Which College Players Are Future Vikings? Week Six Review and Week 7 Primer

Six weeks into the college football season. Who do you like for the Vikings?

Obviously the wide receivers are continuing to play well. There are some good looking QBs but the Vikings probably do not NEED one. I like the offensive tackles and a number of guards too. I think there are quite a few linebackers to choose from in the first 3 rounds. Some are playing defensive end and that could be their position in the NFL. I personally gravitate to the guys who are playing linebacker in college all the time. There are about 5 safeties that could go by round 3 with most in the second round.

I think the Vikings should be looking at OT, OG, WR, & S in the first four rounds.

I am going to list some prospects and highlight some that I like as future Vikings and then preview week 7 in C-USA and the MAC ...

This week I watched a few games looking at some fringe prospects. I watched Boston College vs Clemso though. Luke Kuechly is a tackling machine. I would not mind if the Vikings took him in the first round at all. Of course that would mean they are drafting around 10 to 15 though. Donnie Fletcher did not do bad either. The TE for Clemson, Dwayne Allen is pretty good along with Brandon Thompson and Andre Branch.

I watched about half of Baylor vs Iowa State too.  I have to say that Robert Griffin III is very very impressive both on the field and off.  The young man has earned his degree in Political Science and is set to get his Master's in Communication in the spring.  He has said that he is considering going back to school for his senior year to begin Law school!  Wow!

Then when you look at his career stats here http://www.cfbstats.com/2010/player/51/1015536/index.html be sure to check each year.  He was pretty impressive last year too.  He is a World Class hurdler too.
http://www.baylorbears.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/griffiniii_robert00.html

This guy is more impressive than Ponder which is hard to do.  He is trying to become my favorite player this year.

Please add any performances that you were impressed with and any players that you like for the Vikings after week six?

Looking ahead to games this week I am going to move to Conference USA and the MAC.  The numbers after the position are the position rank.

Here is a quick after week five mock with two compensatory picks.  The Vikings are set to pick 9th according to this site  http://www.thehuddlereport.com/Free/draftorder.shtml

Also the Vikings traded their 6th round pick to Washington for McNabb. I am not sure if it is a 5th.  They also are set to receive New England's 7th round pick for the Moss trade and Washington's probable 7th round pick for the Sage Rosenfels and Darius Reynauld trade and Cleveland's probable 6th round pick for the Jayme Mitchell trade.

So here goes.  It could be that two offensive tackles (Kalil and Martin) will be off the board by #9.  Both Jeffery and Blackmon could be off the baord as well.  There is a very good chance of that so then what do the Vikings do?

Here is how I see the first 8 picks going right now ...

1 COLTS  ANDREW LUCK QB - no chance the Colts pass on Luck
2 RAMS  ALSHON JEFFERY WR
3 DOLPHINS  LANDRY JONES QB
4 CARDINALS  MATT KALIL OT
5 JAGUARS  JUSTIN BLACKMON WR
6 EAGLES  VONTAZE BURFICT LB
7 PANTHERS  MICHAEL FLOYD WR
8 BRONCOS  QUINTON COPLES DE

... this could change as Carolina, Denver, and especially the Eagles could all go offensive tackle.  But for now that is what I am going with.

So here are the Vikings picks ...

9. Jonathan Martin OT Stanford rJR 6-6 305 5.29
41. Jeff Fuller WR Texas A&M SR 6-3 220 4.52
