Sugarman says

PCL and LCL are healthy and uninjured, which is good news. Just the ACL and MCL.

Rehab has already started. . .says goal is to increase range of motion, reduce swelling, and keep quadriceps strong prior to surgery, which will happen in next 7-10 days.

Expected rehab

Says “most people” would recover at 8-9 months.

Wants Peterson to stand on his own merits, because he thinks Peterson is very unique.

Sugarman says the goal

Is to have Peterson ready for the first game of next year.

I personally think that’s a bit optimistic, but hey. . .stranger things have happened.

That does some quick

I really hope they don’t try to rush him back you know he’ll be fighting to get back as quickly as possible.

by MrBungle85 on Dec 26, 2011 12:39 PM CST up reply actions

Me too

I don’t want him back until 110%. We saw what happened to Cedric, which is not so uncommon, when the other knee tries to overcompensate for the weaker one.

by Murgo on Dec 26, 2011 12:40 PM CST up reply actions

I doubt

That we will be competing for a championship or anything next year so I say you sit him out for as long as he needs even if it means him missing half or more of the season.

Why, cuz he's black?

Sorry in advance to Chris and the rest of DN, but I think this guy is nothing but a racial troll. Viking fan or not, he deserves banishment.

by Murgo on Dec 26, 2011 12:53 PM CST up reply actions

No that has nothing to do with it

I just heard what Leslie Frazier said about Joe. To me it sounds like a guy who does not think Joe is a good QB. I think Joe has played well and he deserves a shot. So why are using the Race card.

It might be a little different than that.

Frazier and Company used a 1st round draft pick on Ponder, If they show any wavering in their support for him right now, they are going to look like waffling fools (like we already don’t think that). What they end up doing and what they say in these pressers are 2 different things. I believe that he is just saying whatever is going to be the least controversial. But, in the offseason, I think it is in his best interest to develop Webb as much as possible along side “the chosen one” to create com[petition and entice Ponder to try to develop more. I also think it’s pretty clear who the better prospect is here, of course that would be SPIDERMAN !!!

well then who the hell are you talkin' to...are you talkin' to me?

by krinkle on Dec 26, 2011 1:59 PM CST up reply actions

My hope is that

He does sink with the ponder ship IF he doesn’t pan out. I agree that joe can be a good qb… Maybe not an accurate passer but he can escape the rush better than Vick in his prime IMO and Vick wasn’t accurate until his first starting season after prison.

I don’t want to get too into that because I like both of their strengths and think both could be decent qbs. But I agree that joe should go to somewhere that will give him a chance because due to ponder being a first rounder…and maybe rightfully so. But Frazier cannot do a Childress and keep someone around just because he put a lot of stock in him. I say give ponder the offseason and about halfway through next season, if he doesn’t perform it should be spidermans turn. If they can get at least a second rounder for him maybe they should do it, you can’t tell me other teams havent noticed this guy.

by reebs on Dec 26, 2011 2:36 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

I say have an open competition for the starting qb during training camp.

There is no shame in playing Webb enough to develop him, and giveing him the nod if he continues to make the team go. Ponder is also a good prospect, but he is not the second coming. He is also inexpensive, it’s not like he got Bradford money, he is getting less than half of what they just gave to Sullivan (I’m puking now). He also costs less than Kleinsasser.

well then who the hell are you talkin' to...are you talkin' to me?

by krinkle on Dec 26, 2011 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

Obviously it's in the teams best interest to develop Webb and Ponder (the choseoaken, really?) as both are in the Vikings roster

I think Ponder is obviously the better prospect as he was a rookie with no training camps and still beat out a second year QB. There is no denying that Webb is a world class athlete but I don’t know why you feel Ponder needs to be “enticed” to develop. Going into the offseason. I hope both can learn and develop as it only makes the team better. After a complete offseason we can see who has developed and gives the Vikings the best chance moving forward.

RE/I think Ponder is obviously the better prospect... ?

I respectively disagree. Webb has a stronger arm, is more athletic, shows more poise in the pocket, and has been flat out outperforming Ponder. What’s so obvious about it? As for Webb having an extra year of training camp, I think that’s a little misleading. Ponder has been given first string repetitions, while Webb has been running the scout team. There’s a huge difference. There also seems to be a big double standard. Posters think that Ponder will improve, yet they think Webb never will. I personally have seen a huge improvement in Webb’s accuracy and I feel that comes with an increase of meaningful snaps.

by vking1 on Dec 26, 2011 5:07 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

RE/Ponder beat out a second year QB ??

Not really. Webb looked better in the preseason too. The Vikings reached on Ponder and knew it. The last game of the preseason was to determine McNabb’s backup, when in reality the Vikings already knew it was going to be Ponder. Ponder was to play the first half and Webb would play the second half. Funny thing though, Ponder played well into the third. WHY? Because the Vikings already knew that Ponder would be McNabb’s backup. The Vikings were waiting for Ponder to make that great play. Waiting for something to point at and declare “Ponder our backup”. That great play never came. When Webb’s turn finally came, he wasn’t allowed to throw the ball. The Viking brass were afraid Webb would upstage Ponder. Webb spent the rest of the game handing off to Caleb King. As I said, Ponder did not beat out Webb, it wasn’t a fair competition.

by vking1 on Dec 26, 2011 5:25 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Damn auto correct

The point of my post is it’s ridiculous to state so and so is an absolute better prospect, we should trade one, etc because we haven’t seen enough of either of them to know. Why is it so bad to hope both develop? It seems posters on bth sides have made it Webb v Ponder rather than hoping for the better QB to emerge.
Although I do see this as lose-lose for Ponder, if he legit wins the starting job next year Webb supporters will still say it’s because he’s the “chosen one” and if he loses it to Webb he’s already declared a bust. Just my 2cents.

by krinkle on Dec 26, 2011 8:48 PM CST up reply actions

No I think Ponder gives the team a better chance moving forward.

