You're probably thinking to yourself 'Ted, you're a day late and a dollar short on this', and you'd be right. Sort of.
I was on vacation when my phone started blowing UP about Adrian Peterson and his 'slavery' comment. I didn't really think about because I was on vacation, and it was a bitchin' time, and football was the last thing on my mind.
But somebody needs to say something about this.
SInce I just checked the front page again to make sure I wasn't being redundant, I'll do it.
Seriously, Adrian...What the HELL were you thinking?
There are a lot of ways you can characterize the ongoing labor dispute between the players and the owners:
Billionaires vs. Millionaires
Godzilla vs. Megatron
Kramer vs. Kramer
Forrest vs. Bubba
But it is not, in any way, shape or form, anything remotely close to Southern Cotton Plantation Owners pitted against slaves that were considered nothing more than property, and as disposable as a wagon.
I love Adrian Peterson. I think he's a humble man in an age where that is a rare commodity, he is a ferocious competitor that can carry the team on his back when he needs to, and he is on his way to becoming the best back in NFL history.
But this was just ignorant as it was offensive.
It's difficult to find sympathy for players or owners in this, especially when you consider that they can't come to a mutual agreement on how to divide up a $9 billion pie.
Nine billion goddamn dollars, and they can't figure it out. Which means we the fans...remember us, the good people that gave you that $9 billion dollars to split up?...get left holding the bag.
I get that he has a strong point of view on the labor negotiations, and that's fair. I think he has some legitimate points to be made in why they should give up more money to the owners when it's the players that are the ones responsible for all that money coming in in the first place.
But please, Adrian, whatever you do, don't try and engender sympathy for you and your multi million dollar bank account by trying to tell me that you're enslaved.
It's embarrassing to you and uncomfortable for me.
Oh, PS: I'm still taking email questions. Shoot me a line at tglover47d@gmail.com, and we'll go over the best ones at least once a week, if there's enough emails to respond to.
