While reading over some of the posts we have regarding draft position got me thinking. A previous post indicated that we should now be focusing on improving and developing our players, but to continue to lose to lock up a high draft spot. The thought process being, now that there isn't a large financial obligation, we could get a high draft pick to help build the team, and rebuild faster.
Here's where i got to thinking about last year. we finished with an SOS of .504 (129-127 W/L) which was the second strongest strength of schedule among 6-10 teams with Detroit being the strongest. We drafted Ponder at 12, and etc.
Now, if we wouldn't have beat Philly that crazy Tuesday night, we would have been 5-11. The other 5-11 team happened to be the Cleveland Browns and they had an SOS of .516. Which would have meant we would have drafted 5th over all (The SOS would be .508)
Now we're drafting 5th over all. Do we draft a QB (Gabbert and Locker are on the board), Draft BPA (Julio Jones) or get the bounty of picks that Atlanta gave up to get Green. I think we would have had a shot to still get Ponder late in the first round (if i remember correctly, Cleveland traded that pick down but i haven't looked that close) Or could have grabbed Dalton possibly in the second
What do you think? Though if's and buts are candy and nuts, it's just a slow news day and kind of relavent
