Where was Bruschi on that one?

Okay, so Darelle Revis just signed a 4-year deal that will keep him a New York Jet. For some reason Tedi Bruschi wasn't all over this story though.

more after the jump....

Star-divide

When Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson, & Ryan Longwell all went down to Hattiesburg, MS to get some guy named Brett Favre, Tedi Bruschi made it clear to anyone and everyone that would listen, that he wasn't pleased with the decision by the franchise to allow those players to miss practice to try and "convince" old #4 to come back for one more year. Rex Ryan, the HEAD COACH of the New York Jets, and Woody Johnson, THE FRICKEN OWNER of the New York Jets, went down to south florida (that's where LaBron went) to try and "convince" Darelle Revis to end his holdout and sign a new contract with the team. Now if there is one thing that I can't stand, it is a hater, and for some reason it seems like the Minnesota Vikings have a TON of haters. For the life of me I can't understand why the media hates us so much, but thats the way it is. Tedi Bruschi was all over the Favre thing before it even became official, but I have yet to hear him go on a senseless rant about how much the Jets have sullied their reputations by having the owner and head coach get down on their knees and BEG BEG BEG their elite corner to come and join their team. Tedi used to be one of my favorite players before he "lost respect" for my team, and then went on to say that HE wouldn't have done it if he didn't have a super bowl ring, if it was Tom Brady on the fence about coming back to the team. I call shenanigans on Tedi for that comment, because he has 3 super bowl rings and he doesn't know what it is like to be on the tail end of your career without one. I would bet the 3 dollars I have in my pocket right now, and probably the lint too, that if Bruschi was on the Vikings he would have been one of the first payers to volunteer to go and kidnap Brett Favre. Keep it real Tedi, and from the great Tom Tucker "You can go fornicate yourself with an iron stick."

More than likely

it has something to do with Bruschi being a defensive player. So of course he’s going to hate when you beg for an offensive player, especially a quarterback, because he’s used to hating them and doesn’t quite understand just how much they mean to a team. But when its suddenly a defender that’s being begged to return, he can understand.

Or he’s just a giant douche that I’m glad actually shut the eff up for once.

its a different situation

Revis wasn’t contemplating retirement, he needed a new contract.

Completely different situation. I’m sure the owner and general manager are often present when trying to negotiate contracts, and maybe even sometimes the coach.

Idiot . Bret was negociated a new contract . Don't you recall bitching about why he needed 7 mil more . Grow up and have an adult opinion ,

I remember Brad travelling down to Miss . and you were all over that to . You really need to reserve your antics until after your week 7 loss . Who is starting in place of Al Harris anyway ? You don’t know . But I am sure Brett does . He knows that team better than any coach ,player or fan at GB !!!

geez...

First of all WHO CARES!!!! Its a dumb media guy, who gives a flying F what he thinks about it. Second, I would say if anyone should go down there to get him it SHOULD be the coach and GM…they are the ones who would be negotiating and working with him. Third, Revis was underpaid, holding out, and wanting a LT deal. Favre was contemplating retirement, very well compensated and wanting attention. I think they are different situations completely.

Well I don't know if he worked on Labor Day

and NFL Live doesn’t come on until 3pm. Either way it doesn’t really matter. Its just an opinion.

Can somebody explain why Vikings fans have this chip on their shoulder? I’m not from here (lived in the Twin Cities since 1999). When the Packers had Favre all I heard was that the NFL was against the Vikings and wanted Favre and the Packers to win everything. Now that Favre is here now the NFL is even more against the Vikings and actively conspired against them in the championship game last season. Its not intended to be a dig in anyway. I’m just curious.

by stram#1 on Sep 7, 2010 2:27 PM CDT reply actions

Clearly there is a conspiracy...

why else would the forever and always best team in the league still have no Superbowl victories?!

by Jshore on Sep 7, 2010 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions

Just take a look at "expert" picks

Everyone is picking Green Bay to be in or win the super bowl this year. Last time I checked, we were the division champs two years running, and I don’t remember seeing them in the NFCCG last year. You would have to ask one of these media douche’s why they WANT the Packers to win, and why do they hate the vikes so much. I don’t expect to be the favorite’s or anything, but it would be nice to get a little respect for a team that is returning almost every starter from a should be super bowl team.

by Loki on Sep 7, 2010 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions

its all the injuies

if the vikings were coming into this season relatively healthy then most “experts” would have us finishing atop the division. At first I was mad too but then I realized that it would hard to Vikings over the Packers right now you know what I mean? I hate to admit but think about it, would you rather choose the up and coming team with a great young quarterback and the explosive offense? OR the team with the soon to be 41 year old quarterback on a bum ankle and injuries in key positions such as WR and a CB? seems pretty lame but that’s how it works.but don’t worry a majority of those experts will change their opinions at the end of the season anyway.

by Vikant on Sep 7, 2010 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions

GB has a few injuries of their own in key spots. Their best cb is up there in age and if he goes down, that d will be even worse.

