Brett Favre Voted Most Hated Player In NFL In Hollywood Reporter Poll

Haters gonna hate. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

The folks from the Hollywood Reporter sent me the results of a poll that they had conducted. . .not sure what the basis was or how many people they polled or anything like that. . .but those results say that Minnesota Vikings' quarterback Brett Favre was voted as the most hated player in the NFL for 2010.

The results of the poll, if nothing else, show exactly how deeply into their rectal cavities most casual sports fans have jammed their heads. Why do I say that? Well, here are the top five in the poll, in order.

-Vikings quarterback Brett Favre
-Eagles quarterback Michael Vick
-Patriots quarterback Tom Brady
-Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger
-Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo

So, apparently, (allegedly) sending pictures of your junk to a sideline reporter (who may or may not have reciprocated or given any indication she wanted such things to stop) makes you more worthy of hatred than murdering dogs in cold blood. Also, being a good looking guy that happens to be a pretty good football player with a supermodel wife (Brady) means that you should be more hated than a guy who forcibly had sexual relations with an underage drunk girl in the bathroom of a dive bar while some of your friends stood guard at the door.

As far as Romo? Heck, I had totally forgotten about him. Seriously, what did he do to garner so much hatred other than play quarterback for the Cowboys and date smokin' hot country music stars? More importantly, how the heck is Jay Cutler not in this poll somewhere? Is there anyone outside of Chicago that likes that guy?

Who says America's priorities aren't completely out of order, huh?

Seriously, whoever was questioned for this poll needs to get a serious grip on reality.

Eh, it's a 'moment in time' snapshot

Favre’s star power has been fading for a couple years with the retirement waffling, the Sterger thing, the massuese thing, etc.

Vick has been on his reclamation project and rehabilitation tour for a year now, and Americans are a forgiving lot. A lot of those things are farther in the rear view mirror than Favre’s antice, and while I don’t think there’s a moral equivalent there, there is a what’s more recent factor.

Once Favre and the Packers kiss and make up and they retire his jersey, he’ll be awesome again…and everyone will forget he ever played for us.

the massuese thing?

please. did you read the complaint. the one sueing states in the complaint she had no contact with favre. I’m sure deadspin pulled out all the stops to find dirt since the beginning of the js story. and what did they come up with? after 4 mo. they found 3 emails. but lets throw the man in jail and throw away the key.

by FlFan on Feb 2, 2011 8:38 AM CST up reply actions

Agreed

I suspect it was the waffling about the retiring/unretiring thing, him being a petulant child when the Packers said “uh, no, you retired and we’re holding you at your word”, and then his determination to play for a divisional rival of the Packers just so he could try to stick it to them.

The Sterger thing, the masseuse issues, the texting… that just confirmed what a whole lot of people already thought at that point.

Also, he's got no base left.

Vick has Philly fans, Roethlisberger has Steeler fans, but what large block of fans would deliberately steer away from Favre as “most hated” or (depending on how the poll was structured) give him a positive rating? Vikings fans won’t defend him. Packer fans won’t defend him. Jets fans won’t defend him. What you’re left with is the group of people wandering the NFL wilderness, i.e., Favre fans, who might also happen to be Packer or Viking fans, or neither, but they’re a shrinking group.

Then there’s the fact that his d-bag moment was relatively recent compared to Vick or even Roethlisberger, or more accurately, the story broke more recently.

Not saying that makes it right or fair, but it’s not really surprising.

Also, I think you’re right about the “he’ll be awesome again” prediction. And I’ll be the bizarro R4F at that point. All the other Packer fans will be cheering and I’ll be muttering “yeah, but, he turned out to be a dick, remember?”

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Feb 2, 2011 8:37 PM CST up reply actions

Interesting

I can understand how Favre wouldn’t be very popular with certain groups of people (i.e. Packers fans, sideline hostesses, masseuses, wives, men who have wives, etc.). That said, how is he more hated than Vick and Roethlisberger?!!! I don’t get it. I really don’t. There’s immature, egocentric, philandering, and general bad taste, but none of those hold a candle to sociopathic.

If the question were who would you least like to have as a neighbor, I bet Vick and Roethlisberger beat out Favre hands down.

the media influences perception than anything else. they had a field day with the JS story. why let the facts get in the way of high ratings. it’s pathetic what the press has become. guess its more noble to be a gold digger and extortionist in the eyes of the press.

guess the fact

that the nfl found no “forensic evidence” to tie him to the photos doesn’t matter to who ever voted in this poll.

by FlFan on Feb 2, 2011 8:29 AM CST reply actions

how hated could he be?

his jersey is still #12 in sales in the nfl for 2010. it slipped some but that’s more due to the kind of year the vikings had than anything else.

by FlFan on Feb 2, 2011 8:48 AM CST reply actions

good point

If they did a poll of the most loved player in the NFL, Favre would probably be high on that list as well. No matter what the question is, if they are asking respondents to name NFL players they will name the highest profile players. That’s why all of the players named in the most hated are QBs. The highest profile players will always be QBs who make the news.

I doubt seriously that this poll wasn’t either inaccurate or outright faked. People get annoyed by Favre, but no one hates the guy.

