Like many Viking fans I questioned Chris Ponder's value as a 1st round draft pick. I banged my drum over and over for Andy Dalton. As we near the halfway mark of the season, Dalton and AJ Green are on fire. And Ponder is going to start taking some names.
When Ponder got thrown in to that embarrassing Bear's game two weeks ago I thought he showed some promise. In a close loss to the undefeated Packers last week I saw some sparks. This week against the Panthers and the heralded Cam Newton, I saw a breath of fresh air in the Vikings in a close win. Ponder has got what it takes. He doesn't panic on third down, he showed great poise in the pocket and wasn't afraid to get out and make plays with his feet. Experts are starting to call him an unpolished Aaron Rodgers and I for one agree with them. As I wrote after the Superbowl, the NFC North is a serious division to reckon with in the NFL. We are a division of quarterbacks: Rodgers, Cutler, Stafford and now Ponder, the piece it's going to take to bring the Vikes back to the playoffs.