Their o-line could be a problem again if either tauscher or clifton goes down.
And their special teams absolutely is going to suck balls this year.

Lastly, they have 0 depth.

They’re going to need more than 4000 yds from erin if they want to even sniff a +10 win season.

They have a tougher schedule as well.

by angryguy77 on Sep 7, 2010 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Its old

Clifton and Tauscher will miss some games this year, bank on it. Once that happens, they will be porous once again. They don’t have depth and Bulaga won’t save them.

by angryguy77 on Sep 7, 2010 8:45 PM CDT up reply actions

We actually do have depth though. Buluga’s looked great so far, granted it was only preseason. And T.J. Lang is a more then capable back-up for Tauscher. I agree that Clifton/Tauscher will miss some games this season but unlike last season, we won’t have to shift around our entire offensive line.

by packallday555 on Sep 7, 2010 10:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Ya but ESPN doesn't care about reality . They still call the NFC East the strongest conference .

Yet . You look at our schedule . We are listed as having the 15th toughest based on last years winning % . In a nutshell . We face either a whole lot of underachievers . Or we face a whole lot of ESPN’s East Coast boast . They try to dominate the Airwaves with their own objectives . Goodell needs to enforce sanctions on these news agencies that truely disrupt the games . Before they even start . They make a fast buck on half truths and people keep buying into it .
EX : I told all at APC that Jolly was going to be subject to a Federal Investigation . That is still coming . He has friends trying to say they crossed those State or Country borders while suplying Cocaine , marijuana and codiene . I stated the Judicial system won’t allow such arrogance at a Federal level . He will produce a List . And 5 years from now . GB players included will be effected . And the GB team instead of cutting ties and taking their medicine like men . Have Jolly hiding behind a signed future contract to protect the organization . Then sell him to the highest bidder when it is said and done . Jolly is one example of how ESPN never even mentioned the Purple drank until a Nationwide show brought it out . Why hold back the truth ? Because it serves their sick agenda of making money any way they see fit .
I could use Bruschi as a second example . But just knowing that ESPN has him selling out to the Jets in the Revis owner/coach begging session in s . Florida says enough on it’s own merits . If ESPN told him to say the Patriots suck . He would do it . Then proudly pick up his check on Friday . That blue collar player has transitioned into a well groomed white collar guy . I’m tellin’ ya !

This is the way I look at it:

Last year, we kicked their ass. Our offense dominated their defense and our d-line dominate Rogers. Over the offseason was there a combination of progression in both areas for them and regression in both areas for us to warrant a change from last year? I dont think so. The Lions came closer to stealing a game last year than the packers, we should be more worried about them.

by ArizonaVikingsFan on Sep 7, 2010 6:08 PM CDT up reply actions

You really want to know why Viking fans have a chip on our shoulder?

I will tell you some of it. A lot of It goes back to the Drew Pearson push off. To the media, it’s one of the greatest plays in the history of football and it’s the “freakin” play that the Hail Mary is named after. In reality when a receiver drops the defender to the ground with a two handed shove to the back, before the ball arrives, it shouldn’t be a great play. It should be a damn penalty.

The Vikings were better at blocking kicks than anyone else in the league, other teams jut couldn’t do it like the Vikings. So the league changes the rules. Oh and the 4 Superbowls don’t help either.

