Newton strikes again

Cecil Newton, that is.  According to this article from Scout.com, Cecil Newton has let the cat out of the bag that the Vikings, along with 5 other teams, have scheduled private workouts/visits for his son Cam.  Apparently while visiting with NFL.com's Gil Brandt at Auburn's proday, Cecil indicatated that the Vikings, along with the Panthers, BillsRedskins, Titans, Dolphins(and possibly Cleveland and Cinnicinati) have all scheduled workout/visits with Cam.

In truth it's no big secret that the Vikings will be looking to improve their QB situation, one way or another.  However, this "revelation" certainly deflates any hopes the Vikings may have had in keeping their draft strategy in round one a secret.  Typically these type of private workouts aren't leaked until after the draft.

To say that Cecil Newton is a "controversial" character would be putting it mildly, however I wonder what effect his influence will have on Cam as a pro? Afterall, it was his father who picked out Blinn Junior College for his son to attend following his exodus from the University of Florida.  Cecil also notoriously tried to pimp Cam out the highest bidder after serving his one year hiatus from Div I football.  Newton the elder also ignored the NCAA's request to refrain from attending the BCS National Championship game, another potential sign of his unwaivering desire to be close to his son, even if it's not in his son's best interest.
