It's been a little slow around here. We're all in limbo until a new CBA is signed, and while the draft discussions have been excellent, it's hard to tell what Frazier and Spielman are going to do. So I'm just doing a poll on who you think the greatest QB of all time is. This may have been done before - I'm not sure. I've been really wanting to do a story - two actually - that go something like this - 1. Do NFL players have the responsibility to be role models? With the Jolly thing, Roethlisberger, M Vick, actually we could write a pretty long list here, Pac-Man etc. Are these people any different from the rest of society? Or are they scrutinized more because of being in the spotlight? (I wouldn't mind if someone ran with this really as I think it could be very interesting.) And the second idea pertained to a players character. Should a GM weigh a persons character when deciding to try to get a guy on the team? I mean really, unless the player has actually been busted, character issues are often times mere speculation - maybe true, maybe not. Anyway on with the poll.
Who is the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL?
51%
Joe Montana - Cool Joe. Notre Dame alumn. 4-0 in Super Bowl appearances. Not to shabby. (32 votes)
1%
Steve Young - MVP of SB XXIX and holder of six NFL passing titles. (1 vote)
4%
John Elway - Five time SB participant (winning the last two) and current executive vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos (3 votes)
4%
Dan Marino - one of the most prolific quarterbacks in league history, led his team to the playoffs 10 times spanning a 17 year career. I've heard that he still has knees. (3 votes)
0%
Terry Bradshaw - Another HOFer who led the Steelers to SB wins in 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979. Currently a FOX NFL analyst, he was once married to JoJo Starbuck, who apparently was a hellova skater. (0 votes)
0%
Troy Aikman - the No. 1 overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, Aikman led his team to 3 Super Bowl victories, and was the Super Bowl XXVII MVP. He currently works for Fox I think. (0 votes)
1%
Tom Brady - drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady has won three of four Super Bowls, holds the NFL record for most TD passes in a season, and is married to supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who tells him how to wear his hair. (1 vote)
12%
Peyton Manning - First overall pick in 1998, and holder of 4 NFL MVP awards. A former Tennesse Volunteer, Payton comes from an all football family (his mother quarterbacks the Toronto Argonauts). Payton hold pretty much every Colts offensive record (8 votes)
1%
Johnny Unitas - "The Golden Arm". I really don't know a great deal about him but his middle name was Constantine, a middle name he shared with Marino . hmmmmm (1 vote)
19%
Brett Favre - Favre was the first NFL player to win three consecutive AP MVP awards. I'm pretty sure he won a SB at some point, and he did give us Vikings a heck of a ride in 2009. (12 votes)
0%
Brian Sipe - Not a valid entry but I was a fan of his in the day. (0 votes)
1%
Other - Please, as always, feel free to explain (1 vote)
62 votes total
