I’m a die hard fan of the Denver Broncos and I come here in peace for us to discuss some football. I’m not a staffer for the Mile High Report blog, but I can consider myself as a good studious of the game. I expect to have a classy talk with you Vikings fans, since I think your agreements / disagreements and thoughts about the game could enrich us all. 

Star-divide

We are very excited about the Mile High Magic being translated to wins. We are in the hunt for the playoffs and after the 1-4 start with Kyle Orton I don't think anyone was expecting to be a post-season contender as we are right now. Von Miller, our #2 overall last draft, is the real deal and has an outstanding elite first step. He is also in the hunt to break the 14.5 rookie sacks mark (and hey, he is a 4-3 LB!).

How about you guys, do you expect Adrian Peterson to play? If he miss this game (for me he is the best RB of the NFL), what do you expect to see in Christian Ponder? I put myself at disposal to talk about our sunday game. Just ask what you want about the Denver Broncos or let's talk about the Minnesota Vikings' strenghness or weakness... it’s your call, pals.

I really don’t like to predict a score. First of all because I’m really bad on it, and second because it means nothing. I think the Broncos win because our D is supposed to hold your offense specially if Peterson is out…. But a score? Maybe 20×10... What do you predict, cowbell?

I’ll predict 24-20 Vikings if AD is playing, 20-17 if he’s not. This prediction is mainly because of the pressure our star ends can get with your run heavy offense.

Minnesota native Eric Decker is having a breakout year for your team.

He is rumored to be dating a really hot singer/entertainer. Does she go to his games?
Is Weber, Decker’s college QB here in Mn., still on your roster?

There is no reason to rush Adrian back into games until he is absolutely 100%. I would be surprised to see Adrian this week. Much to the chagrin of one of my fantasy teams.

Ponder’s effectiveness is directly related to how well the O-line plays. Most of the time that does not bode well for us. I expect Von Miller to close the gap on the rookie sack record.

Eric Decker is our #1 WR

We didn’t expect it in the offseason, but he won the job without a question. Hope he can return to the city making great catches. I just have no idea about his girlfriend lol. Weber was signed to the Practice Squad and will probably make the 3rd string job next season. He looked very nice in preseason…

The miss of Adrian could make some trouble to your offense. Our D is good against passes but allows a few big plays on the ground. Our DLine was crappy last season, but the front-office made a really good job building this new one. Denis Allen calls some very creative blitz packages and despite the season opener when we were completely ineffective, since there they are playing very well.

If you guys end with the #2 overall who do you want to pick?

I want an elite LT.

Kalil, Martin and Reiff are the top prospects. I think Martin is the way to go but most would say Kalil. We have a writer here, MarkSP18, who does amazing work on the draft. Read his stuff and then the comments to see how readers here at DN think.

I like Kalil very much. I still don’t understand why you guys let McK go, but it’s done and at least Kalil would be a great add to Ponder’s blindside.

McK showed up to camp overweight and out of shape.

He also did not seem to care. His salary was very high and we were having cap issues. I think it was an easy decision to release him. Luckily for McK, he caught on with a playoff team that needed a LT. And he realized the $ he was potentially going to lose and got his @$$ in gear. He also realized his record label business was not going to keep him in the lifestyle in which he has come to enjoy.

He is no longer (maybe never was) an elite LT. But he is better than anything on our current roster. I think in the long run, it was the best thing for all concerned. Remember, his 2010 season was abysmal.

I have Decker on both my fantasy teams. Since Tebow took over, the Denver passing stats have tanked. Decker’s TD production has surprisingly not suffered. He is a play against that sieve pass defense of ours.

I googled Eric Decker’s girlfriend. and she is really good looking.

Decker dropped a couple very catchable balls.

He had opportunities and didn’t take them. It was easily his worst game as a Bronco. Maybe Revis was in his head, but there were plays Decker would normally make that he didn’t.

I expect AD to play

Two weeks is plenty of time for an athlete like him to recover from an ankle sprain. If he does play, expect us to run, run, pass on almost every set of downs until you guys can prove you can stop it. If he’s out expect a lot of play action pass (most likely to a TE), run, pass.

If AD’s in, expect Ponder to take on the role of “don’t screw anything up” and take it on well. He will keep the chains moving on third and short and take care of the ball nicely in his limited role of about 25 attempts. If AD’s out, he’ll get a lot of work (35 attempts), maybe throw an interception or two, but keep plays alive and get a couple of clutch first downs.

