Minnesota Vikings Cornerback Benny Sapp (Edit: NOT) Arrested
EDIT: Okay, we now have something that says that Sapp was issued a citation, but was not arrested. Thanks to Judd Zulgad for the info.
We apologize to Benny Sapp for jumping the gun on this one. You know, not that he's reading or anything, but I still feel bad for putting it out there before there was anything really concrete.
According to the Twitter, anyway.
Yep. . .just had to squeeze one more in there before the new year, didn't we?
Ah, well. . .not sure what exactly Benny Sapp did, although I'm sure the details will be along here soon. My guess is that it was something that occurred after 2 AM somewhere in the Cities, but I can't say for sure.
Just one more sign that the season can't possibly get over with soon enough.

Seriously guys. 2 more days. You’re killing me.
Ponder. Peterson. Percy. Purple Perfection.
Great week in Minnesota sports
The Wild got back to winning, the Wolves looked like a real NBA team, and the Vikings … had no injuries or incarcerations!
There's still time
for the stadium to collapse, Frazier to get fired and Favre to make a comeback.
the season cant end soon enough
what the heck is wrong with with this team? Why do are players have a need to break the law? why?!?!?!
Was it after last call?
Maybe he just likes beer.

Dummy
one more hole in the line up to fill and one of the best vikes ever is retiring so sorry about this Jimmy
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Well I was on the fence about re-signing him, he now made that decision easier
Bye bye Sapp, maybe the Raiders will sign you…
I hope you chose the right side of the fence
We can only acquire so many CBs through FA/draft. Sapp has been one of the few competent players in the whole secondary, in spite of not joining the team until a dozen weeks in. At the very least he’d be a decent backup. So we’re looking at:
CB
Cook*, Draft/FA, Winfield
Sapp, Burton, Sherels
Safety
Raymond, Draft/FA
Abdullah, Sanford
Well I guess he DIDN"T make it easier
As the report was false, but anyway you spell it we need two new CB’s this coming offseason , even if Cook does not have to do any jail time, and at least two new safeties.
Nope
It now is being reported by the STrib that he was cited for an incident and released. Not so bad.
Skol Vikings.
Submitting my resume to be the next Vikings CB now.
Pro: Not named Cedric Griffin, Asher Allen, Benny Sapp, Chris Cook.
Con: Not entirely sure I actually can play better than Griffin, Allen or Sapp.
Pro: Won’t get arrested before Sunday. Promise.
Con: Forgot New Year’s Eve is tomorrow. Adjusting Promise to “Promise”.
Pro: Will work for signed Jim Kleinsasser jersey.
Con: Will act like 13 yo girl at backstage at a Justin Beiber concert upon meeting Jim Kleinsasser.
Pro: In every NFL game I’ve ever started, I have yet to NOT have an interception.
Con: …also have 0 stats due to never having started an NFL game.
Pro: Was once courted by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Con: That is a complete lie.
Pro: Will try my damndest to tackle someone, cuz that would be AWESOME.
Con: Guarantee I will be run over by 99% of pro NFL players. (Not sure who the 1% I COULD tackle are, but c’mon, there’s gotta be SOMEONE I could bring down.)
Pro: Will listen whenever Fred Pagac, Joe Woods, or Leslie Frazier (whoever is play calling for DBs nowadays) tells me to do something, and will not attempt an ‘on the fly impromtu adjustement’.
Con: Will also have almost no clue as to half of what they tell me to do.
Pro: Guarantee TV viewers will not notice the difference once I join the squad.
…there you have it! More pros than cons.

I'm sure you could take on a kicker
Just gotta wait for a botched snap
"You can write articles and do whatever you want, you can break down every player. Good, bad or ugly. But we just aren't good enough as a team, as a group. Offensively, defensively and special teams, from the No. 1 on the roster to the last man on the roster. We just aren't good enough. It's as simple as that." - Chad Greenway

There's a hint of truth to this
The way our secondary plays, you’d think being on the field was some kind of punishment. There are a ton of super-athletic, intelligent guys out there who would kill for a chance to play in the NFL, and are probably more talented than these clowns anyway.
WTF!!!
We could sign a nun to the roster next year and she would go to jail for assault and robbery of a blind child on Halloween night.
They secretly have a contest going on with Oakland, that’s the only explanation.
Given that the season is already lost
and hope is nowhere in sight, they could go one of two ways:
1. Be an adult and a professional – work hard and accelerate the rebuilding process.
Followers of this path: AD, Percy, Ponder, Webb, Jared Allen, Winfield, Kleinsasser, Greenway, Gerhart, KWilliams, Mistral Raymond, Everson Griffen.
2. Get the crazy out now, improve our draft picks and hope for better days.
Followers of this path: everyone else, including the coaches.
Apparently he "Chest Bumped" a Children's Hospital security guard.
Perhaps in celebration? I don’t know, this story is really weird.
Just what we needed
more of the implosion of 2011 in the headlines. While I was never keen on Sapp, I understand why the Vikings resigned him. However, with one game left, I sincerely hope that the team and the coaching staff start addressing the issues that have gone on this season. I’m still ticked that Cook is part of the team. Things have got to change with the attitudes some players seem to have.
Gentlemen! You can't fight in here, this is a war room!
its not just the vikings
Every team has people that get in trouble with the law. unfortunately its a part of the game. i think there should be much stiffer punishment for getting in trouble depending on the crime. in cooks case i think if convicted he should be suspended for an entire year. then if he gets in trouble for something again it should be a lifeime ban. if a player does something bad enough he should instantly be barred from playing ever again. If people want want to be thugs they should not be allowed to play this great sport and be role models. Young kids hear about this kind of crap and may get the idea that its ok that you choke dogs to death, beat up your girlfriend, shoot yourself in the club, etc… because they get to come back and make millions to play this game they love to watch.
Im not sure what the whole sapp situation is..sounds lame..ive ran into security guards in life that are a-holes and take their job to seriously. not trying to down play the situation but i wasnt there and there are few details available. I like sapp as a player, while not great hes probably the best we have now and if resigned will give some depth so i’m hoping this wasnt that big of a deal.
