Leslie Frazier: The Right Man For The Job

I like Leslie Frazier being given the Vikings' Head Coaching position, and here is why: as a general rule, I abhor coaching changes. Unless the previous regime is completely incompetant on the field (aka Childress) or has lost control of the team off the field (aka Tice), I like to stick with "in-house" candidates and not completely revamp the system.

The Vikings aren't nearly as bad off as some people think. They basically have two gaping holes: offensive line, and QB. O-lines can be fixed in short order (look at Green Bay's turnaround from last season to this year), but the QB issue might be the one that haunts Frazier, as those don't grow on trees. Other than those two positions, though, the Vikes are pretty solid all-around (yes, I know, the secondary is a bit weak, but if the offense starts scoring and guys stay healthy, it's not a liability).

So, I'm glad that the current organization decided not to blow everything up (especially with an impending lockout at hand) and clean house just five years after the Tice Regime left town. Plus, I haven't seen anything out of Frazier yet that WOULDN'T make him a solid NFL head coach. We made the mistake of letting Mike Tomlin go and giving Chili a contract extension, so this is a step in the right direction.
