Arrowheadpride Mock Draft 2011

Last year in our 2 round draft I selected Maurkice Pouncey, and Sean Lee. Maurkice Pouncey was selected 18th overall by the Pittsburg Steelers and proceeded to have a Pro Bowl year. I'm not sure if this was why the Vikings decided to trade back with the Lions.  Sean Lee was picked up right before the Viking's pick with Dallas's pick at #55. He did have some nagging injuries in the offseason limiting his play. Towards the end of the season he came on strong as he intercepted Peyton Manning twice... one of which was for a touchdown.

No trades or FA's will be used in the mock draft. More after the jump... and I will be selecting this upcoming  Monday.

Star-divide

To recap the official 2010 NFL draft... the Vikings selected:

Round 2 Cris Cook CB

Round 2 Toby Gearhart RB

Round 4 Everson Griffen DE

Round 5 Chris DeGeare OT

Round 5 Nathan Triplett LB

Round 6 Joe Webb QB

Round 7 Mickey Shuler Jr TE

Round 7 Ryan D'Imperio LB

2010 offseason signed K Rhys Lloyd, DE Mike Montgomery and CB Lito Sheppard. Re-signed DT Jimmy Kennedy, WR Greg Lewis and CB Benny Sapp.

Biggest losses from my eyes were Chester Taylor (replaced with Gearhart), and Brett Farve (big ...hole).

I really didn't get a great chance to see these new additions play in 2011. How do you all feel about there contributions in 2010, and the possibility in the future. What is everybody's perceived positions of need? If I can't get an elite QB in the 1st what about a OT? Since Sidney Rice isn't under contract what is the opinions of taking a WR in the 1st (I'm thinking possible 2nd round if Locker isn't there)?

Thanks for all suggestions

What a waste...

I’d be just dumbfounded if we some how go WR in the 1st. The two solid 1st round WR’s are top 10 picks. Any one else at 12 is a huge reach… We gotta hope for the best with Sidney, and pray he’s wearing viking purple next year.

Draft a QB! Please God!

You never know with these mocks...

Jones or Greene could possibly drop to the 12 pick. I guess the question should have been if available whats your opinion on Jones or Greene at #12 (as it would seem to be BPA).

Go Chiefs!!!!

Lets see

Cook did alright. Looked good in camp but was injured often in the season.
Gerhart did alright. Good backup if he can stop fumbling at a high rate
Griffen still considered to have potential. Kind of a problem child still
Degeare impressed some people in camp but during the season as a fill in he was overpowered
Webb is the definition of an athlete. Will be very useful on the team either as the QB or WR.
Schuler did pretty well for being a low pick.
Other guys i’m not to certain about.

Positions of need are most likely QB, S, O-line, maybe WR and DL.
If Rice leaves, then WR is a need and one of the 2 top WR would be great if they fell to the vikes. OT might be a good pick, though I think the bigger need is C/G. I think for QB, if gabbert and newton are not there, then the vikes have to wait till the second round to get a good value guy.
For the mock, if both QB, WR, and CB are gone, I guess you have to go OT or DE. tough place to be.

Thanks... Rec'd.

So many different positions of need could drop at this position…. its a hard one to predict whom would be there. This post gives me something to go off of for a good writeup.

Go Chiefs!!!!

...and Julio Jones just was picked.

I’m thinking Tyron Smith is going to end up being the pick.

you go BPA

If Bowers falls to 12, take him.
If the Prince is there at 12, take him.
If Gabbert is there at 12, run to the podium.

Julio Jones is the tough one. If he is there at 12 (very likely, IMO) I would have to think real hard about taking him. Perhaps trade spots with St. Louis if they give us a 3rd round pick?

I guess BPA should work

The more I think about it, any position on the vikes could be improved EXCEPT RB. BPA would improve any position, just hope it ends up being in the biggest needs.

So would you say...

Bowers, Prince, Then Gabbert are the Best Players available in that order? or ranked as a combination of BPA and need? I would think Prince would be BPA and need… as it would give you shut down corners. Especially when facing Cutler, Stafford, and Rodgers twice a year.

A safety would probably be more benefitial, but lets face it the safeties this year are slim. 3rd round might be good for a safety. As a Chiefs fan I love the Eric Berry pick(even if it was a #5 pick)… yet I wasn’t enthusiastic about it at first.

Go Chiefs!!!!

I guess I listed them in terms of likeliness of them actually being there at 12

It seems as though Bowers has lost some steam lately and may fall out of the top 10 especially if Gabbert, Newton, Peterson and Amukamara are taken early.

But if I were to rank them in order of what the Vikings need for 2011 I would go Gabbert, Prince, Bowers.

Gotcha... makes sense.

Gabbert is already off the board. I don’t agree with him going #1 overall but it is what it is in this draft.

Go Chiefs!!!!
