The First Injury Report Of The Year Is Out

Since the Viking and Saints play on a Thursday night this week, they had to release their initial injury reports today, and there aren't any real surprises on the Vikings' side of things.  Now, we won't get into terms like "questionable" or "probable" until the final reports are released on Wednesday, but both teams are required to list who participated in practice, who was limited, and stuff like that.

There are seven Vikings on the initial injury report.  CB Chris Cook is listed as being out with his knee injury, and the Vikings also list DT Jimmy Kennedy as missing practice today because of a knee injury as well.  I hadn't heard anything about Kennedy having a knee injury or anything like that, so I'm a little surprised by this.

Four Vikings were listed as having limited participation in today's practice.  They are RB Toby Gerhart (knee), S Jamarca Sanford (ankle), C John Sullivan (ankle), and CB Cedric Griffin (knee).  I'm still in a bit of shock over the progress Griffin has made thus far, but as I said in the comments of the FanShot that I posted about it. . .if the Vikings were going to go onto the waiver wire or into the free agent pool for help at corner, they likely would have done so by now.  I think that Griffin is going to be out there on Thursday night, maybe starting, maybe not. . .and while it wouldn't be quite as miraculous as E.J. Henderson's comeback, it's awfully darn impressive none the less.

And, just for fun, the Vikings listed Brett Favre (ankle) as a full participant in today's practice.  I, for one, am shocked.

The Saints listed eight players on their injury report.  RB Chris Ivory (knee) and LB Stanley Arnoux (ankle) did not participate in practice today at all.  Limited participants in Saints practice were LB Jonathan Vilma (knee groin), T Zach Streif (ankle), and CB Tracy Porter (knee).  WR Marques Colston (knee), S Pierson Prioleau (knee), and TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) fully participated in practice.

We'll be keeping track of the injury reports as we get closer to game time on Thursday.

I would be

delighted and not surprised to see Ced play a significant amount of time. The guy has been running and cutting full speed for weeks now on his own. Granted game scenarios are harder..

Limited participants in Saints practice were LB Jonathan Vilma (knee)

I guess it is against NFL policy to say groin.

No, that was just a typo on my part

Vilma’s injury is a groin, not a knee. My bad.

Not good

A severely injured Cook is probably better than a mildly injured and quickly nearly recovered Cedric Griffin.

Brett Favre will be on the weekly injured list all season for the Minnesota Vikings

Read a report in the St. Paul Pioneer Press …..

Brad Childress confirmed that Brett Favre’s name will be permanently placed on the weekly Team Injury Report, due to his ankle condition. Just Chilly’s way of insuring that Chilly is not fined any more of his salary by the NFL Front Office after past non-disclosures, cause Chilly lost of pay in fines!

Maybe Chilly should permanently place his own name of the weelklyTeam Injury Report, because after 5 season as Head Coach, he still unalbe to send in the correct play for the Offense!

Why is it that when we get 475 total yards in the last game Brad always seams to not be included . We lose and he is always in the blame ?

It isn’t a good day to cry about Brad . He has a tough task getting Brett in rythem with his core group of WR . While still filling the roster spots . We picked up two OL guys yesterday . If someone goes down and these guys step in . You will still be crying . We all want a more complex offense . With explosive plays and plenty of mismatches . But . Let the Offense gel a bit . It is a long 17 1/2 weeks for me to have to school you on patience already .

Chilly doesn't call plays anymore.

Favre’s friend Bevell does, so blame the right guy if you’re going to bother blaming someone for the #2 offense we had last year.

Why are you defending Chilly CV?

You know he can’t draft
Can’t train a QB
Can’t hire decent people
Can’t call plays
Can’t win.
I thought you knew that by now. :)

Obviously Chilly had nothing to with the fact that the Vikings have gone…

6-10 to 8-8 to 10-6 to 12-4.

Let’s hope 14-2 is next!~

If Chilly is not calling the plays, why does he still hold the play calling sheet on the side lines.

Everyone has a level where further promotions in your field of endeavorer will take you outside your area of strength.