I think Ponder will be the better QB if he is given time to develop. Webb is probably better suited to win with our crappy o-line but I think Ponder will give the Vikings their best chance if he can get an offensive line.

I agree that Webb deserves the chance to play more and develop at qb.

I also agree that Webb has more talent than Ponder. Good call.

Nothing more annoying to me than when people make stupid comments like what you just made.

Please stop throwing out race any time someone has an issue with someone. It’s not 2008 my man.

Sorry, call it like I see it.

No, you don't really see it

I made that comment because the person that I was responding to is the one that makes it ALL the time. So much so that I cringe every time I see him start to post. Did you not catch the “racial troll” part of my comment?

by Murgo on Dec 27, 2011 5:03 AM CST up reply actions

Yes, I think I do see it

I’m usually here often enough to keep up, and I haven’t noticed any type of trolling from him.

by dsludo on Dec 27, 2011 7:45 AM CST up reply actions

If you're here that often

then you’d know that that is the first comment I’ve made about the issue. Do you see that?

by Murgo on Dec 27, 2011 10:34 AM CST up reply actions

What I see is that I have been here quite a bit longer than you

Am I on the site 23.5 hours a day like you are? No, but I’m on here enough.

In regards to your link below, I was there when he posted it. if that is all you have it’s weak. And definitely way to weak to throw out the statement that you made. Were his words poorly chosen? Sure.

As far as I can tell he seems critical of Ponder, so you could deduce that he wants Webb to start. Although I am just speculating about him wanting Webb.

by dsludo on Dec 27, 2011 5:41 PM CST up reply actions

You're bitching at the wrong guy about the race card

The guy brings it up all the god damn time and even in the link, he brings it up in a “mild version” as I said. I think the race card is fucking stupid so don’t bust my chops because I wanted to bust his chops about it. I was pre-empting him from doing it. Get it?

I don’t care if he likes Webb or Ponder. I just don’t think the reason to like either one is due to race, and he, along with los vikingos feel the opposite. Or more accurately, they think Webb, and in his case specifcally Cam Newton, aren’t given a chance or liked is due to the color of their skin. Which, again, I think is downright stupid in this day and age. And yes, people use the race card way too much for just about anything.

Are we clear now?

If Sugarman says he thinks AP will be ready for the season opener

I believe him. Remember, this is the head trainer that had Cedric Griffin playing without missing any time after two ACL surgeries, and EJ Henderson playing in the season opener after the worst leg break I’ve ever seen.

I mean, Sugarman and his staff invented ‘the Henderson Protocols’ in regards to EJ’s rehab with his broken leg, fergodsakes.

Add Sugarman’s ability with AP’s heart and will, I will almost be disappointed if he isn’t on the field to start the season.

But he didn't say he thought he would be ready for the season opener.

He said 8-9 months is what they hope for at this time, and that he will alllow Frazier to update that projection along the way. He also said that their first game is in about 8 months. And he said that means they are hopeful they can get him back for the first part of the season. It was a beautifully vague stament that he made.

well then who the hell are you talkin' to...are you talkin' to me?

by krinkle on Dec 26, 2011 2:02 PM CST up reply actions

Let's not be too quick to point to Sugarman's success with rehab

Griffin and Henderson are now shells of their former self and both have seemed to have lost a step this year. Hopefully we don’t see the same thing with Peterson.

Ponder. Peterson. Percy. Purple Perfection.

by CCNorsemen on Dec 26, 2011 5:09 PM CST up reply actions

Griffin and Henderson can't be compared with AP

AP is on a whole different level physically than either of them. I think a lot of Griffen’s problem is mentally. At least he looks pretty shaky on the field and Frazier has inferred in some of his pressers that Ced has lost confidence in his abilities.

Henderson shattered his femur and had to have it replaced by a titanium rod. It’s a wonder that he’s out on the field at all.

by Amrius on Dec 26, 2011 5:57 PM CST up reply actions

Also, a leg break is nothing like shredding 2 ligaments and tearing cartilage in the knee.

I’d be prepared to wait and make sure he is properly healed. Hopefully he will regain most of what he had. But history tells us to be prepared for some fall off in performance.

well then who the hell are you talkin' to...are you talkin' to me?

by krinkle on Dec 26, 2011 9:01 PM CST up reply actions

glad to hear AP is already looking forward

not feeling sorry for himself, etc. that determination will help reinforce his confidence going forward.

on a separate note, LF kind of side-stepped the question on Ced’s future with the team. i think that kind of confirms what we all suspected.

I think AP will done for the whole year. Not 8-9 months It will take him a year to get back 90%
