Madieu Williams in Sierra Leone

I caught this story on the NBC Nightly News and had to share. Minnesota Viking Madieu Williams talks about his personal mission to improve the lives of people in the country of his birth, Sierra Leone. This has absolutely nothing to do with tomorrow night's game between the Vikings and the New Orleans Saints, but after reading stories about so much bad behavior and the off-field antics involving NFL players, it's nice to hear a story about an NFL player who's trying to do something good with his fame and fortune. That he's also a Viking, well, that doesn't hurt either.

Now if only he made a personal mission

of being above average at the safety position. Alas.

True, true.

its nice to see this

a person that doesn’t take their money and spend it on fruitless things.

Makes for a nice change...

From hearing about guys date-raping coeds in club bathrooms or shooting themselves in the leg or getting drunk and hitting pedestrians.

Refreshing

In the time of TOs, Rapelisthburgers, John Jollys, JaMarcus Russells, and Pacman Jones, that a MAN would rise up and give his uncommon wealth and fortune to those who would beg to be given a shot at the American Dream. Bravo Madieu!

Pretty Impresive.

Not only his donation, but his story all together.
To think that he came from there and became what he is today is pretty damn impressive.

I'll give $100...

… for every interception he makes. Incentive.

Seriously though, that is a good story. The fact is, the media tends to put more emphasis on the shocking, the salacious, negative stories, and often the good ones get ignored. It’s good they did this one.

Very

An interesting thing about Williams, when he donated $2 million to his alma mater to develop a center on global health issues, he didn’t tell anyone at the Vikings organization that he was going to do it. He doesn’t seem to seek out the media attention and accolades that often go with that kind of altruism. Now, if he sharpens his ball-hawk tendencies this season, I just might have to name first-born children after him.

Madieu is a high character guy

Funny how his charity largely goes un-noticed. I’m sure he prefers it that way.

"We have a right to be proud, for in our veins flows the blood of many brave races who fought as the lion fights for lordship. Here, in the whirlpool of European races, the Ugric tribe bore down from Iceland the fighting spirit which Thor and Odin gave them, which their Berserkers displayed to such fell intent on the seaboards of Europe, ay, and of Asia and Africa too, till the peoples thought that the werewolves themselves had come."