27 years I served in the U.S. Army and many times I as ordered to take over a problem and to correct the situation. I was not the most qualified, by I knew to place the best soldiers in charge, and give them the information, tools, and supplies, and trusted them to do a better job than I. I carried the credentials, and allowed them to rectify the situation as they saw fit. I told them what needed to be done, but not how to do it. I was there if there were problems they could not handle, or if they came to me with questions (I tried to answer, otherwise I found others who could be better at helping them.

There is the Head Coach, and he has a Offensive, Defensive and Special Team Coach. These three coaches have other coaches under them for various player positions on the team.

I had a Platoon, I was the Platoon Sergeant, and above me was the Platoon Leader (who as a Commissioned Officer I did not see too often, as he also had other duties to perform for the Company Commander. In my platoon I had 3 squad leader, each of these squad leaders has two team leaders.

I only talked to the Platoon Leader and the Squad Leaders, I did not talk to the Team Leaders, or the Enlisted Ranks in the Team. There are levels in all organizations, and the organization works better when you are not stepping on the toes of those you have beneath you perform they assigned duties for you., in your name. So you have to let them decide how to do it, and stay out of their way!

Chilly likes to get involved in things that he should let his junior coach’s handle. He should not be talking with the players, that is a job for his Offensive, Defensive or Special Team Coach’s, and they can delegate the task to their Position Coaches. Chilly should not be calling plays, he should be there to observe the ebb and floe of the game, and talk with his three coaches, and allow them to talk with their positing coaches to correct the problem. He has never done that, and until he does, he is more of the problem than the answer.

Everyone we meet in life give us happiness, some by their arrival, others by their departure!

I agree...

In theory. But I think your description of the organization of a pro team breaks down at the payscale…
where the key performers (Team Leaders) out earn the PS and CO exponentially (in some cases). I think that breaks down the established ‘barriers’ that exist in the plan you laid out. I’m not arguing that you are wrong…

thank you for your service, btw.

I BELIEVE...

You make a good point about division of responsibilities but Childress does do much of what you suggest.

The defense is run entirely by Leslie Frazier as it should be. Brian Murphy runs the special teams unit and Chilly’s only known input there was that he wanted Kluwe to go for more height on punts rather than distance and that has worked out. Childress used to call all of the plays but decided that he was a better overall coach when he had less input on playcalling and more focus on the game as a whole. Last year Bevell called the plays and Chilly kept the play calling sheet because he’s in communication with Bevell, Favre, and Jackson via the headset and does have the option of requesting a certain play be called by Bevell.

Your military analogy is good to a point but remember these are football players who are often used on multiple units and there are only 53 members of this team so more personal communication is possible and unavoidable. For example a guy like Jeff Dugan is going to be talked to and taught by all three coordinators and the head coach because he plays on offense, special teams blocking, and special teams covering. In the military this wouldn’t happen as you can’t be a marine and be in the air force at the same time : )

The issue I have with your statements is this:
Chilly likes to get involved in things that he should let his junior coach’s handle. Chilly should not be calling plays, he should be there to observe the ebb and floe of the game, and talk with his three coaches, and allow them to talk with their positing coaches to correct the problem.

I am not saying you are wrong or right. I just know that no one has this information. I don’t read anywhere that Childress calls every play or steps on Bevell’s toes. I do know that this coaching staff has been together for 4 years. Almost an unheard of time in the NFL. I would say their system ( whatever it is) of communication and play calling works.

He should not be talking with the players,

Since I see every coach in every game from Jr.High football to NFL talk with players I just can’t put much stock in this statement. If Chilly were the only one doing it then maybe I would buy it as a rule. The NFL is not the Army. It is not typical corporate business. It is the Football business. And because of that not all management rules will transfer over from one organization to another.

Vikings just announced Sullivan will probably play

That’s a big break (assuming he’s close to 100%).

link

Still crossing my fingers for Cedric. He says he’s ready, apparently, but the fact the Vikings said Sullivan will play but apparently said nothing about Cedric is not encouraging.
