Brian Robison Inks Three-Year Deal With Minnesota
Well, we have one less free agency problem to worry about.
Per Adam Caplan of Fox Sports, defensive end Brian Robison has signed a three-year deal with the Vikings worth $14 million. $6.5 million of that will come in the form of a signing bonus.
Robison was drafted by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the fourth round (number 102 overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.
In his four years with the Vikings, Robison has registered 13.5 sacks, as well as forced three fumbles and recovered two others.
With Ray Edwards almost certainly gone at one defensive end slot, Robison could be set to make the jump into a starting role. His competition at the spot right now is Everson Griffen, who has had his off-the-field difficulties, but who the Vikings seem to like a great deal.
Congratulations to Brian Robison on his new found financial security. He's been great to have on the team thus far, and will continue to be so in the future.

Good news.
Glad to see that at least some of the Vikings’ roster security issues are being resolved.
Oh, and PS- you know, some of us are trying to write a story on breaking news here and don’t appreciate constantly being one-upped. Just sayin’.
Hail the Minnesota Vikings, ye mortals.
All other NFL fans are heretics.
Heh heh heh
Welcome to the fast paced world of Vikings blogdom.

I am this close
to writing a follow-up to your Charlie Sheen story, wherein we take Moammar Qadafi as our replacement for Ben Leber.

I originally had Qaddaffi calling Sheen at the end of mine
but I took it out. But he will be a character at some point

No way.
I’m one upping you this time.

i always appreciated Robison more than edwards
he as a Jared-like motor, and with the right training i think he could be a fantastic pass rusher. My only hang up is his run stopping ability.
So basically
JA V2.0

Great News.
This pretty much guarantees the first round pick will be spent on a DT (not likely) or QB.
I love this signing.
I always thought Robison was better than Edwards at rushing the passer, but his run-stopping ability is a little more suspect. Will be interesting to see how he does.
Also, he was used fairly often as a DT during the season, so this does not necessarily mean he has locked down that DE spot. Could still be a rotational guy with a hefty contract.
He might not be much of a run "stuffer"
But he does a pretty scrappy job. He’s fairly elusive so I like him on the edge
Glad they signed Robison
but I don’t understand the thought process that he’s better than Ray Edwards. Edwards is a much better run stopper, and Robison strikes me as a guy that would be exposed if he was an every down kind of guy.
Robison is a super sub, but I think he would be a below average starter. Am I the only one that feels this way?

I don't think BRob has had a fair chance to prove himself
He almost plays exclusively on “passing downs.” He might have the green light to pin his ears back and go after the QB when he’s in there for all we know.
Whatever the case is, we’ll find out…eventually.

Edwards thinks he's better than he is
Edwards is a decent starter, but he was also playing next to 3 pro bowlers. He disappears a lot and also seems to have a giant ego. Robison seems to be more of a high energy athlete vs Edwards being a physical player. I don’t think either one is a pro bowler, but depending on how much Edwards signs for I don’t think he would be worth the extra money.
+1
My thoughts exactly on Edwards. He has improved over the years at the side of JA and the Williams Wall, so now he thinks he is also a superstar. He is a good DE, but not amongst the best. I would respect him more at this point if he resigned with the team and continued to improve as the line begins to change (i.e. with the abscence of Phat Pat).
I would personally love to see us pick up a superstar DE and use Robi as a top-notch backup. Pressure on the opposing QB is an ultimate game-changer. With a lot of pressure from the left side, they wouldn’t be able to make their game plan mostly about studying and stopping JA, leaving him to return to his QB-calf-roping ways in full swing.
I don't see Robinson being better than Edwards right now
but then there is a reason Edwards was playing in front of him. I am actually kinda shocked at the money they spent on him. I havn’t really seen anything he’s done so far that maps him into the five million dollar a year bracket.
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
I disagree completely
Ray Edwards has not done much considering who he has been playing with. He constantly gets a 1 on 1 match up and consistently does not impress.

Even with the big boy signing bonus
It’s still cheaper to sign Robison and not pay Ray what he is expecting. I think the Vikings realize they need to sign A LOT of players so they might have to take a hit at some positions.
I think we've seen Ray's ceiling too
I think Robison can improve w/ more reps. Or maybe they just think that much of Griffen or Awasome
Allen
K-Will
Guion
Robison
I think it’s solid but definitely could use some help

love it, love it, love it
congrats to Brian — he hasn’t gotten enough credit, and i hope he plays a bigger role this coming season.
Don't forget Robison played great when he did start for Edwards
I think we’ll see a rotation of him and Griffen, with Robison starting.
It will come out tomorrow that he's actually a woman.

Don't mind the signing but
I guess we aren’t drafting a DE. Anybody else think this signing was a little overpriced?
