow, but. . .well, that’s a big, steaming pile of crap.

I'm mainly talking about when you go off on the whole city/state/fan base
As for bloggers…well, I’m coming to realize more each day how blogging is different than the real world (i.e. having the nerve to bring up people’s relatives b/c there are no ramifications for doing so). While I certainly think people should hold themselves to a higher level of accountability, I can’t mandate that they do. I mainly apologize because I am trying to empathize with you. Which is certainly hard to do because I don’t run a blog full-time and if I did, it still wouldn’t get the attention this one does.

And you're right on that front
Should I let garbage like what’s been spewed my direction affect me personally as much as I do? Probably not. But I do, and that’s entirely my fault.
Oh, well. . .if that’s my biggest fault, I’d have to say I’m doing pretty well for myself.
As decent a guy as you are about this, you’ll understand when I say that I’ll be quite happy to not see another fleur-de-lis or any more black and gold for a long time after this Thursday.

That guy Hampton is moron…. Most fans like to talk a little trash but mocking a natural disaster where 1800 fellow Americans died shows that this guy is a classless idiot. I guess if the Saints were playing the Jets it would be cool to say lets hit them “like those planes hit the World Trade Center”… Thats crap and it has nothing to do with mock outrage or being PC. What I Dislike Most About Sports Commentators is....
….that they talk over some other sports commentator that is already speaking. That is so rude, and unprofessional.
If I am talking with someone, I shut my yap, if the other person is speaking, that is showing respect for the person speaking! If I am talking, and third person jumps into the conversation, putting in his 2 cents into a conversation that they are not part of , I shut my yap until they are through with their speel… then I say, “You are crude and rude! You were not part of this conversation, that you decide to crash in on!”
When someone crashes a private conversation, I get so angry, that sometimes I have to walk away. Otherwise someone might be going to the hospital…..sometimes they do, special if they continue their tirage!
I am a retired Platoon Sergeant and I did not take this abuse even from Generals!

Vincent Jacksnon ? Justin Hartwig ?? Vasher , Tye Hill , Adam Terry or James Hardy ? I still have hope we deal for talent .

I dont know if that would be smart for the Saints.
I honestly dont think our success against the run should be attributed as much to the Williams’ as to the coaches/system. Sure they are good but the 5 guys beneath them look pretty darn good as well and thats a sign of a strong system. Everyone talks like it would be the end of the world if the Williams’ retired or had to serve their suspension but evidence so far shows our back ups to be good starter material.
I dunno..
Maybe I’m just desensitized. But at this point, these kind of comments don’t even phase me, and it just strikes me as everyone getting upset over them is being overly PC. He obviously didn’t mean anything malicious by it, he was just making a metaphor. Don’t take it as a direct attack.

It is annoying always being portrayed as the "bad guys."
We’re the guards of “the Longest Yard” or the Cowboys of “Little Giants.” If we are chronically made out to be the bad guys when something unjust happens to us no one cares. There isnt anyone outright saying “the Vikings are evil” but there is this whole negative undertone that slowly erodes the image of the Vikings organization. Now most of us are probably not reading a ton of national coverage of the Vikings so our exposure is limited to only a few pieces of negative publicity. A tiraid against one of these stories would seem to the average sports fan like a gross over reaction. Gonzo on the other hand probably reads every piece of print that has anything to do with the Vikings(sports franchise or medieval raider), so he is constantly getting pounded with this negative message and at a point you cannot take it anymore. In his mind it seems appropriate to call them out because of the built up negativity.
Its like if your stocks loose one percent in a month and you decide to sell everything. A person then chastises you for being an overreactional fool. What they do not know is that it had been losing 1% a month for the last 5 years.
Yeah, pretty much
I read basically every piece that comes out of everywhere about the Minnesota Vikings. . .and the negative stories about the Vikings outnumber the positive ones by a huge margin.
Hell, we’re still talking about the team that, every year, still gets the stupid video of them missing their pick not having the Baltimore Ravens call in their side of an agreed-to trade during the draft. . .but, in all the times that video has been played, I don’t think anyone has ever bothered to mention that the guy the Vikings got “stuck with” as a result of that whole thing might be the best all-around defensive tackle in the NFL. Why? Because saying something that reflects positively on the Vikings is verboten.
So, yes, I’m fiercely defensive of my team, because I tire of them getting crapped on continuously by people in the media, by opposing fans, and so forth. And you know what? I have a weird, wacky feeling that a lot of Viking fans feel the same way. Really, I could give a rip what non-Viking fans think of 99% of what I have to say about anything. Many of the people that are fans of teams that I have been critical of are so used to having everything printed or said about their team sugar-coated that they simply can’t handle someone trying to raise the B.S. flag.
I’ve never mandated anyone to come here. . .I’ve never forced anyone to stay. . .what I HAVE done is busted my ass over the course of 4+ years to make this site the best one dedicated to Vikings football on the internet. And you know something? That’s exactly what it is. Is that an arrogant thing to say? Probably. Do I care? Why no. . .no, I don’t.

Putting up with it for decades.
Media still playing those great moments in sports reels, like the push-off.
Viking players passed over for years before finally being acknowledged by the Hall of Fame. Just to name a couple. Like the still current all time leader in career interceptions (caught not thrown, smart asses). There was some other Viking player that was passed over a few times before induction too, oh, what the hell was his name. At the time of his retirement he held just about every Quarterback record in the books, but he got disrespected too. Was it because of his poor stats? Or because he wore purple?. Oh yeah, his name was Francis Asbury Tarkenton. Nobody ever heard of that guy. Surely non of these guys were worthy of a first ballot or even a second based on their numbers, were they?
"What is best in life?"
"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women."
The guy that's the all-time interception leader
The guy that, as it stands now, is the greatest receiver in the history of the NFL not named Jerry Rice.
The guy that originally had the record for consecutive starts and racked up 127 career sacks. (But, boy howdy, we can sure as hell show that video of him running a fumble the wrong way against the Niners eight million times. Don’t mention that later in that same game he had a sack that iced the game for the Vikings or anything.)
The center that started 240 consecutive games and was a five-time All-Pro.
Really, it’s pathetic. I’m surprised John Randle and Randall McDaniel got in, to be honest.
