Jet Cut FB Tony Richardson; Vikings: GET THIS GUY!
Tony Richardson is a BEAST of a Fullback. He was with the Vikes two years ago, then was let go and went to the Jets.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/05/jets-cut-tony-richardson/
The Jets cut him to try to save money by hoping to re-sign him after Week 1. Cheap Bastards.
When he was blocking for AD in Adrian's rookie year, Peterson went NUTS, as we all know. The Vikings can now re-sign him! The difference between a monster blocker like Tony Richardson and a doughboy like Tahi is laughable.
It's pretty simple; when Richardson was with the Vikes, they led the league in team rushing. Then, he goes to the Jets, and last year they lead the league in rushing. TIME TO BEEF UP THE RUN GAME; GET RICHARDSON BACK VIKINGS!!!

Did anyone else read the SI article on him.
I didnt realize he blocked for good Holmes, Johnson, and Peterson. They made a convincing argument that he was the reason for these runners success.
Man
I can’t believe he’s still in the league. I’d be down for signing him. That means getting rid of somebody though.
Yes, perfect situation.
Lose Tahi for an upgrade and have D’Imperio watch the best fullback over the last ten years for a season.

>_> Buuuuut... Tahi beat out D'Imperio for the FB job?
I mean, we’d get a one year upgrade, and then wind up having a worse situation than before. . . So basically, the QB situation, but for our FBs.
No
D’Imperio trained for a year by Richardson>>>>Tahi
I mean Tahi was already trained by Richardson and he is barely better than D’Imperio.
He's probably over the hill
he was a big part of the Jet’s running game last year, and if he was still a premier run blocker, the Jets probably would’ve kept him. Pass

WRONG
Rex Ryan wanted him, but the Jets GM Tannenbaum decided to cut him (a) because they don’t want to guarantee his veteran salary (they were cheap like this with Thomas Jones too, remember) and (b) they drafted a rookie FB (John Conner) and its hard to keep 2 FB

“In the last episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” Ryan and GM Mike Tannenbaum seemed at odds on whether to release Richardson. Tannenbaum seemed in favor of it, but Ryan defended Richardson, saying they needed to carry two fullbacks to implement their “Ground and Pound” offense."
But I’m sure you know better right? Have fun with freakin’ Tahi.
No your right we need to sign him right now I looked at some of the games that year this guy was huge we need him and are run game will be un stopable!!!!
If he can block a 32 year old RB to 1400 yards...
Then he still has some value.
I would be all for it.
Right on!
Class act guy. Tahi is a godd dude too but Tony is faster to hit the block even at his age
I am all for it
Ziggy, if you want to keep Favre alive this year…pay the man and cut Tahi. Our RBs can run all day behind this guy.

will never happen...
cause it makes too much sense!! (shoulda never let him leave)….. who would have thought that Birk and Richardson leaving would affect the run game..
I was really expecting Packers to cut one of their three FBs, and hoping they’d be there long enough for us to snap him up. Instead they cut Havner (and Detroit snapped him up, in about two seconds). So I’m sorta at loose ends onthe FB situation. We gotta do somethign probably, and Richardson USED to be good, there is absolutely no doug=bt of that but .. I just don’t if he still is. Could be, could not be.
If he still is, then yeah, he might fit perfectly into this “win now” team that we appear to have.
Richardson
was one of the primary reasons that the Jets had the NFL’s best rushing offense last year. He was in KC when they did, in MN when we did and NYJ when they did. The man can flat out block someone’s brains out. We need to be able to run the ball effectively over the first half of the year until Sidney gets back and Griffen gets healed enough to play more. The ball control style of offense will keep our defense fresh and hopefully help prevent injuries to our CBs.
Having a solid running game is a key component of improving the passing defense because it takes up time and keeps your defense fresher allowing them to play more aggressively. Granted it keeps your opponents offense fresh too, but it also prevents them from getting any timing if done properly. The Vikes need Richardson back and it was a mistake to let him go in the first place.

Richardson last year
means Vikes win the Superbowl in my opinion.

I dunno if I'd go that far
but he probably wouldn’t have hurt any. Definitely wouldn’t have gone out on the field to be the 12th man…
I just think we would
have been able to run even more effectively and wouldn’t have passed as much. Favre not having to drop back as much doesn’t get laid out like he did. Running keeps the ball out of the Saints hands more and we walk away with a win and no OT. No OT and maybe Griffen doesn’t go down on the opening kickoff with his ACL injury.
I believed that the winner of the Saints/Vikes game would win either way. I would absolutely go that far.

A few extra yards doesn't equal less fumbles
those are ultimately what killed us.
It changes the run pass mix
and changes the time of possession game even more in our favor. Every little bit helps and we were literally that close. Even with the fumbles we almost had it. I have a hard time believing that a little more run and a little less pass and Favre getting banged up would have done the trick.
I am not saying that the game wouldn’t have been close still. But it would have been Saints needing to hit a long field goal to even send it to OT instead of what went down. A little bit goes a long way in the NFL. Does anyone believe that Tahi contributed more? What seems to get missed about Richardson more than his play is his attitude and leadership. His ability to influence the swagger of the O-line and Peterson would likely have been all the difference. Then the type of passes needed would be more playactionesque and wouldn’t have caused Brett to get hit as much.
It has nothing to do with yards and everything to do with being able to better control the intangibles of the game and give your team an inherent advantage.

It's really not that far of a stretch Frost
Taking out the 12th man we could have gotten to the superbowl. Just would have depended on Longwell.
I think Richardson could get our running game back to where it was 2 years ago.
Without comprimising much in the passing game.
tough call
Tony was no doubt one of the best…heard the Jets wanted to give the new guy a shot and he looked good to them.
I would be ok picking him up, just not sure how much he has left either. Never/did not watch Jets games so I have no idea what kind of impact TR had on their game.
But would think the FO would look at any chance at and up grade.
Did you see....
that Tahi is actually due more money than AP this year. On a side note Jayme Mitchell is due to make more than Ray Edwards and Fred Evans more than Kevin Williams. I foresee a lot of restructering of contracts next year.
Well, it's all moot
As a vested veteran, Richardson wasn’t exposed to waivers. He became a free agent and the Jets were “very confident” they’d be able to re-sign him, Ryan said.
To make room for Richardson’s return, the Jets waived rookie cornerback Brian Jackson. They didn’t want to release Jackson on Sunday; they wanted to wait until Darrelle Revis’ contract was finalized before cutting a cornerback.
By midday, it was apparent that Richardson was coming back. His locker at the Jets’ training facility was intact. Everything was still in it, from practice jerseys to shampoo to toothpaste. It didn’t look like the locker of a player who was gone for good.