Some Jackass at PFT

did a thing about how Favre offered Aaron Rodgers no advise for the SB…..lol
They all need Favre in the spotlight or they have nothing!
I thought about jumping in with the E mail to Ed Werder at ESPN from 1-17-11
where Favre said he thought the Packers would win it all and Rodgers was the best
QB in the playoffs but I would have followed it with how Rodgers Obviously learned
his trade very well from watching Favre so I let it be.

by kdog69 on Feb 2, 2011 11:13 AM CST reply actions

PFT are a bunch of idiots. there is absolutely no way

packer management would allow Rodgers to call brett for anything. even if he wanted to which I doubt, TT would never have allowed it. the packers have desperately tried to have Rodgers replace favre to justify getting rid of him. They’ve gone out of their way to take as many shots at him as they are able. even after murphy’s “we’ll welcome him back” speech, the shots continue. No way they want brett involved in anything Rodgers related.

by FlFan on Feb 2, 2011 12:11 PM CST up reply actions

I just can't picture Rodgers asking for Favre's advice...

…or calling him for that matter. Why would he? He’s endured a lot as a result of Favre, and now the student is the master.

by kcskol on Feb 2, 2011 12:37 PM CST up reply actions

the student is the master?

get a grip. he’s had a couple of good years after walking into a talented team that went to the nfc championship game. when rodgers can win with a team without a lot of talent, can come from behind at the end of games and win, and bring a franchise back from the abyss then we’ll talk.

by FlFan on Feb 2, 2011 12:46 PM CST up reply actions

bring a team back from the abyss?

with no talent? The people who get top billing for bringing the team back to prominence are Mike Holmgren and Ron Wolf. Favre was what I would call an “important ingredient.”

Rodgers has done what very few QBs have done in the past: successfully follow a great QB. He’s had three good years. This year, he’s had success with virtually no running game. I know there are Vikings fans and Favre fans that wanted him to fail, but it just isn’t happening folks. Three years of consistently good play is not an anomaly. As long as Rodgers can stay healthy, he is going to be a force in the league for years to come.

by Ben T on Feb 2, 2011 1:39 PM CST up reply actions

Okay.

But I don’t get the sense that there’s much Rodgers is going to be able to do to make you happy.

I heard Troy Aikman say during one of his telecasts recently that if a GM could pick any QB in the league to be his team’s QB, they’d choose Rodgers. Obviously Rodgers age figures into that, but so does his obvious talent. Green Bay has a very good defense. Rodgers makes Green Bay’s offense very good too.

by kcskol on Feb 2, 2011 2:12 PM CST up reply actions

let it go

Perhaps this most hated poll is part serious part fun………..but you people really need to let go of this Michael Vick “murdering dogs in cold blood” disparage. I happen to believe in second chances because GOD believes in second chances. He has forgiven Michael Vick and commanded that we do as well or else our own trespasses will NOT be forgiven either. Frankly, I don’t want to have that hanging over me when that day comes. This commentary is coming from a RABID (no pun intended) dog lover! If someone like me can forgive him………….anyone can. As for Bret Favre being the most hated, the media is just as culpable for the non stop stories surrounding his every move. Because of the incessant media, Favre had a bullseye on him whether deserved or not.

Redemption

Here’s a good book for those that want to know what exactly it is that they are forgiving Vick for having done: The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick’s Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption by Jim Gorant.

by kcskol on Feb 2, 2011 11:57 AM CST reply actions

Gotta love the NFL

One of the few places you can “redeem” yourself by having a GOOD season…
Hes paid his due, hes a better man, hes making a better life…WOW AWESOME! Those he left in his tracks, those he hurt, abused, or murdered will feel SO much better knowing hes a changed man!
That can apply to both Roth and Vick.
Sorry, but if Favre had had a season this year, like he did last year, noone would of given a rats butt about his camera skills….
Brady isnt about the super model as much as it is he left his pregnant girlfriend for a super model, thats a chick thing for hatred there.
Romo, hes a dork lol, hes fun to hate :)

Sorry, but having the gift of completing a pass does not make you a better/changed man.

by ArkViking on Feb 2, 2011 12:56 PM CST reply actions

There is a lot of Favre hate out there.

When I’m roaming around the series of tubes called the Internet, I’m amazed at the amount of hate there is for the man. I don’t quite understand it. Everyone talks like he should have retired in 2007, but 2009 was one of the best years in his career.

Does your hypocrisy know no end?

You say people hate Favre way too much for sexually harassing a female. You say people don’t hate Ben Roethlisberger nearly enough for…sexually harassing a female. Now I don’t think it’s too much of an assumption to say that Ben’s actions were worse but we really don’t know what either situation actually entailed, particularly Ben’s. I also think you’re way off-base in thinking that the Sterger debacle is the main reason that Brett’s number one on this list. The main reason to me that he would appear at the top of a list like this is merely the INSANE amount of media coverage on him even now that he’s completely retired

by Donald Driver on Feb 2, 2011 10:34 PM CST reply actions

I agree, I hate favre because I don’t understand why he wins so many of his games when it’s the 4th qurter, and 2 minits left. Im not complaining or anything but why can’t he have a good game in the 1st, 2nd, or, 3rd qurter. You would think it would be the hardest time to win when the game has 2 minits left!
