Which College Players Are Future Vikings? Season Review and Bowl Week 1 Primer

The season is over. It was a pretty good season although I am not too thrilled about seeing a low scoring BCS Championship game. How Alabama still got in is a complete joke. They did not play as strong a schedule as Oklahoma State and thus should not have went to the big game. Their defense is supposedly really good as is LSU but what offenses have they faced that are really good? Here are the rankings of the offenses that Alabama has faced.

Kent St 119, Penn St 94, North Texas 98, Arkansas 27, Florida 102, Vanderbilt 97, Ole Miss 114, Tennessee 103, LSU 75, Miss St 87, Auburn 104. They faced Georgia Southern too which is an FCS school. Nice. Is it a wonder their defense is so good? Geez. Can they play someone with a decent offense?

This is why the system is broken. The SEC is overrated this year when you consider the pathetic offenses in the conference. It is not because the defenses are that great (well LSU & Alabama are definitely good). It could be but we will never know because Alabama schedules no one outside of their conference. So they are just getting by on the "reputation" of the SEC. If they faced some decent offenses week after week then maybe you could get a better idea of how good is their defense.

Here are the rankings of the offenses that Oklahoma State has faced.
LA-Lafayette 65, Arizona 16, Tulsa 23, Texas A&M 7, Kansas 106, Texas 44, Missouri 12, Baylor 2, Kansas St 96, Texas Tech 7, Iowa State 56, Oklahoma 4. Pretty good offenses to have to face all year and not one FCS school.

Now some would say that the offenses are better in the Big 12 because the defenses are so bad. Some would say the defenses in the SEC are ranked high because they play garbage offenses. Who knows?

Alabama should face some tough teams. At least LSU played Oregon & West Virginia. They still managed to sneak in a "scrimmage" vs Northwestern State. There are plenty of FBS schools that they could and should face each and every year.

The system is a joke as we all know.

Here is the list of prospects that I have followed this season.

Here is an current mock with two compensatory picks. I am hoping for one compensatory pick to be at the end of the third round and the other at the end of the seventh.

The Vikings are set to pick 2nd according to this site http://www.thehuddlereport.com/Free/draftorder.shtml.

Also the Vikings traded their 6th round pick to Washington for McNabb. I am not sure if it is a 5th. They also are set to receive New England's 7th round pick for the Moss trade, the Giant's probable 7th round pick for the Sage Rosenfels & Darius Reynauld trade, and Cleveland's probable 6th round pick for the Jayme Mitchell trade.

So here goes a draft with one trade down in the first round.

The Vikings trade the #2 overall pick (2600 points) to the Cleveland Browns for the #8 (1400 points) & #22 (780 points) picks plus their 2013 2nd round pick. In this scenario Cleveland jumps ahead of Washington to get a QB (Matt Barkley or Robert Griffin III).

So here are my Vikings picks ...
