Why do you have to try to make it partisan?
There’s strong stadium opposition on both sides of the aisle.
Oh, and, this is all posturing at this point.
Politics is partisan.....
don’t have a snit. Just listening to the questioning. Pols have no problem squandering money when it does not involve such high profile issues as this. And yes, the posturing that goes on in order to portray themselves as being stewards of taxpayer money is laughable.
This isn't really a partisan issue
Is what I’m saying. There are douchepickles on this issue in both parties.

Me too......
Minneapolis is behaving arrogantly in all this. They did little to nothing in all this, the Wilfs called them on it and put together a concrete plan somewhere else. Now, the city, in effect, wants the state to force the team to stay in town FIRST, then the details will be ironed out.
Correct me if I'm wrong
Minneapolis said that one of the reasons they are late to the game is because the Vikings would only work with Arden Hills. Is this true? I know that’s the case now, but that’s because Arden Hills has the location, plan, etc. while Minneapolis hasn’t had that in the past.
I’m guessing the Vikings were open to Minneapolis in the past, but they never came with a strong plan. Am I wrong?
I have a feeling that you're right
The Vikings have been attempting to get themselves a stadium for the last ten years. Minneapolis has come up with a whole lot of jack squat during that time.
I think Mayor Rybak’s testimony today underscores the fact that Minneapolis is simply, as the kids today say, “butthurt” that the Vikings had the audacity to work with another location rather than them.

Very much butthurt
The Vikings want to dance with who they brought to the prom and Minneapolis thinks they are the prom king and queen and deserve the Vikings. Well, sorry, you didn’t notice us for the last 10 years. Just because the Vikings got [insert preferable sexual feature] in the last 10 years and you want us now, it’s too little too late. We dancin’ w/ Arden Hills. Enjoy the TWolves.

I recommend not gloating too much
As there is no deal in place and whatever deal happens will need political support from Minneapolis.
Well aware there's no deal is place.
It’s Arden Hills or nothing though. Unless Minneapolis pulls out some crazy shit, they should get out of the way. That part of the story is done and over with.

My point was
Even Arden Hills will need votes from Minneapolis legislators to get done.
Honestly, I have no idea whether it’s Arden Hills or bust. The nice package the Vikes put together for the legislature to stamp it’s approval on seems to have blown up, so the question become whether the Vikes, the governor and the legislative stadium backers can come up with something else that can actually pass.
My guy tells me that it’s at least as likely that the thing that can pass is in Minneapolis, but who knows.
What next???
So they want the Vikings to meet with Minneapolis to help them narrow down the three site options… It’s not a requirement apparently, but it’s supposed to help everyone get a better idea of which site, Arden Hills or Minneapolis, is better.
I do believe that the Vikings could at least meet with Minneapolis to say if we had to be somewhere, we want to be here, but what good will that do? There’s way more planning needed for each Minneapolis site.
I agree with Christopher’s take on Minneapolis being upset that the Vikings will leave the city, but what ever happened to actions having consequences? Or maybe in this case I should say whatever happened to lack of actions having consequences? You’re too late Minneapolis… no excuses.
Absolutely agree

It is revenue Minneapolis will have to find elsewhere when the team leaves.
Who knows how they’re using it. Sounds like early stages of withdrawl going on.
The Vikings have been too good for MPLS since 1980’s. Now they’re taking things seriously only a few more weeks til lease expires. The failure to respond with a suitable plan means Mpls was a sleep at the wheel and screwed over by their no new taxes pledge.
The more I hear about this whining, the more I see Mpls taking the Vikings for granted and less deserving to host the team.

Wait, what?
I don’t think you’ll find too many downtown Minneapolis lawmakers on the list of those who pledged “no new taxes.”
A loss of 20 million per year ...
Will need taxes raised somehow if the vikings relocate. Hence all of the hoopla for an ‘exit’ fee or a final lease ‘squeeze’ deal for the interim.
It’s all sickening how politics works these days. If you were renting an apartment, and lease is up. You’re free to leave and collect your security deposit if place is left in good condition. no further conditions.
For the Viking’s stadium… it’s not that easy. No wonder why someone cooked up the idea of a 25 years free term to stay, so that Mpls can continue to collect taxes at $20 mill/year or $500 million over the term. Yikes.
Another 25 years at Metrodome? As is? That is a real head scratcher. Even a 4 year old child will know it’s a bad deal with a remote chance the roof will collaspe again. It just makes Mpls look more stupid and less deserving for the future home of the Vikings.
Mpls took a gamble of ‘assuming’ vikings will stay and held that position for 10 years. Time is up and leverage is lost when lease is expired. If vikings relocated to another area of Mpls, they could still recoup the tax $$. Relocating to Ramsay county is the game changer, which could have an initial cost of 20-40 million (guessing here) which can translate into a $460 million tax rev loss over 25 years, and a $500+ million tax rev gain in another county.
Yeah. Money is shifting. Big time $$ earthquake that’ll cost more than the 35W bridge.

I generally agree
But this is a commercial, not a residential, lease, and lots of other terms about what happens if you want to leave are not uncommon in commercial leases.
Also, that $20 mil number is the state, not the city.
Ted Mondale is my new hero.
I tuned in during my lunch hour and listened to Ted Mondale respond to John Marty’s question, “Why should we commit public money to a highly profitable team for a stadium”. Marty brought up other private businesses (Medtronic) that have built several new buildings to expand on their own dime, and wondered what the real “problem” is for the Vikings. It appears they really are clueless.
His response was great, and Ted Mondale is perfect to be leading the MN Sports Commission, and I’m convinced he definitely supports the Vikings new stadium effort. He mentioned that the Vikings were at the bottom of the league in revenue, and spoke about how they were being subsidized. He talked about the issues of size and amenities with the Metrodome, and hit every point head on.
I am cautiously optimistic.
SKOL Vikings!
Ted Mondale is a stud.

Watching this thing,
a lot of naysayers are getting shot the f*** down, especially by Ted Mondale, who is apparently a stud. Feeling pretty good after watching some of this.

And that crowd
finally gets shot down. About time.

I was there with my girlfriend
And we agreed that almost everyone who spoke in opposition of the stadium seemed to be an older, out of touch curmudgeony type of person. I thought that the people who spoke out in support of the stadium gave the members of the Senate a good piece of perspective.
Will Shapira is a moron.

Sounds like things are running nicely.
Much different when the people who oppose get the facts put in front of them. I’m not even judging others that oppose the stadium bill. How can I when people are simply misinformed or generalize this situation has a huge government bailout/handout and categorize it accordingly. This is much closer to a state/local investment that can have returns. No one can state those returns are guaranteed, but if they set it up so that the state/local gov’t get paid back before the Wilfs do, then what is the risk. It’s not like this is putting $$ into some deadbeat’s hand to go piss away the $$. It’s win-win for the state, IMO>
