Morale Boost

So yes, we have a win. I think we all can breathe a little better knowing we won't be sharing the Lions worst-ever record for a season, and certainty the sun is shining a bit brighter now that BB is riding the pine.  But there's still a lot of negative that we could dwell on, so in an effort to keep the morale boost this win has provided us growing, I'd like to hear everyone's favorite viking memory or memories.   Here's one of mine:

When I was ten, my dad handed me a list of all the NFL teams and told me it was high time I picked a team. He is a Redskins fan, and my mom is an Oakland fan, so naturally I was told I could pick any team BUT the Broncos or Cowboys.  I had no concept of anyone's abilities, coachs, qb's, or even records, but I was head over heels in love with horses, so I chose the Colts. From then on I was a Colts "fan". Marginally keeping track of scores, not really caring what was happening in the realm of NFL. The only game I watched in full was when they won the super bowl.

Fast forward a decade later. It was Monday night football at a local bar and grill, and my die hard husband wanted to watch the exciting match up between his beloved Vikings and the Packers. We had the kids dressed in their finest purple colors. Even our infant twins were in vikings onesies.  My husband was sporting his favorite AP shirt, and as were getting ready to leave, I felt so out of place. So feeling in the spirit of the evening, I put on one of his other vikings shirts, tied it up so it fit me, and away we went.

The game was a barn burner, and the diner was packed. There were packer and vikings fans everywhere, and the whole place was completely soaked in the game. And as we marched down the field for the winning drive, and I found myself utterly mesmerized by the the heart and soul of not only the team, but the fans, I realized I had more fun watching the Vikings play that one game than I had in my entire 10 years of being a Colts "fan".  And from that moment on I have lived and breathed viking football.  There's a spirit to this team that I find unmatched. And although we have no super bowl ring (yet!), and we might not even be making it to the playoffs this year, or hell, even be IN Minnesota in the years to come, I wouldn't and couldn't love any other sports team more. We are, after all, a family that bleeds purple.
