Which College Players Are Future Vikings? Week Seven Review and Week 8 Primer

Seven weeks into the college football season. Who do you like for the Vikings?

Obviously the wide receivers are continuing to play well. There are some good looking QBs but the Vikings probably do not NEED one. I like the offensive tackles and a number of guards too. I think there are quite a few linebackers to choose from in the first 3 rounds. Some are playing defensive end and that could be their position in the NFL. I personally gravitate to the guys who are playing linebacker in college all the time. There are about 5 safeties that could go by round 3 with most in the second round.

I think the Vikings should be looking at OT, OG, WR, & S in the first four rounds.

I am going to list some prospects and highlight some that I like as future Vikings and then preview week 8 in C-USA and the MAC ...

I watched USC vs CAL, Stanford vs Washington State, some of Washington vs Colorado, Oklahoma State vs Texas, Michigan vs Michigan State, and parts of other games too.

I have to say that I am torn between Matt Kalil and Jonathan Martin.  Either one looks better than any of the tackles from last year.

Please add any performances that you were impressed with and any players that you like for the Vikings after week seven?

Looking ahead to games this week I am going to move to the Mountain West, the WAC, and the Independents.  The numbers after the position (on some) are the position rank.

Here is an after week seven mock with two compensatory picks.  I an hoping for one compensatory pick to be at the end of the third round and the other at the end of the seventh.  The Vikings lost four qualifying free agents in Rice, Edwards, TJack, & Leber.  They signed three qualifying free agents in Remi Ayodele, Charlie Johnson, and Devin Aromashodu.  I hope that because Edwards and Rice were signed for more than the guys the Vikings signed that they will get something for this at the end of the seventh. So I am changing my mock for the time being until someone convinces me that the Vikings will get a higher second compensatory pick.

The Vikings are set to pick 8th according to this site  http://www.thehuddlereport.com/Free/draftorder.shtml

Also the Vikings traded their 6th round pick to Washington for McNabb. I am not sure if it is a 5th.  They also are set to receive New England's 7th round pick for the Moss trade and Washington's probable 7th round pick for the Sage Rosenfels and Darius Reynauld trade and Cleveland's probable 6th round pick for the Jayme Mitchell trade.

So here goes.  It could be that two offensive tackles (Kalil and Martin) will be off the board by #8.  Both Jeffery and Blackmon could be off the baord as well.  There is a very good chance of that so then what do the Vikings do?

Here is how I see the first 8 picks going right now ...

1 COLTS  ANDREW LUCK QB - no chance the Colts pass on Luck
2 DOLPHINS  LANDRY JONES QB
3 RAMS  MATT KALIL OT
4 CARDINALS  JONATHAN MARTIN OT
5 JAGUARS  ALSHON JEFFERY WR
6 PANTHERS  JUSTIN BLACKMON WR
7 BRONCOS  QUINTON COPLES DE/OLB

So here are my Vikings picks ...

8. Alameda Ta'amu DT Washington 6-3 337 5.22
40. Mike Adams OT Ohio State SR 6-6 320 5.28
72. Coby Fleener TE Stanford SR 6-6 245 4.77
98. Jeff Fuller WR Texas A&M 6-3 220 4.52
106. Tony Dye SS UCLA 5-11 216 4.52
141. Emmanuel Acho ILB Texas SR 6-2 245 4.79
170. Jeff Allen OT Illinois SR 6-4 315 5.26
200. Philip Blake C Baylor Sr 6-2 320 5.26
215. Robert Golden CB/FS Arizona SR 5-11 200 4.54
218. DeAngelo Peterson TE LSU SR 6-3 236 4.73
240. Jordan White WR Western Michigan SR 6-0 215 4.54

I know some are saying WTF is he doing taking a DT in the first round and one that is not ranked that high (yet).
Fair questions indeed.  But he has moved to the top of my board as he is simply a BEAST!  Plain and simple.
I would like to add him next to KWill and Allen with Robison on the other side.  I know they have Ayodele but he
is not performing as well as we thought (yet).  Evans should NOT be resigned either.  So then there is Guion who
they have to decide if they want to resign too.

I like Ta'amu the most right now and I think that the Vikings will win at least two more games the rest of the way
and will probably end up picking around 12 or so when it is all said and done.

When you say Ta'amu think Haloti Ngata.   This weekend he plays against Stanford which should be an excellent game to watch because he probably will line up across from David DeCastro often!

I do have some other thoughts on how they can improve the line too.  I think there could be a free agent or trade.
But I will save those for a little while.  :)

I like Fleener a lot and with the two TE offense he would be pretty nice with Rudolph.