There’s plenty more, but I think that should give you an idea.

the media hates favre now

they just react to literally EVERY FOOTBALL FAN who was sick of favre will he or won’t he coverage. remember how sick of it you were when he was in green bay? thats how the entire rest of the nation feels. ESPN is in the business of catering to viewership. they realized everyone hated this crap, so now they say they hate it while covering it. people are just sick of favre.

if you had a little perspective, like most of this site did, you knew favre was coming back and couldn’t give a crap about the soap opera updates. it’s guys like bruschi’s job to give a crap.

they don’t “hate” the vikings. they just simply think green bay is a better team. also, the awful sports media does have pet teams. the NFC east, jets and patriots, and green bay. they also like chicago when it isn’t obvious they will suck [see: last year]. those teams get more coverage because of bigger markets. vikings have never won anything, so they are second tier.

also, revis hasn’t gotten paid yet. and there are holdouts like this every year. no one pussyfoots around like favre every year.

its best to ignore these people.

by boyonthedock on Sep 8, 2010 5:51 AM CDT reply actions

I think people are sick of Favre and the way the Vikings have handled him

I know I’m tired of it. Then the first day he’s back reports come out he doesn’t trust childress. Its the whole undermining of the vikings organization that people outside of your organization get sick of.

If someone isnt picking the viking to go to the super bowl just realize they probably have rational reasons like:
Last year they were very healthy, this year thats already a problem
-They won a few games they probably had no right winning ex. the 49ers(great play but that could have went either way) the ravens miss a 41 yard fg, perfect conditions indoors as time expires. If either of those games goes differently the vikings dont have the 2nd seed and are playing another playoff game
-Its just hard to repeat those type of seasons especially with an old qb. Other than the colts its rare that teams have back to back 12 plus win seasons

The NFC is tough. theres the saints, packers, cowboys, falcons, and several other teams capable of taking the next step. 49ers, panthers, giants, eagles,

Onthecock ,

They thought that after #12’s year one on the bench .
They thought that after #12’s second year and his first major injury while on the bench .
They thuoght that after now named Brittle in his third year and second major injury once again falling off the bench .
They thought that after #12 lost to a young Tarvaris in Lambeau . As the Purple went 10-6 and robbed #12 of his first playoff appearance .
They really thought that in Brett’s first year in Purple . As they blow out GB 34-7 to complete the sweep .
They think it again this year . With EJ back to make them the Top Defense . And Brett back a year removed from the only serious surgery in his lifetime to his throwing arm . With 7 million in incentives to take it all . When has he ever failed to produce .
--After all that …..We wouldn’t be sharing two games apiece with ESPN , CBS and NBC . While FOX dominates 8 of the 10 in the second half of the season if they didn’t all believe what they simply are not allowed to report . When he does win it . They will all four get rich off of it . We will get a new stadium either way . And we won’t have to doninate the airwaves as GB and CHI were guaranteed second class TV time to help GBget over the fact that . … While Brett still breaths . The Packers will still have to stay in stasis . Until the Fat Barbarian Lady sings the SKOL Vikings fight song one last time .
Then we still have to endure the amout of money it will take to get Brett in the Packer Ring of Honor . The Great Jim BRown demanded $100,000 .
Then how much Green to go green to the Big Hall in Canton . Or as Brett will remember it CAN get paid a TON !!! What a bunch a losers .

by gothicpurple on Sep 8, 2010 9:12 PM CDT up reply actions

haters gonna hate

Look at our 2008 season, we got into the playoffs with a team half as talented as the 2009 team.

Let people pick whoever, we all know those predictions won’t mean anything halfway into the season when the power rankings change dramatically. You can look at teams on paper right now, but come 5-6 games, there’ll be a ton of shake ups.

Lastly, let them pick the Packers in specific. We weren’t supposed to beat the Cowboys last year either :P

players missing practice is more of an issue than an owner and coach

Players are at the bottum of the toddum pole, they shouldnt be off recruiting other players IMOP. Their job is to play. Recruiting is the job of the owner,GM and coach. I dont see an issue with what the Jets did.

If they sent Sanchez, Cromarti and Mangold to retrive Revis I bet Teddy would have said the same thing.

He came off like a ranting hobo at a bus station. All I could cobble together out of his nonsense was that team mates should not fly out to see their QB.

Bandwagoners

This year & last year Im sure many of you Viking fans have seen plenty of bandwagon fans. They’re the worst. Bandwagon fans who wanna hop on your team cus “AP is TEH gr8est!!”, or theyre hardcore Favre fans (me). But that also brings the bandwagon haters. People who hate Favre now hate your team that was never really in the public eye that much just cus he is there now. So its just part of the game really, all these people that wanna hate & criticize Favre & the Vikings cus its the cool new thing to do. It’s really just pathetic, honestly.

P.S. Vikes by 13 over Saints tonight.