Losing Adrian hurts any team

So I’m sure he can cause us a lot of trouble if he is on the field. I hope he returns only at the week after this, so our D will not suffer thaaaat much with the rush.

The curious part here is how you 25 attempts to CP is a limited role (which actually is really!) and when we think about Tim Tebow, 25 attempts mean a loooot of passes by him lol. Let me add a comment, I watched your game against the Packers and Ponder impressed me a lot. You guys almost made it, but GB is a tough game. They hammered us in Denver… looong afternoon with Rodgers. So what happened after that? Why the Vikes has a bad record like this? I’m sure the team is not a bad one… and btw I really hate Allen because of his past and he is one of the elite DEs of the league.

Well, after the game vs the Frackers, we faced the Panthers

We got a couple of turnovers that gave us short fields and got two easy TD’s off of them to get us a second win. Christian was pretty good in this one (28 attempts with AD by the way), but it was the 159 yards AD had that gave us the win.

Next week came the Frackers again, and without our top two corners, Chris Cook (domestic violence) and Antoine Winfield (injury during the game), our secondary was completely abused and we could not get them off the field. Penalties were also ridiculous (10 for 80 yards) and came at the worst times.

Then came the Raiders. We played a pretty solid game on offense and defense in this one, but Ponder threw two nasty interceptions inside the red zone and one mid-field that killed two very possible scores. Our offensive line was the worst I’d ever seen this game, and Ponder had to scramble out of the pocket damn near every down to keep from getting sacked (though he failed, or the offensive line failed him, 5 times). The Raiders TD drives were 53, 57, and 16 yards. When your opponent get’s that kind of field position regularly, you’re most likely not going to win. Ponder led a impressive comeback in the fourth to keep it from being a blowout.

And finally, the Falcons. We couldn’t tackle or cover for shit in this game, and because of it, we let them score on drives of 80, 68, and 73 yards, and let them get 6.8 YPP. Without AD, the offense was very inconsistent in this game and only managed one actual drive of 80 yards capped off by a 1 yard Toby Gerhart TD. Ponder was very good in this game, but stale play-calling (three straight runs up the middle on the goal line) and a very offensive line led to our loss again.

And it confirms what I think: you guys are not a bad football. Penalties and TOs are disgusting, aren’t it? Meh! The Chargers last year were the best offense AND the best defense of the NFL and didn’t reach the playoffs. Why? They lost the TO battle almost every single game… You can’t win this way.

Just to fill you in further,

In our first game of the year, we were up on the Chargers 17-0 at the half and lost 17-24.

In our second game of the year, we were up on the Buccaneers 20-0 at the half and pissed away another lead.

And finally, in our third game of the year, we were up on the Lions 23-0 at the half and we got Calvin Johnson’ed into overtime and lost 26-23.

Do you think?

The surge in Denver’s record is due to Tebow or to the phenomenal defense? Von Miller is bad, and not in a “I get burnt on every play” type of way. The guy is playing lights out and probably is one of the better picks out of last years draft. Dumervil is also living up to expectations, especially after the gruesome injury he suffered last year (torn pec I believe). Don’t have to mention Dawkins or Bailey, they do a great job of locking down the secondary.

Early in the year I had already chalked this game up as a win (was at the last meeting and cried when Troy Williamson dropped that easy pass in the game, and cried even more when TJack got the ball stripped from him in OT, and Shanahan brought out the FG unit to win the game) and now I’m convinced we’re going to be vying for the number 1 pick overall.

I’m just hoping for a defensive showing like Detroit. Shut down the run game and force Tebow to throw. Which in turn gives Allen a chance to put a comfy lead over Damarcus Ware for sacks.

I know a lot of wishful thinking, but I honestly see this as a really close game, which I think hurts MN chances for winning. If we are up more than a TD going into the 4th quarter, I think MN has a really good chance to win.

You have a good knowledge about the Broncos

Von Miller is the best pick perhaps of the decade for the Broncos. Dumervil yes had a pectorial injury (the most used muscle to his position) and struggles to play well in the beggining f this year, but he had a boom last games and is making a great job both rushing the passer and setting his edge (on that he surprised me, because I always thought he lacks too much against the run). Dawkins and Bailey are old, but man… they are great players yet! No doubt the D is responsible for keeping the game close enough for Tebow to make his 4th quarter magic and win it. I think it’s more a collective effort, kudos to the D playing great, to the offense playing enough and to Tebow making some magic in the 4ths (althought not showing it during the first 3s).

