After looking at the Vikings roster and watching that umm..ugh... thing on Monday night that consisted of the Vikings sucking at football and the MNF crew sucking at something very, very different (yeah, looking at you especially here gruden), it's painfully obvious that our offensive line and secondary are just unspeakably bad. I tried looking through the dictionary to maybe find a word to describe the two units but I seriously couldn't find anything that I felt was strong enough to convey how bad they really are. So naturally we are left to discuss which unit we need to address first. First off, I wholeheartedly agree that Charlie Johnson is NOT an NFL LT and we really need to get a franchise guy there, preferably in the draft. But I can't find a starting caliber CB on our roster now that Winfield is out for the year. I think Cook has the talent, but he's a dolt, and that's an understatement, and can't be relied upon to be on the field. And I like Cedric Griffin, I admire that he can still play football on 2 reconstructed knees, but he's not an NFL corner anymore. Asher Allen should put together a video on how not to play corner and sell it to make money because there is no way he should still be collecting a paycheck from any team in the near future. Marcus Sherels and Brandon Burton could be good, but that's a big question mark. I really think the Vikings should find a way to draft a corner in the 1st round this year. There are a few potential candidates, Morris Claiborne from LSU, Dre' Kirkpatrick from Alabama, and Janoris Jenkins from N. Alabama/Florida. I can understand some hesitation in drafting Jenkins because of the off-field issues and it's probably not a good idea to your 2 best corners potentially in off-field hot water at the same time. So I'd really like to see the Vikes draft Claiborne or Kirkpatrick at some point, even if it means passing on a LT. In this passing league, corners are more valuable than ever and they have become a franchise position. If you don't have a franchise corner, you're screwed. I know we might be able to address the situation in free agency, but I'm not sure any of the guys out there would be worth giving big contracts to and count on him to be a franchise corner. I'd rather draft a high potential guy and try to develop him into our franchise corner. Obviously the ideal scenario would be we could somehow find a way to address both positions in the 1st round but that's not exactly a likely scenario and if Spielman can find a way to do that he should immediately be given the front office exec. of the year award as soon as the 1st round is over. So if push comes to shove and we have to pick 1, I'd say pick the corner because I think it's easier to improve the offensive line in the later rounds especially the interior offensive line, which could also use an upgrade/depth improvement/replacement for Hutch.
