Week 16 Late Games Discussion Thread
There will be a recap of the Vikings 33-26 win over the Washington Redskins here momentarily, but in the meantime, feel free to use this area to discuss the late NFL action, as well as any of the other games that have taken place in Week 16 so far.
Apparently there was a fight in Detroit while the players were running out of the tunnel. (The Lions, involved in something potentially dirty? Why, I never.)
We're still trying to get more on the injuries to Adrian Peterson and Christian Ponder, among other things, and we're certainly going to have a lot to discuss. We have no Sunday night game this evening, so after this afternoon's games are over, you're going to have to, like, spend time with your families and stuff like that.
But, there is still plenty of NFL action going on, so hang out with your fellow Vikings' fans and talk about it right here.

Most depressing Vikings win ever for me
Not because of the draft pick position stuff, but because of AP and Ponder.
Good win, bad day.
"Go hard. I mean, like relentless. I want a bunch of coaches that coach like their hair’s on fire, and I want a football team that goes for four to six seconds (per play) with relentless effort." OSU Coach Urban Meyer.
Dont retire the jersey
Wear it with pride and remember…
Gol-dangit!
We won! Don’t this put the toad in the stew for our draft position. Way-ull, I reckon it’s ok. Good to see the boys win again. And get an interception! Yeee-haw! And all you Toby Gerhart trolls can just eat a big plate of crow! Good on ye, Toby!
"Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction." - Old Cowboy proverb.
I was proud of Toby and have believed in him from the start.
But seriously angry about the asinine and pointless victory. Killed our chances for a franchise changing draft pick. Just dumb. Classic Vikings though. Turn a win into a moral loss anyway.
BOOO!! \:(
Yes because we should all live by the motto.... "Be a quitter if it gets you something in the end"
I bet you believe in “Steal if you can get away with it too”
Yes, because an opinions must define everything about a person on the internet, right?
Go troll somewhere else, it’s Christmas dude. ;)
Ya know
the most common thing I see you saying to other people on here is to go somewhere else, when you provide proof of ownership of the site then feel free to order people around, but until then……..if you want to put your opinion out there and and insinuate that people or groups of people should take the easy way out of a sucky situation then expect whatever you get in return.
Feels good to see a Vikes win.
I’ll take a win any day.
Here are your choices:
1) Step in front of a Ford F-150 moving 35 mph.
2) Tackle Ahmad Bradshaw 1 on 1. That dude is a beast.
"Go hard. I mean, like relentless. I want a bunch of coaches that coach like their hair’s on fire, and I want a football team that goes for four to six seconds (per play) with relentless effort." OSU Coach Urban Meyer.
Try to tackle Ahmad Bradshaw
If I step in front of a F-150 I’m going to get hit. If I try to tackle Amhad Bradshaw I’m going to be picking up my shorts every time, because he is way faster than me.
Doesn't really matter though
They need him for next week.
"I learned something yesterday. No use in having rules if there's no punishment for breaking them. You'll be fine if you bite down on the trigger. Enjoy your breakfast."
Really?
They finally win a game, and I was busy making a metric buttload of cookies with my wife and son. Not complaining, it was a lot of fun, just wished I could have watched a win for once.

so you made the right call..

They are trying real hard to surpass the Cowboys on my #1 most hated team....
an honor the Saints held for a few weeks one recent January.
Annoyed at the win
Pointless victory that cost our team a huge draft pick. Man, we lose even when we win.
Sucks about the injuries to Peterson and Ponder but now we have a legit QB controversy too. Webb’s impact can’t be denied and I was a doubter before. Second game that he’s come in and changed things around AND won the game, basically.
Also pleased about Gerhart who I’ve supported since the start. Nice to see him prove the know-it-all doubters around these parts wrong, too. Good job, Toby!! WOOT!
Annoyed at the injuries, though, too…and they make me feel even better about my desire to see us explore the idea of trading Peterson before he’s really hurt and can’t play anymore (poor dude – hope it never happens).
I thought that last season sucked but this one is worse, honestly. We can’t do ANYTHING right, I swear. LOL
Possibly
Though declared, I think he has until Jan 15 to back out (could be wrong). A lot depends on next week and it’s not a sure thing that he’d pan out either. If we lose him, there’s some other stud young lineman to look at as well. Stay cheerful, it’s x-mas!
Nah, Kalil's going to the draft
The Rams will take him
Jason Giambi for player-manager in 2012!
How the world will end in 2012: George of the Roses builds a Machine that Pommels everyone with La Violencia during Whiteouts.
Early twitter reports
from the beat writers are stating that AP is not optimistic for his MRI. He said he knows it was worse than in 2007 since his leg was planted this time.
Stats to notice today
Ponder: 8/13 (61.5%), 68 Yds, 0 TD, 0 INT
Webb: 4/5 (80%), 84 Yds, 2 TD, 0 INT
Peterson: 12 carries for 38 Yds and a TD
Gerhart: 11 carries for 109 Yds
Webb: 5 carries for 34 Yds and a TD
Harvin: 4 carries for 39 Yds
Ponder: 4 carries for 20 Yds
Raymond: 1 tackle, 5 assists, 1 interception
Still could break the record.
It’s Josh McKnown (Most Likely) and the Bear’s O-line next week. Definently in the realm of possibility.
Optimistically doubting it
I’d love to see him get 41/2 sacks next week but that’s a tall order no matter who the opposing QB is.
Yep........
too bad he isn’t going up against the Lions’ left tackle, whom he absolutely abused earlier this year.
He'll probably break Doleman's record
but it’s Jared Allen. He could have a 4 sack game next week or he might not even get a tackle.
I wonder what webb's total Qb rating will be
Top five among all qb’s this week!??