Early in the year, after being hammered in the season opener for the disgusting possums (Raiders), I thought we should be happy if we could repeat the pitiful 4-12, and I thought this game was supposed to be a L. But what a pleasant surprise… we are in the hunt to reach the playoffs and I think we beat you. To be honest, nobody can beat the Colts to the #1, and I don’t even think you end with the #2, but yes with the #3. It’s terrible, but an oportunity to get a stellar player and build around Ponder.

About the 4th, you guys need to be up by 16 with 2:43 on the clock. Because when our QB press the Tebow Mode button, wow! He can comeback with 2:44 losing by 15! lol.

Might be the understatement of the year. I’m an admitted homer, but I can’t think of a pick that even comes close to Miller at this point. Maybe a Cam Newton argument could be made based on his position, but I wouldn’t give Von up for Cam and a 1st right now. Miller looks like he should break the rookie sack record, and he’s a beast in coverage and against the run, as well.

But yeah, we’re winning because of complementary football. Our offense is not a juggernaut, but we don’t put the defense in bad positions. We win the field position battle almost every game with Tebow playing (props to Colquitt as well) because we don’t turn the ball over. In turn, the defense keeps the games close so that Tebow can do his thing in the 4th quarter. It really is a very synergistic relationship. Neither unit is absolutely elite, but they are both good and they cover each other’s backs.

Real Question:

What is your stat prediction for Tebow against our porous secondary? Do you think we’ll make him look like a viable NFL passer, because so far, he seems more like a RB masquerading as a QB?

2nd question: Do our starters on offense (assuming AP is out again) inspire any fear in the hearts of your defense?

WR: Harvin, Aromashadu, Camarillo
RB: Gerhardt, Booker

Who are those guys you’re asking yourself? Yeah…I didn’t think so. Good luck during your stop in MN on your way to improving your playoff chances.

1. Tebow is getting confidence and clearly improving week in week out. His last game numbers were 9/18, 143yds, TD. If he can just improve it a little we have a big chance to win. So, as I predict a W, 11/20, 180yds, 2TD (1 rushing) could be a good and realistic call for Tebow.

2. Not sure about the RBs, but I’m a Gator (not because of Tebow) and I know Percy Harvin very well. I have no doubt he is a big threat and your corp of WRs is a talented one. Fortunately, our pass defense is good (most because of our duo pass rushers)… and you should try to pound the rock to beat us.

If there's a team where Tebow can finally look good in the passing game...

It’s our terrible secondary so guess we’ll have to see who’s worse. On the flip side we might be able contain the Tebow option since although we’re not the super run defense we once were, we’re still pretty good at it. Broncos defense should man-handle our O-line though. Even if Peterson is in I think it’ll be one of those days where all his runs will be either 5+ yard nice plays or negative yards from someone letting him get gang tackled in the backfield.

The Raiders secondary is also not very good since they lost Asomugha

And I was expecting to see Tebow abusing it. (Un)fortunately, it didn’t happen because we rushed all the day long and they weren’t able to stop it! Hue said “Who is Tebow? I don’t know this guy” and had to eat his words. The point is that losing Winfield is a bad news to you and we have a chance to see (a) if McCoy can improve his playcalling with more passes and (b) if Tebow can accomplish it. I’m still not sure, but hopeful.

For the fans here

Percy Harvin seems to be the main offensive threat, especially if Peterson is hurt. What does Harvin struggle with, and what have teams done succesfully to contain him? I was thinking a CB could put a strobe light on his helmet to trigger a migraine.

Even though he has been migraine free all year

He has still had other nagging injuries, the rib injury specifically. He was also sick for a game or two and that limited his reps. Other than that the only thing that has really slowed him down is the inability for the offensive line to give Ponder enough time to find Percy. Musgrave’s playcalling has been suspect at times too.

The Metrodome

has specially designed lasers to vaporize anyone with strobe light helmets, so try again there, but yes Percy has, as NMVike pointed out, had some nagging injuries but for a guy not real big of stature plays with a real big heart. You’ll have to account for him.

