Vikings/Saints, Fourth Quarter Thread

After an early three-and-out by the Vikings, the Saints drove down the field and tacked on another touchdown, and currently have a 14-9 lead over the Vikings as we move to the fourth quarter of play.

Minnesota has the ball, looking at 2nd and 7 from their own 16-yard line.

One quarter of play left in the season opener, ladies and gentlemen.  The Vikings owned the last 15 of the first half. . .hopefully they can do it again here.

Ugh

This sucks, because I was totally hoping to make him the QB, but… yes. AFter this game, hell yes. Get ourselves some WRs who can get seperation, if not vertically than AT LEAST horizontally. The kid can jump.

Our WRs are all #2s and #3s that allowed them to cheat up and play the short pass all game long.

by Frost on Sep 9, 2010 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Overall:

Here is my overall take…….
First off…. No real serious injuries… Yes, McKinnie left, but due to a finger….

Second… Favre was really not hit or sacked except that one time, but it was a jersey sack.. No controversial hits….

Defense… Held the Saints to 14 points!!!! With a banged up deep in depth secondary. Imagine when we get Cedric Back!?!?!?

Things to improve: Wow, our RUN-D fell on its face 2nd 1/2, what up w/ that?
Favre!? Work on your timing…. Now your going to get criticized for missing so much TC… Work on timing…

Penalties: Wow, no fumbles, but 1 bad interception…. Mostly due to Favre being hit while passing… Still a bad decision.

Okay, things to look forward too…
Hopefully a Healthy Toby Gerhart, Chris Cook, and Cedric Griffin.

And….

One thing that is mentioned, Vikings & Saints have first crack at Waiver wire due to them having the game so early on. A big plus for both of us….

I will not hang my head low tomorrow off of this… A blow-out would have me embarassed.. Overall I’m proud of the Defense, and hope the Offense will work on its key issues…

by Deek on Sep 9, 2010 10:30 PM CDT reply actions

Again..

It should have been 20 points. And there was a near TD-catch, so it could have been 24 even.

My take: WR. Get one. A real one. I hope Rice is happy right now.

TJ wouldn’t have helped any, I don’t think. We need somebody who can play the horizontal game for Brett. TJ isn’t that kind of guy. He’s more of what we already have right now.

by Frost on Sep 9, 2010 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Probably a realllly bad time to stick my head in, but...

You guys have one of the nastiest D’s I’ve seen. You had a depleted secondary, and still we couldn’t really do all that much, period. When you have Rice back, and the coached get some simple common sense, and you more than likely will start winning in bunches. Once your guys get healthy, you’ll be a force again. Good game.

It should’ve been 20. Although if I was offered before the game that the Saints would score 20 in the Superdome against Minny’s depleted secondary, I’d take it…

Offensively, the Vikes could be in trouble until they get the kinks ironed out. This is the second year in a row Chilly’s allowed a bit of a circus during camp; it’s just this year they don’t get to start out against the Browns and Lions.

He's not worth 6 mil

Use that money on Jackson. Cut Berrian. Or make him restructure.

butterhands berrian, ugh.

by loldotcom on Sep 9, 2010 10:41 PM CDT up reply actions

lol that's called good defense

He’s not a possession receiver. He’s a deep pass receiver. If he could get more looks downfield for once…

If Gus Frerotte can throw 99-yard TD passes to him…I think any QB can do it.

lol

that 99 yard pass was a fluke. You’re not going to see a CB just drop off his man when the safety isn’t deep very often.

The only thing that upset me about this game

was that I didn’t pick up the Minnesota Vikings Defense for my fantasy football. That thing’s amazing.

0-1

but that’s why they make it a 16 (and possibly someday an 18) game season. I’ll be at the game next week. Let’s go!

Yikes

Good point….
I bet he will dawn a Favre jersey, get taunted, and wonder what his response will be..

Favre definitely had an off-day… But I think it was just as much of the receivers fault as well.
Some of the receivers just were not catching the balls..

by Deek on Sep 9, 2010 10:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Was that a money back Guarantee?

I just lost a bet tonight. Maybe R4F will pay it off.

I think

That our offense won’t be so explosive this year, because it won’t need to be..
Thanks to the defense…

Let’s keep holding opposing teams to under 20……

Need more time to develop Favre - Camarillo plays

Lets Face it, Favre was not “ON” in the second half.

Shades of brilliance near the end of the first half though.

Sadly...

Once again, the Vikings walk off that field in the idea that they could have & should have won that game.. Luckily, it landed at the beginning of the season versus the playoffs… I predict that we’ll turn the tides from here on out…

by Deek on Sep 9, 2010 10:58 PM CDT reply actions

I dunno about could/should have

We got straight up outplayed in that second half.

by Frost on Sep 9, 2010 11:01 PM CDT up reply actions

How?

Dump passes to anyone worked tonight. Just needed more than dump passes to move the chains.

Chester would’ve added nothing to this game.

call it a fail all you want.

But please explain to me how chester would’ve won this game?

The blocking by RB’s was good tonight. The dump passes that we wanted to complete…were completed. Chester doesn’t get anymore space or movement on defenders than Albert Young or Peterson gets.

I love Chester, and I knew he was a great player. But in terms of tonight, he would’ve added very little to this effort. Passes downfield needed to happen, and they didn’t. If you wanna blame the receivers, go ahead (even though I think it was more on Favre).

The gameplan would've differed ya think?

Albert Young ain't no Chester Taylor

Not by a very long shot

Well....

when Kleinsasser is a go to guy in the fourth, I think that says a lot.

Actually

the dump off stopped worked after that Shiancoe TD. We never went deep after that, except on the other would-be-Shiancoe target. It let them cheat up real bad. So much for Favre breaking down those kinds of coverage this game.

close enough game

We held the best defense ever (according to any media outlet) to only 14 points w/ a depleted secondary. Not bad considering how little pressure we put on them.

That's a really big positive thing..

Now imagine if our offense was firing on all cylinders..

Holy yikes!!! right?

Chilly said it best when he said that he would rather play the Saints at the end of the season versus the beginning…