You can't get a higher rating than he has this week. 158.3

This day marks a new beginning in Viking history...
mark it down. It is always darkest before the dawn, my friends. There WILL be a Lombardi trophy in the entrance to the Arden Hills stadium within 4 years. There is such a thing as the Due Factor———and the Vikings embody it.
What the heck happened to Tampa Bay this season? Carolina spanked them today.
I noticed Cam Newton had a freakishly efficient day as well. He is looking scary good.

We really need a new Defensive Coordinator.
It’s nice to know we have a somewhat competent safety in Raymond and Benny Sapp has been above average in some areas, but our secondary is complete trash outside of that. We should look into starting Jarrad Page next week. If Josh McKnown throws for over 200 yards next week we are in trouble.
And welcome back to earth, Tim Tebow.

I like Tebow......
would not be mad if we had a roster full of players with his heart. He will continue to improve, IMO.
Maybe defenses are now game planning him

it'll live on...
If they manage to make the playoffs. Raiders are making their case though.
Well good news...
Whether you prefer Ponder or Webb… we don’t need Luck. Hopefully we can get over that right now.
Webb has that wow factor… and is right now a better choice with such a bad O-line. After some drafts and O-line remodeling though Ponder’s passing might prove him the better option… Although our secondary just needs a complete facelift. Good to see a rookie break the pick streak, even if it was a gimmie. A lot of players would still blow the gimmie. He didn’t.
Also, lol Tebow. 4 picks. The real Tebow finally comes out when he has to pass more.

Ponder vs. Webb
will be settled in training camp next year. Whoever wins, gets to start, and whoever loses will be a great backup. We just need to focus on our other problems for now. This is not a terrible situation to be in.
I don't think so
being a 1st round pick means you have years to suck before they replace you. Look at Alex smith . That dude has been bad for years but he keep his job because he was a 1st round pick
And that seemed to work out alright this year
Billick: "What did McNabb do to deserve being benched?"
Answer: He upset PETA by killing every worm he came across on a football field.
Yeah
A broken clock is right twice a day. Smith is a game manager that is all. He will be replaced in a year. Book it
After your comments in the last thread, we are supposed to take anything you say serious?
Billick: "What did McNabb do to deserve being benched?"

My last post on the other thread
I Was giving vikings fans the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Webb. I guess you need to read some psychology books to understand my point.
I got your point
I’ve taken psychology classes, you were trying to imply people didn’t like Jackson based solely on race, that has nothing to do with Vikings fans and all to do with your view of the world. Maybe you need a psychologist to sort out your hate?
Billick: "What did McNabb do to deserve being benched?"
Answer: He upset PETA by killing every worm he came across on a football field.
Why are you using the race card.
I said people don’t like Joe because they had a bad experience with Jackson. I said nothing about people not liking Jackson because he is black.
That's exactly what you and Los Vikingos said
Billick: "What did McNabb do to deserve being benched?"
Answer: He upset PETA by killing every worm he came across on a football field.
That's not really true. He was going to get cut, and he restructured his rookie deal
to take a small salary and a one year deal. He has been going on one year deals for a few years now. Plus, he has had to deal with several different offensive coordinators. He isn’t the stud passer that the big boys are, but he is a very good leader and game manager. I wouldn’t say he sucks.

Ponder went through that media fiasco.
Don’t need that. Pick #199 is fine, still top 1% of available players out of college.

But Smith got a huge contract. With the new cba, Ponder is pretty cheap.
Smith 2006 contract: 6 years / $49.5 million / $24 million guaranteed.
Ponder 2011 c0ntract: 4 years / $10.15 million / $10.15 million guaranteed.

What scares me...
Is that now Webb supporters/Ponder haters will be clashing. I just hope that a clear #1 can emerge between the two and the fans support that guy. Remember, “If you have 2 QBs, you don’t have 1 QB”.

I hope whoever is under center, we can all, as fans, try to support him no matter what screw-ups they may encounter. Let’s all hope for a great 2012 season with #7 or #14…..whoever it will be.
Yes - we can win with both
Just have to learn how. Both QB’s are starting out from the same ground zero position with Musgrave. Make it work as Tim Gunn would say.

Anyone notice that this draft is pretty deep in Olineman?
Even if we miss on Matt Kalil if he is drafted or stays in school, we can still get an outstanding guard like David DeCastro or a Riley Rieff/Andrew Dakto/Zebrie Sanders
they
are calling petersons injury a sprain right now but are getting an mri tonight, either way if he walks away with a sprain he should be done for the year. hopefully we are lucky and he only sprianed it… thought i doubt it
No way was that just a sprain
I haven’t seen anything like that since Culpepper’s knee got turned to spaghetti.
His left foot wasn't even touching the ground coming off the field.....
he may miss a good chunk of/all of next season.
According to the Twitters
Pelissero spoke to AP, and AP said he is certain this is a lot worse than when he hurt his knee in 2007.

good news is that blowd from the front typically result in sprains, ie hyperextensions of the ligaments as opposed to lateral strikes which tear those lugaments
