U-G-L-Y, They Ain't Got No Alibi...

Nope, the Minnesota Vikings truly do not have an alibi after that excruciating loss to the Lions last Sunday. Yes, it was ugly. My thoughts...

Yes, Joe Webb did lead a remarkable comeback effort. Yes, he was exciting to watch run around. BUT...does anyone really think that he is the long-term QB answer? I, for one, answer that with a resounding 'NO!". From the end of last year and his spot duty this year, Webb has never shown me the ability to be a superstar NFL QB. He's as athletic as all get-up, but lacks the experience and knowledge necessary to truly lead a team at that position. Don't get me wrong...I love what the guy brings to the table in terms of speed and energy. But, I hate how the local papers are turning his "savior" stint into a QB controversy. There is nothing of the kind. Ponder is our QB and any departure from that plan would not only be just plain dumb, but also suicidal to the organization.

Speaking of Ponder, I completely agreed with him being benched against the Lions. Why? Not only because of his health issues, but he was clearly starting to press too hard on throws and began getting frustrated. It cannot be easy to be in his position right now, where he only has Harvin to throw to, no Petey to take hand-offs, an offensive line that practically puts him in the grave on every play, and a D that requires a mammoth comeback effort every week. Ponder will be just fine...so long as the coaches don't heed the pressure from the idiotic local newspapers regarding Webb.

The game itself, of course, was lost on turnovers. What a joke. On that final play from the one yard line, I didn't even see the facemask replay, as I stormed out of the room in anger as soon as I saw the ball hit the ground. It's kind of like Charlie Brown lining up to kick the football. Even if history suggests that Lucy will pull it away at the last instant, it's still tantalizingly within your grasp.

Perhaps, however, through all the frustration, it is encouraging that this team is still fighting. That's the main reason why I'm still a Frazier-backer when many have jumped shipped on him. I like that his players are not giving up on him (like they did with Childress last year). That is why I continue to have hope.
