Sage vents, Reyanud "shocked," Tarvaris numb to it all
I can't imagine what it's been like to be Sage Rosenfels the last 18 months. While he was here the guy was the consummate professional, never saying a politically incorrect word as his future kept going in and out of focus. Now that he's with the Giants he is still the consummate professional, but he did speak a little more freely what his 1+ year here was like.
“It couldn’t be further from what I just went through,” Rosenfels said. “We had four quarterbacks, and it was day-to-day with sort of what’s going to happen. But this situation, I feel like I’m on solid ground. Coach Coughlin knows what he’s going to get out of me and I know what I’m going to get out of him and the team, and I’m obviously much happier to be in a situation where I know what’s going to happen on a day-to-day basis.”
Good luck, Sage. You deserve luck to break your way for a change.
Darius Reynaud? Well, unlike Sage (who saw it coming over a year away, arguably), Darius was blindsided (like the rest of us):
Following Minnesota's final exhibition game last Thursday against Denver, Darius Reynaud felt certain he'd be spending his third NFL season with the Vikings. There was no doubt in his mind he had performed well enough to make the team as a punt returner and running back. But while talking to his wife Dominique after the game, Reynaud said he had kind of a premonition.
link If anyone has a newsday acct, it would be neat to see the rest of that article ... hint hint :)
And now some bonus content added a day later (since I don't know its worth a whole new FP): Tarvaris Jackson may actually be jealous of Sage, he has been wistfully dreaming of gong to another team:
I think he would have been fine if h'd stopped there. But unfortunately he didn't (and honestly, who can blame him, he's been through the wringer):Tarvaris Jackson didn't learn that fellow quarterback Sage Rosenfels had been traded to the New York Giants on Saturday night until one of his friends informed him of the deal.
"I really didn't have a reaction," Jackson said. "I knew somebody had to leave, so it was just waiting pretty much [to find out]."
The trade left Jackson as the Vikings backup to Brett Favre for a second consecutive season. But did it leave him happy?
"Honestly, I don't even care about that anymore," said Jackson, who completed two of eight passes against the Broncos for 2 yards. "You try to please so many people, try to please everybody and it's just to a point right now where if you don't like me, you don't like me and if you do, you do. "Obviously, we do play for the fans and if it weren't for the fans the game wouldn't be what it is. But at the same time this is my job. If they don't like me, so what?"

My take .
I hope Eli needs rest week #14 and Sage can see what he was missing with the first team reps . I do hope him well .
Reynaud went back to MIN to play ball His wife will see what the NFL is really about . We will have a better chance of facing him than Sage . We needed to take chances and make moves . After this year we may have some retire . The extra picks will help rebuild . That #5 would look good going to NE . MOSS ???
Dream matchup
How fun would it be for both Manning and Favre to sit out that game? The fans’ heads would explode with anticipation seeing the much maligned Tarvaris Jackson squaring off against his old backup, the guy most fans wanted to see kept in MN… And Childress could finally see the argument settled one way or another. I can’t bring myself to root for either QB getting hurt for even just one game, but if it DID happen, I would love to hear all the local hype going into that Sage v. T-Jack Bowl…
That would be completely solid
Of course our D is just a bit better than the Giants D, but then Sage is a bit better than TJ…
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
Dear Darius,
Unlike in Lost, this was not a situation where one of your teammates was going to jump into the ocean from the helicopter like Sawyer did to save the rest of the team.
The Giants asked for you, and we had to save a couple million for a stadium that no one wants to buy in Minnesota and pick up some extra draft picks for future use.
Zyg is a Giants’ fan and may believe he’s sent you to a better place.
It’s like in The Godfather: They just made us an offer we couldn’t refuse.
(Kindly find out for me if they have moved Hoffa to an end zone in the new stadium.)
Best regards,
Your #1 Fan,
Elgar

Heck in all reality
It’s not a bad place to be, although I’m sure he’d rather be on a team with asperations for the superbowl.

3 for the price of 2! I saw an interesting interview with Tarvaris, so I thought I would just add it on to the end of this Fanpost, since I didn’t think it would warrant a new one, and it sorta fits the theme of the other two (player uncertainty)
Noticed that
While I like the idea that T-Jack isn’t going to let fan discontent keep him from performing, it’s the performing part that the fans have an issue with. And fact is, if enough fans scream for his removal (and refuse to buy tickets if he’s at the helm), he won’t even see the door he gets punted through at light speed. He would do well to recognize that dissing the fans is a non-starter.

SKOL!
Hey I think he's just beat and broken by the Childress carousel
Personally I can’t blame the guy, he has had if very rough here the past couple of years. I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes for all the tea in China. Hopefully Childress does better with his next prodigy. Mean while honestly I think they should pay TJ a bit of money just because they did treat him fairly poorly.

I guess I'm just insensitive
According to Fox Sports, T-Jack is being paid $540,330 this year to be the backup QB. It’s not a lot of money in comparison to other proven veteran QBs, but then, no one in the NFL thinks that he’s worth as much as a 3rd round pick so in that context, to play a few series in garbage-time each year, is not bad beans. It’s more than 10x what the average American family makes each year, and thus far, in 4 years he’s made about as much or more as a normal schmo would have made in working 40 or more years.
If he doesn’t want people to be pessimistic about his ability to perform as QB, perhaps he should consider elevating his game, his understanding, his ability to read defenses, his pass accuracy. Hell, how about just the target point he’s aiming at?
He hasn’t had it rough. He’s had a cake-walk. He hasn’t even been required to pay the full price for his failure to consistently perform up to the standard of a 1st string QB. If we had Rosenfels still on the roster, I’d say they need to pay T-Jack more. A severance paycheck.

I don't see that as a diss at all.
He just realizes he can’t please everyone and you know what? He’s right.
This also shows
that Tarvaris can’t FREAKING stop watching or reading the NFL news!!!!! I wonder if he clicks on DN every now and then to see what we all think of him? Focus on your “JOB,” as you call it, instead of sitting here reading this!!!
He doesn’t have to come here. He just has to turn on ESPN or any local news sports segment to hear that. He is right, everyone is saying that stuff, he’d have to be deaf not to hear it.
Yeah actually....
come to think of it…..you’re right. Didn’t he get booed in the last preseason game?
big time
that’s what he talks about in that article I linked. He didn’t play well, but still I thought that was kinda harsh myself, not the classiest (nor smartest) thing for Viking fans to do. Mess with your backup QB’s mind. And mess with it we clearly have, whether with casue or not, there’s a reason I chose the word “numb” for my title:
“Of course you want to play for the fans, but at the same time you’re playing for my teammates, I’m playing for myself, my family,” said Jackson about the boos. “Whatever they do, they do. Regardless of the situation, regardless of why they’re booing, they boo. They just do.”
I’m starting to think that even if Tarvaris can cut it, his connection with the Vikings may now be so emotionally damaged that he will probably only make it somewhere else, and will probably need to leave after his contract ends this year. Barring one thing: Favre goes out during regular season, he comes in, and plays well.
I agree 100% and even then if I were TJ I would be looking for another place to play.

Hell read Sieferts column on Sage's trade
Pretty close to out right pissed of rage as I’ve ever seen a column be. Something about getting rid of a better QB so that Childress’s failed pet project wouldn’t be as vulnerable to fan redicule or something along those lines.

Read the article he sounded pissed maybe not because he's a fan of the Vikes
Maybe because he’s a fan of the game and didn’t see the logic or justice in the decision for the QB or the team.