Another question

Unfortunately, us Vikings can’t say that our offense OR defense is the strength of our team, our biggest strength is our Special Teams. We have Chris Kluwe consistently pinning opposing offenses inside the 20 with his booming punts, Ryan Longwell being his consistent self on field goal duty, Percy Harvin and Lorenzo Booker returning kicks, and Marcus Sherels returning punts. All of them have been fantastic this year.

How is your Special Teams’ coverage? Have they allowed any TD’s this year on punts or KO’s? Also, what is your kickers range?

Our special teams coverage is extremely good, and our ST, with the exception of our kicker over 40 yards, has been spectacular

Our punter, Britton Colquitt has been nothing less than an ALL PRO kicker this year. He has near the top of the league in net, and the kid can drill one 80 yards the opposite way, and pins many teams within the 10 to give us excellent field position. He is also pretty accurate and the corner coffin, which is nice to see.

It is amazing to see what a punter can do for you in coverage and field position! I don’t recall any TD’s off of a punt return or kick, but something tells me there was 1 from botched coverage. Typically, 3-5 yards at max is all teams get, however.

Prater can nail them in the warmth 70 yards, although he has been lousy this season anything over 40. He was EASILY breaking records prior to a game earlier this season, although since it was before a game, it didn’t count. Come game time, he couldn’t hit crap

Q. Why doesn't St. Paul have a professional football team?

Tim Tebow vs Vince Young

Tim Tebow: 6 and 1/2 games: 1 interception

Vince Young 3 starts: 9 interceptions

Both are good runners but that is where the comparison ends.

Yeah..

They aren’t even the same type of runners.

Plus Tebow is a natural leader and has the whole team buying what he’s selling, and might be the most coachable player in the history of the league.

VY is an emotional wreck, never got along with his coaches (in TEN anyway), and seems to be an entitled prick.

The one comparison that might work is that they both won a lot of games early in their career.

Broncos

Always liked the Broncos… well, except when McDaniels was coaching. I just didn’t like that arrogant little shit. Fortunately that didn’t last long.

I would definitely say the Broncs are the AFC team I’ve historically liked the most. It also helps that I love Colorado. Man, I miss skiing…

Would have loved to see our 1998 Vikings team go head-to-head with Elway in that SuperBowl. :{ I think we matched up with them a lot better than the Dirty Birds did.

Our season is already done for this year and although I’m still cheering for my boys in purple to win on Sunday, I wish the Broncos the best of luck for the rest of the season. Give ‘em hell (after us, of course)… and I’d love to see TE-BOW TE-BOW TE-BOW prove all of the ‘experts’ wrong and move your team deep into the playoffs.

I do think you have a good team and this season record is not much fair. A lack of focus maybe allowing comebacks? IDK, but I hope next season you can make a better season. I don’t like the Lions, they are a very dirty team, so it would be a pleasure to see you beating them twice.

While I wouldn't give up a super bowl win for anything...

… it’s hard not to lament what could have been in terms of epic games if you guys could have beaten the Falcons in the NFC Championship in the year you went 15-1 and the Broncs went 14-2.

okay i have cerebral palsy arthris and chronic fatigue as well i have a great life and loveing folks some days are better than other days i got a make-a-wish in 2001 and saw my favorite team the broncos it was the trip of a lifetime i wish everyone couild have gotten to enjoy that with me i know some of u hate the broncos and that okay but i bleed organ and bule for my mnr fans but i bleed orange and blue denver will rise again resident broncos fan for every blog resident broncos for stampede bule thanks shvd98z24 real name jeremy woodard nettleton high class of 02 yes i am a raider Stay humble in victory respect all fear none and finish larry soprano

You definitely matched up better than the Falcons.

I got to go to that Super Bowl, and believe me I was relieved when you guys lost. Randy Moss scared the shiznick out of me and I hated the idea that we might lose the only Super Bowl I’ll ever get a chance to go to. (It didn’t help that we were losing to the lowly Jets at halftime of the AFC Championship game, either. I was a nervous wreck sitting with two SB tickets and imagining a NYJ/MIN or ATL SB).

You guys were unstoppable on offense that year, and we had a solid defense, but it was by no means our strength. It would’ve come down to whether TD could keep your offense off the field or not. We had a stellar passing offense, but I didn’t really want to get into a shoot-out with you guys.

In other news (not really)

ESPN reported that A. Peterson will be out for the game this weekend. Broncos V. Miller was seen practicing this morning with a club on his hand and will be questionable for the game, however if he’s practicing and flying with the team, odds are he’ll play IMO.
